Darkmoon Faire Guide for World of Warcraft
Table of Contents
The Darkmoon Faire is a mysterious, carnival-themed event in World of Warcraft that happens once a month. Learn everything there is about the Darkmoon Faire!
Overview
The Darkmoon Faire is a spooky event held once every month, in which you can participate by partaking in minigames like a real carnival. There are a lot of rewards tied to the Darkmoon Faire event!
Date and Timeline
The Darkmoon Faire event happens every month, on the first week of the month. The Darkmoon Faire will open for business on the first Sunday of the month, and stay up for that entire week.
Currency
The currency of the Darkmoon Faire is the
Darkmoon Prize Ticket. These tickets are earned
by participating in activities within the Faire, primarily through mini-games, though the faire
provides other ways to get them.
If you are lucky, you can also buy
Darkmoon Ticket Fanny Pack from the Black Market
Auction House. This item contains between 250 to 480 Darkmoon Prize Tickets.
Every month, you will be able to earn a maximum of 287 Darkmoon Prize Tickets per character during a Darkmoon Fair event. As Darkmoon Prize Tickets are Warbound, you can use multiple alts to grind for more tickets if going for certain rewards.
Outside of the main Darkmoon Faire event, you can also buy
Darkmoon Ticket Fanny Pack from
the Black Market Auction House. This item contains between 250 to 480 Darkmoon Prize Tickets.
Location
The Darkmoon Faire is located on Darkmoon Island, a special zone dedicated to the Darkmoon Faire. There are two main ways of getting to the Faire. The first way is by physically going to their main portal locations and teleporting there - One is located just south of Goldshire in Elwynn Forest, and the other is southwest of, Thunder Bluff in Mulgore.
The second way is by interacting with Darkmoon Faire Mystic Mages (Alliance/Horde). These NPCs are located
in most capital cities, and will teleport you to your faction's Darkmoon Faire portal area for a
measly 30
.
Below, we have a map for all relevant NPCs in the Faire:
Rewards
The Darkmoon Faire offers a variety of rewards, from temporary buffs, profession skill-ups to
exotic pets and mounts. Most of these rewards are purchased with
Darkmoon Prize Tickets.
+10% Reputation and Experience Buff
The Darkmoon Carousel or the Darkmoon Rollercoaster will grant you
WHEE! after riding
them for about 30 seconds. This buff increases your experience and reputation gains by 10% for 1
hour, however, it does not persist through death. This buff stacks with other experience and
reputation buffs.
As of Patch 12.0, the
WHEE! does not work with Midnight expansion Reputations.
To ride the carousel and roller coaster, you need a
Darkmoon Ride Ticket. You can find
these tickets inside a
Ride Ticket Book, which you can buy from the NPC at the attraction's
entrance.
A similar buff is given by consuming a
Darkmoon Top Hat, which you can buy for 10
from Gelvas Grimegate. These can be used to obtain
the buff without needing to travel all the way to the Faire, but you can only use them while the
Darkmoon Faire is in town.
Profession Skill-Ups
Every month, you can complete profession-related quests in the Darkmoon Faire. Each of these
quests rewards 2 skill points in the corresponding profession, 3 Profession Knowledge for the most
recent expansion, 1
Darkmoon Game Token, 3-4
Darkmoon Prize Tickets, and 250
reputation with the Darkmoon Faire. This is a great way of obtaining skill-ups for a profession,
especially early on in a new expansion.
You can complete a total of 5 Profession Quests every month: 2 for your Primary professions, and 3 for the secondary professions of Cooking, Fishing and Archaeology. You can complete these quests even if your assigned Profession is maxed out.
Below is the list of profession skill-up quests:
- Gathering Professions

Inky Black Potion
One of the more famous features of the Darkmoon Faire is the
Inky Black Potion. This potion
sold by Rona Greenteeth by a minimal amount of gold forces your game to look like as if its
always Midnight.
The effect from the Inky Black Potion is darker than the normal night time in the game, and its ambience change may also make it easier to see certain mechanics.
Sayge's Buffs
Sayge is a Darkmoon Faire NPC who provides you with various temporary buffs. These buffs can be helpful when leveling up a character, especially since they do not require anything else than going to the Darkmoon Faire and talking to Sayge. These buffs do have limited usefulness however, as they go away when going inside any kind of instanced content.
At first, he offers you 4 different conversation choices that we numbered from 1 to 4 in descending order. Whatever conversation choice you make, you will have to make a second choice between 3 possibilities that we numbered from 1 to 3 in descending order. After choosing this second possibility, you will be granted a buff.
Below, we have listed the various buffs he gives and the conversation choices you must make to obtain them. Note that the same conversation choices will always lead to the same buff.
