Guide to Gear Reforging

Reforging is a new system added in during Cataclysm. This system allows you to convert 40% of one type of stat into another, allowing you to fine tune your gear to the exact stats you want and need.

You can only Reforge secondary stats; the only main stat you can reforge is Spirit. You can only choose a stat to reforge into that is not already present on the gear; so if the gear already has Hit Rating on it you can not reforge more Hit Rating onto the item.

Reforging is simple enough; head to the NPC for your faction shown below, insert your item into the Reforging menu slot, choose the state you want to remove 40% of, then choose the stat you want to add onto the item.

To help with the Reforging process as a whole, we recommend using the addon ReforgeLite Classic. This will automatically figure out the most optimal reforging for your current gear, helping you reach all important caps such as Hit Rating, while boosting your most important stats.

If you want to Reforge the item again or restore the original stats, simply pick the "restore" button at the bottom of the menu. You must restore the item first if you wish to reforge different stats.

Players can Reforge their gear by speaking with an Arcane Reforger NPC. You can only find these NPCs in faction-specific cities listed below.

The Alliance can only Reforge gear in Stormwind. Speak with any guard in the city, ask where you can reforge your gear, and head to the location shown to speak with Thaumaturge Rafir.

The Horde can only Reforge gear in Orgrimmar. Speak with any guard in the city, ask where you can reforge your gear, and head to the location shown to speak with Thaumaturge Altha.
