Chrono Odyssey Leveling Guide

All information on this page is from the Closed Beta Test version of Chrono Odyssey. Systems, numbers, and names may change. We will keep testing and update this guide as new information releases.

Leveling in Chrono Odyssey is truly open-ended and you can level however you want. There are endless mobs and bosses, solo and group dungeons, Trials, Labyrinths, open world farming and more. However, if you are looking for the fastest path, you will want to push Epic Main Quests until the hub opens and sends you to the major town. Then loop bounties from the Bounty board that overlap side content, craft key gear at level breakpoints, and clear Chrono Gates when your gear and skill kit is ready.

Starting your Journey

The goal is to farm enough materials as you make your way to the main settlement. There, you should unlock benches and get your food, tools, and gear in order.

  • Finish the tutorial: Final Hope, Temporal Rewind, Coast in Crisis.
  • Reach the first major city, buy basic gathering tools, and put any materials in your storage.
  • Process materials in town.
  • Cook a small stack of Hearty Pottage for Health Regen to help out.
3.

Level Bands and Breakpoints

These are practical gates where power spikes happen. Use crafts to skip the pain. Otherwise, the first Chrono Gate will be very hard. Most people cannot defeat the first Chrono Gate Boss before reaching level 5, as well as crafting the Tier 2 weapons and armor. Feel free to try them whenever you want.

  • Lv 1–4 (Tier 1): Rush hub, gather, process, learn combat dodging windows, hunt down bounties, etc.
  • Lv 5–14 (Tier 2): Craft a level 5 weapon and all your armor slots, enhance weapon just enough for Gate checks (+3 to +5 if possible, but do not enhance an item you will replace soon).
  • Lv 15 (Tier 3): Spend bounty coins on limited Tier 3 materials, craft a level 15 weapon and armor set, then clear the tougher Gates and dungeon.

Chrono Gates

Chrono Gates are considered the main quest chain in Chrono Odyssey. There are a group of quests known as "Epic Quests" which are considered the hardest quests and the main point of the game. Each Epic Quest has its own unique storyline, which introduces a new challenging boss to overcome.

Currently there are a total of four Chrono Gates you need to locate, enter, and defeat. After you kill the Gate boss, you can summon the boss to fight for you using the Chronotector, providing you with not only additional support in combat, but also some massive damage. Below is a link to our Chrono Gate Guide, where you can also find walkthroughs for each of the available bosses.

  • Gate 1 — Thousandfold Piercer: Suggested at level 5 once you craft gear.
  • Gate 2 — Earthbreaker: Clear after a bounty loop with Lv 5 crafts; rewards Isolation Movement.
  • Gate 3 — Primeval Capra: Possible before level 15 with skill; trivialized with Lv 15 crafts; rewards Temporal Resistance.
  • Gate 4 — Arsenalith: Only attempt when you are in level 15 gear and comfortable with your class.

Bounties as the XP Backbone

Bounties are your main source of experience and will carry you past level 10. The bounty system is a nice and simple way to level. You pick up a bounty from the board, go to the red circle on your map, and wait for the boss to spawn, kill, and take his head. The bounties themselves are all easy to do, even solo, as these places will generally have a lot of players.

In the Closed Beta Test, most of these were highly contested. However, the kills were shared, so as long as you tagged the bounty boss, you will get credit. Leveling is as simple as picking up ONE bounty at a time, teleporting to the nearest Bound Stone waypoint, killing the bounty, and then turn its head in for completion.

  • Pick up a bounty, located at the Bounty Board in the major town.
  • Open your map, head to the red circle and wait for the bounty boss to spawn.
  • Kill the boss, then loot its head.
  • Turn in the head to complete the bounty and collect your reward.

Side Content

Below are other ways to obtain experience and level. While it is suggested to focus solely on the Bounty Board, as this will take you to level 12-14, here are some side content you can do to get more experience while exploring the world.

  • Solo Dungeons and Group Dungeons: Gives moderate experience and can be cleared quickly.
  • Zone Quests and Side Quests: Many are available, but they each give very little experience.
  • Time Portals (Defector's Lighthouse): Jump in if it is on the way, unless in an hurry. Short instance, fast clear, easy boss, and free loot.
  • Labyrinths: Solo parkour puzzle ending in a boss. Grab key fragments along the path. Keep all the rewards.
  • Region World Bosses: Better in groups. Treat as opportunistic kills if you see other players around killing it.
  • Void Nexus: Tuned for parties, but soloable if you are well-geared; excellent XP from level 14 to 15. Drops vital crafting resources as well.
7.

Crafting Checkpoints for Power Spikes

Crafted gear outclasses random drops early in your gameplay. Stabilize with crafts at key levels, salvage the rest, and only enhance anything you want to keep.

  • Level 5: Craft your class weapons and as many armor pieces as you farm for. Always enhance weapon and salvage bad rolls to get some materials back.
  • Accessories: Target variants that fit your build (Crit, Haste, DoT, or Sustain).
  • Level 15: Spend bounty coins on Tier 3 materials! Craft full weapon and armor sets, then push Chrono Gates 3 to 4. Add in the end-game dungeon: Howling Pit.
  • Sockets and Gems: Use them when they roll, but do not chase sockets until at least Tier 3. Insert a decent gem if you have it, otherwise, skip it and save.
8.

Cheap Mount Unlocks

Skip buying the expensive stable horse with your precious gold. Do the quest instead!

  • Quest: Gone with the Wind (Santo's Discovery). You can start immediately, but if you wait until after Gate 2, you can stop time with your Chronotector, making this quest much easier.
  • If using your Chronotector, freeze time and then tame the target horse, then turn in to unlock the mount item.
  • If not using your Chronotector. Try to predict where the horse will stop running, be there and spam the tame keybind. After the taming timer starts, wait until it finishes or fails. You can still continue to tame, even if the horse runs away.

Early Leveling Route Summary

Stabilize early, stack activities, and craft at breakpoints. Score gets you in; the right rolls will help you win fights.

  • Reach Hub, obtain tools, and unlock lifeskills. Then craft level 5 weapon, armor, and cheap food.
  • Attempt Gate 1 around level 5 with crafted gear.
  • Run Bounties for the best XP farm. You can also stack Side Quests, Portals, and Labyrinths.
  • Attempt Gate 2 then complete the Mount quest.
  • Bank Bounty coins for Tier 3 materials. Once you hit level 15, craft a full set.
  • Once you are level 15, attempt Gate 3, Gate 4, and the end-game dungeon.
  • Alternatively, use Void Nexus for fast Level 14-15 XP if they are up.