Sayge's Dark Fortune of Agility: 3–3
Sayge's Dark Fortune of Armor: 1–3 or 4–3
Sayge's Dark Fortune of Damage: 1–1
Sayge's Dark Fortune of Intelligence: 2–2 or 4–1

Cauldron of Rock and Blight Boar Concerts
Every hour, on the half-hour, the Blight Boar will appear in Cauldron Rock for a concert. Immediately, the Death Metal Knight will appear to disrupt the concert. Killing him gives you a chance to loot several things:
Chain-Linked Cage Helm;
Leather-Lined Cage Helm;
Lightly-Padded Cage Helm;
Steel-Reinforced Cage Helm;
Blight Boar Microphone;
Necromedes, the Death Resonator;- as well as any of the items sold by Henry Gust, outside the cave.
During the fight, you will get a score, tracked by the buff
Casual Fan. As you progress
during the encounter, your score will increase by damaging ghouls and killing the Death Metal Knight,
and decrease if you hit walls of banshees that spawn during the encounter.
The buff will become
Serious Fan at 75+ points, then
Hardcore Fan at 150+ points,
and finally
Number One Fan at 225+ points.
Testing Your Strength
Every month you get a chance to test your strength by completing the Test Your Strength quest given to you by Kerri Hicks.
Completing this quest requires you to kill 250 creatures that offer experience or honor while
having the
Darkmoon Adventurer's Guide in your bag. It rewards 10
Darkmoon Prize Tickets
and 250 reputation with the Darkmoon Faire.
Darkmoon Faire Mini Games
Most of the Darkmoon Faire rewards are bought with
Darkmoon Prize Tickets. The most
efficient way to collect these tickets is to do the daily quests associated with each of the mini-games
currentlyavailable at the Darkmoon Faire.
Each daily quest rewards 1 ticket and 250 reputation with the Darkmoon Faire.
Note that you can do the mini-games over and over again, as long as you have
Darkmoon Game Token to pay the entry fee. Each mini-game requires 1
Darkmoon Game Token
to play. You can buy these from Zina Sharpworth at the entrance, Sazz Coincatcher
further down to the right, and Trixi Sharpworth next to the Deathmatch Arena. The prices are
the following:
Pouch o' Tokens: 5 tokens for 60
.
Sack o' Tokens: 20 tokens for 1
and 92
.
You can also obtain these tokens by doing the profession skill-up quests.
Whack-a-Gnoll
The Whack-a-Gnoll game is associated with the It's Hammer Time daily quest. In the ring, there
are 9 barrels, out of which three types of creatures randomly appear. Before they disappear, you
must smack them with a hammer. The game will present you with 3 possible types of creatures:
- Smacking a Doll stuns you for a few seconds and awards 0 points.
- Smacking a Gnoll awards 1 point.
- Smacking a Hogger Gnoll awards 3 points.
30 points are needed to complete the daily quest.
The Darkmoon Cannon
The Darkmoon Cannon game is associated with the The Humanoid Cannonball daily quest. You need
to climb into a giant cannon, that will fire you off the ground. Then, you need to initiate the
fall. The objective is to land in a circle off the Darkmoon Faire docks:
- Landing outside the circle stuns you for a few seconds and awards 0 points.
- Landing inside the circle awards 1 point.
- Landing close to the center awards 3 points.
- Landing precisely in the center awards 5 points and the
Blastenheimer Bullseye
achievement).
The daily quest requires you to obtain 5 points, and you need precise timing to make it inside the circle. Landing exactly in the middle of the circle is very difficult. After an attempt, you can talk to Teleportologist Fozlebub next to the circle to get back to the cannon) and try again.
Shooting Gallery
The Shooting Gallery game is associated with the He Shoots, He Scores! daily quest. In the
stand, there are three targets. One gets marked with a green arrow every few seconds, and you need
to fire at it by facing it and pressing the fire button.
The daily quest requires you to hit 25 targets. When a target is marked with an arrow, you only have time to hit it twice before the mark moves to another target. Then, you must wait a few seconds before another target is marked. When no target is marked, you cannot hit anything.
Tonk Challenge
The Tonk Challenge game is associated with the Tonk Commander daily quest. You need to hit
targets in the ring by making your tank face them before pressing the fire button. The objective of
the daily quest is to hit 30 targets, and completing it will often require you to play the game
several times.
Enemy tanks also show up in the ring. They can be hit in the same way you hit targets. When facing an enemy tank and a target, you will randomly hit one of them. If the enemy tank is hit, it will most likely start attacking you. You can start over if your tank gets destroyed; you will not reset your kill count.
Note that when targeted by an enemy tank, you use your second ability. This will make your tank sprint for a few seconds, making the enemy tank lose sight of you.
Firebird's Challenge
The Firebird's Challenge is associated with the Firebird's Challenge daily quest. Starting
the game gives you the
Wings of Flame buff, which allows you to fly for 10
seconds. Passing through a fiery ring refreshes your buff. The objective of the daily quest is to
pass through 15 fiery rings. You can complete this quest through multiple playthroughs.
