Second Chrono Gate in Chrono Odyssey
The Earthbreaker, the second Chrono Gate Boss in Chrono Odyssey, introduces complex battle mechanics and multi-phased combat. This guide covers everything you need to know in order to defeat the Earthbreaker, including gear recommendations, best practices, battle mechanics, consumables, and more.
How to Defeat Eathbreaker (Chrono Gate Boss #2)
The second Chrono Gate Boss (Earthbreaker) will be one of the first true boss battles that you encounter that actually has some battle mechanics and phases involved with it. Additionally, it will be one of the first opportunities you have to utilize the "Summon" ability on your Chronotector to help you take down a large opponent.
This guide will share everything you need to know in order to defeat Earthbreaker, including a deep-dive in level and gear recommendations, suggested consumables, battle mechanics and phases, and tips and tricks to succeed in this battle.
Level and Gear Recommendations
It is recommended to be at least level 10 before fighting Earthbreaker, allowing you to pick up your first class Mastery skill. Additionally, it is recommended to enchant your weapons to at least level 4, allowing you to pick up some additional damage output and an additional perk on each weapon.
Please note: You do not need to be level 10 or enchant your gear in order to defeat Earthbreaker, it will just make the battle a little bit easier if you find yourself having a difficult time.
You should ensure that you have a full set of level 5 gear before attempting this battle, and again, if you have the resources to do some Enchanting, it is highly suggested in order to maximize your damage output and survivability.
Consumables
When challenging the second Chrono Gate Boss, you will want to ensure you have your Health Potions slots maxed out - these will be your best friend in this battle.
If you have the time and seem to be struggling taking down this boss, then you may want to consider doing some additional cooking and alchemy to make the following consumables:
- Carnage Potion - Grants +3 to Strength, Dexterity, Intellect, and Wisdom for 30 minutes.
- Nectar of Fortification - Grants +1 to Strength, Dexterity, Intellect, and Wisdom for 30 minutes.
- Nectar of Agility - Grants +5% Movement Speed and +9 Max Stamina for 30 minutes.
- Warrior's Meatloaf - Increases Attack by 35 for 30 minutes.
- Hearty Pottage - Increases HP Recovery per Second by 6 for 30 minutes.
- Guardian's Grilled Fish - Increases Physical and Magic Defense by 25 for 30 minutes.
Each of these consumables listed above will last for a total of 30 minutes, which is more than enough time for you to complete this battle. Additionally, they will all stack on top of each other, providing your character with a large range of buffs, making this battle much, much easier.
Location
The second Chrono Gate is located in the southwestern portion of the map, and is indicated by a large, dark hole (just southwest of the Outcast Encampment). When you approach this area, you'll see a massive hole in the ground, where you'll eventually need to jump down into in order to be teleported to the second Chrono Gate. The icon on the left side of the image below indicated the exact location of this hole.
Battle Mechanics and Phases
When entering this battle, you will quickly notice that the environment you're in is similar to a circular arena, making it the perfect area to kite in case you get a bit too low on health. By kiting the enemy (running in a circular motion away from the boss without getting hit), you'll be able to not only passively regenerate your health, but also reduce your cooldown timers on your skills and Health Potions.
When it comes to the actual battle itself, the Thousandfold Piercer will have two primary attacks that you need to watch out for. The first is the most common attack, which is a slashing-like motion with his lightning spear. You will have about half of a second to react and dodge this attack from landing. As soon as you see him pull his spear back, it means the slashing-like attack is about to happen.
The next attack does not happen as often, but is much, much deadlier. This is his jump attack - where he jumps extremely high in the air, and lunges towards you regardless of where you are in the arena. You cannot "run" from this attack - instead, you will need to time the perfect dodge to prevent it from landing. This may take you a few times to get the timing down, but it is possible. If you are not in full level 5 gear, this attack will likely defeat you in one hit.
After following the steps above, you should have no problem defeating Thousandfold Piercer, which will then allow you to unlock him as a Summon option on your Chronotector once you speak with Petra at the Citadel. Be sure to "Activate" Thousandfold Piercer at the Citadel after you defeat him, as you will likely need this ability to support you in defeating the second Chrono Gate Boss.
Once you defeat Earthbreaker, you'll continue on to level and progress your character. Eventually, you'll come across the next Chrono Gate Boss (Primeval Capra), which uncovers new battle mechanics and an all-new challenge. If you need help defeating Primeval Capra, check out the guide below.
