General Information

Welcome to our Affliction Warlock DPS guide for World of Warcraft Legion 7.0.3. Here, you will learn everything you need to know about playing an Affliction Warlock in a raid environment and in Mythic+ dungeons.

About Our Author

This guide has been written by Furty who raids in Serenity, one of the top World of Warcraft guilds. He plays most classes at the highest level. You can follow him on Twitter and watch him play on Twitch.

1. Class Overview

Affliction Warlocks excel at sustaining high single-target and multiple-target damage. Most of your damage comes from the application of harmful damage over time effects (DoTs). This allows them to effectively cleave on targets that are spread around an area, something many specializations struggle with or are flat out unable to do. Just like the other Warlock specializations, Affliction Warlocks bring the Demonic Gateway Icon Demonic Gateway ability to the raid, which can be an invaluable mobility cooldown.

2. What Has Changed?

  • Unstable Affliction Icon Unstable Affliction is now your main Soul Shard dump.
  • Haunt Icon Haunt has been entirely reworked and is now a talent.
  • Drain Soul Icon Drain Soul is now a talent, and Drain Life Icon Drain Life is the main channelled filler.
  • Dark Soul has been removed.
  • Some of the warlock defensive power has been stripped away.
  • Many glyphs are no longer present within the game.
  • Many changes to the talent tree, including a variety of new abilities and passives.

3. Strengths

  • Strong AoE damage
  • Strong sustained multi-target cleave
  • Deals with spread targets well
  • Flexible talent options
  • Good mobility due to a plethora of instant cast spells

4. Weaknesses

  • Lengthy ramp up time on damage
  • Weak single target damage
  • Kit forces you to choose between single target and AoE, but cannot do both effectively with one talent setup
  • Weak damage on high priority targets
  • Weak target swapping

5. Viability in the Current Patch

Affliction is currently the best Warlock spec for Mythic+ dungeons, and the worst for raiding.