Ring Toss
The Ring Toss game is associated with the Target: Turtle daily quest. The objective of the
daily quest is to land 3 rings on the Darkmoon Turtle that walks inside the arena. To toss a ring,
target the turtle with the mouse, and left-click.
Even if you are perfectly aimed at the turtle, there is no guarantee that the ring will land there, as the landing location of the rings is somewhat random. One way to complete the daily quest is to spam rings when the turtle stops moving, hoping to have 3 of them land properly.
Races
You can find the races on both sides of the pier at the faire: the Real Race on the right and the Real Big Race on the left.
- On the right side, Malle Earnhard first gives you Welcome to the Darkmoon Races, to introduce you to the Real Race. Then, you can complete the The Real Race to obtain your daily prize. You can do subsequent runs through Let's Keep Racing!, also offered by Malle.

Darkmoon Deathmatch Arena
The Darkmoon Deathmatch happens every 3 hours (00:00, 03:00, and so on) at the Deathmatch Ring, the large building located in the southwestern part of the faire.
The Deathmatch is a free for all event that lasts until someone manages to loot the chest in the center of the ring. The ring marks every player as hostile, even players in your own faction. Only players in your party will show up as friendly.
The cast for opening the chest is quite long - 8 seconds - and anyone can easily interrupt you.
To enter, click the gate of the Deathmatch Ring right behind Korgol Crushskull at the entrance of the building.
Looting the chest rewards you with a
Pit Fighter trinket. This item starts the
Pit Fighter quest. Turning it in gives you the follow-up Master Pit Fighter
quest, which requires looting 12 Pit Fighter trinkets. After completing this quest, you will be
rewarded with
Master Pit Fighter trinket.
Achievements
Winning the Darkmoon Deathmatch will reward you with the
Darkmoon Duelist achievement.

Darkmoon Artifacts
Thanks to your
Darkmoon Adventurer's Guide, you can loot artifacts you would not usually
see. There is a total of nine Darkmoon artifacts. Each can only be collected certain activities -
Dungeons, Battlegrounds or Raids. Each artifact starts a quest that you can turn in at the Darkmoon
Faire, and that rewards a number
Darkmoon Prize Tickets as well as 250 reputation with the
Darkmoon Faire:
- Each Darkmoon Dungeon artifact quest gives you 10
Darkmoon Prize Tickets, for a total
of 5 per month. - Each Darkmoon Battleground artifact quest gives you 5
Darkmoon Prize Tickets, for a
total of 15 per month. - The one Darkmoon Raid artifact quest gives you 15
Darkmoon Prize Tickets.
The Darkmoon Artifacts are not bound to anything, so you can trade them with other players, as well as sell them in the Auction House. The only limitation on these is that you can only turn them in once per Darkmoon Faire. You can turn these in with multiple characters, though.
The nine artifacts are:
- Dungeon Artifacts (randomly drop from mobs in dungeons of your level):
A Treatise on Strategy: Starts The Master Strategist.
Imbued Crystal: Starts A Curious Crystal.
Monstrous Egg: Starts An Exotic Egg.
Mysterious Grimoire: Starts An Intriguing Grimoire.
Ornate Weapon: Starts A Wondrous Weapon.
- Battleground Artifacts (randomly drop from dead enemies in battlegrounds):
Fallen Adventurer's Journal: Starts The Captured Journal.
Banner of the Fallen: Starts A Captured Banner.
Captured Insignia: Starts The Enemy's Insignia.
- Raid Artifact (randomly drops from bosses in raids of your level):
Soothsayer's Runes: starts Tools of Divination.
Reputation Grind
Every month, you can gain reputation with the Darkmoon Faire by doing activities in the Darkmoon Faire. We consider the following to be activities in the Darkmoon Faire:
- Mini-Games: 2,000 (8x250) reputation per day, so 14,000 per Darkmoon Faire.
- Profession Skill-ups: 1,500 (6x250) reputation per Darkmoon Faire.;
- Testing Your Strength: 250 reputation per Darkmoon Faire.
- Artifacts: 2,250 (9x250) reputation per Darkmoon Faire.
Note that the Darkmoon Faire starts at Midnight, Pacific time for North American servers, and Central European Time for European servers. If you manage to do a set of daily quests between then and the next daily quest reset, you can do them 8 times per Darkmoon Faire.
Finally, turning in decks of cards to obtain Darkmoon Card trinkets will always reward 350 reputation. Remember that grinding reputation this way will cost you quite a bit of Gold.
Darkmoon Faire Concert — Tauren Chieftains
Every hour, at the concert stage located next to the docks, people will be able to attend a
concert of the Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain band, the virtual alter ego of The
Tauren Chieftains. This is a reference to the band formed by former Blizzard employees,
including Mike Morhaime (former CEO) and Samwise Didier (former Art Director).
