How to Defeat Earthbreaker (Chrono Gate Boss #2)

The second Chrono Gate Boss (Earthbreaker) is one of the first true boss battles you encounter that actually has some battle mechanics and phases involved with it. Additionally, it will be one of the first opportunities you have to utilize the "Summon" ability on your Chronotector to help you take down a large opponent.

This guide will share everything you need to know to defeat Earthbreaker, including a deep-dive in level and gear recommendations, suggested consumables, battle mechanics and phases, as well as tips and tricks to succeed in this battle.

2.

Level and Gear Recommendations

It is recommended to be at least level 10 before fighting Earthbreaker, allowing you to pick up your first Class Mastery skill. Additionally, it is recommended to enchant your weapons to at least level 4, allowing you to pick up some additional damage output and an additional perk on each weapon.

Please note: You do not need to be level 10 nor enchant your gear to defeat Earthbreaker. However, these tips will just make the battle slightly easier if you find yourself having a difficult time.

3.

Consumables

When challenging the second Chrono Gate Boss, ensure you have your Health Potions slots maxed out — these will be your best friend in this battle.

If you have the time, or seem to be struggling with Earthbreaker, then consider doing some additional cooking and alchemy to make the following consumables:

  • Carnage Potion - Grants +3 to Strength, Dexterity, Intellect, and Wisdom for 30 minutes.
  • Nectar of Fortification - Grants +1 to Strength, Dexterity, Intellect, and Wisdom for 30 minutes.
  • Nectar of Agility - Grants +5% Movement Speed and +9 Max Stamina for 30 minutes.
  • Warrior's Meatloaf - Increases Attack by 35 for 30 minutes.
  • Hearty Pottage - Increases HP Recovery per Second by 6 for 30 minutes.
  • Guardian's Grilled Fish - Increases Physical and Magic Defense by 25 for 30 minutes.

Each of these consumables listed above will last for a total of 30 minutes, which is more than enough time for you to complete this battle. Additionally, they will all stack on top of each other, providing your character with a large range of buffs, making this battle much easier.

4.

Location

The second Chrono Gate is located in the south-western portion of the map, and is indicated by a large, dark hole (just southwest of the Outcast Encampment).

When you approach this area, you will see a massive hole in the ground. If you jump down, you will teleport to the second Chrono Gate. Check the image below to view the exact location of this hole.

Battle Mechanics and Phases

After jumping into the deep hole highlighted in the map above, you will find yourself at the end of a long, narrow hallway. Follow this hallway and you will eventually come across fire traps that will shoot fire out from each side of you. Don't worry — it looks worst than it actually is. Time your run and dodge through to take minimal damage.

As you continue down this hallway, you will begin to see large, red balls shooting out towards you. These are coming from Earthbreaker, which means you are close!

Dodge the red balls to the best of your ability, and try to stand directly underneath Earthbreaker. At this time, you will see a pop-up on your screen stating, "Activate the levers to cut off Earthbreaker's energy flow". On each side of Earthbreaker you will see a lever — but caution on when you actually activate each. Try to time your activation of each right after Earthbreaker launches an attack on you. Otherwise, getting hit will prevent you from successfully pulling the lever.

Once both levers are activated, you will see a pop-up stating, "The Earthbreaker has been temporarily neutralized!"

This is your signal to start attacking Earthbreaker and dish off as many abilities to take down its health bar as much as possible.

Continue this process and you will be able to defeat Earthbreaker with ease. Just be cautious of his attacks and dodge accordingly. Luckily, each of their attacks (like the stomp attack) have a minor charge to them, allowing you to determine the perfect time to dodge!

Once you defeat Earthbreaker, continue on to level and progress your character. Eventually, you will come across the next Chrono Gate Boss (Primeval Capra), which uncovers new battle mechanics and an all-new challenge. If you need help defeating Primeval Capra, check out the guide below.
