Third Chrono Gate in Chrono Odyssey
Primeval Capra, the third Chrono Gate Boss in Chrono Odyssey, is one of the most challenging and visually stunning fights in the game. This is known to be a difficult battle, as it includes multiple phases that can be a bit tricky to figure out early on. This guide covers everything you need to complete each phase and defeat the Primeval Capra, and includes gear suggestions, key consumables, battle mechanics, what to watch out for, best practices, and more.
How to Defeat Primeval Capra (Chrono Gate Boss #3)
The third Chrono Gate Boss is known as "Primeval Capra", and is visually one of the coolest Chrono Gate Bosses in the game. Be cautious though, his attacks are even cooler (and they hurt). Although this is only the third Chrono Gat Boss, many actually consider this battle to be even more difficult than the fourth Chrono Gate Boss (Arsenlaith).
This guide will share everything you need to know in order to defeat Primeval Capra, including a deep-dive in level and gear recommendations, suggested consumables, location, battle mechanics and phases, and tips and tricks to succeed in this battle.
Level and Gear Recommendations
Before challenging Arsenalith, it is recommended to be at least level 15, and to have a full set of level 15 gear. Although this is not a requirement, it will make the battle much, much easier and greatly increase your chance of successfully defeating Primeval Capra.
For optimal gearing, it’s highly recommended to transfer the trial-specific perks from the level 5 gear (available from NPC Zakal outside the Trial of the Tilted Walls) onto level 15 gear.
These perks will greatly increase the damage output and survivability of your character, and includes the following:
- Trial's Retaliation (Chest Perk): Summons thorns that reflect 100% of damage received (up to 74% of the enemy's attack. for 5 seconds (cooldown: 27 seconds).
- Trial's Resistance (Head Perk): Stuns the enemy for 3 seconds when hit (cooldown: 24 seconds).
- Trial's Agony (Legs Perk): Deals additional damage equal to 10% of the target's lost HP upon landing an attack (cooldown: 3 seconds).
- Trial's Refutation (Back Perk): Recovers HP equal to 18% of damage dealt upon landing an attack (cooldown: 5 seconds).
- Trial's Endurance (Feet Perk): Triggers [Super Armor] for 5 seconds when HP drops below 20% (cooldown: 60 seconds).
- Sequence of Trials (Hands Perk): Upon being hit, deals 5% Physical Damage over time for 5 seconds (cooldown: 15 seconds).

Consumables
There are multiple consumables that you should ensure you have prior to entering this battle, including the following:
- Advanced Nectar of Fortification - Grants +3 to Strength, Dexterity, Intellect, and Wisdom for 30 minutes.
- Advanced Nectar of Agility - Grants +10% Movement Speed and +9 Max Stamina for 30 minutes.
- Advanced Warrior's Meatloaf - Increases Attack by 35 for 30 minutes.
- Uncommon Hearty Pottage - Increases HP Recovery per Second by 12 for 30 minutes.
- Guardian's Grilled Fish - Increases Physical and Magic Defense by 25 for 30 minutes.
Each of these consumables listed above will last for a total of 30 minutes, which is more than enough time for you to complete this fight. Additionally, they will all stack on top of each other, providing your character with a large range of buffs, making this battle much, much easier.
Please note: It is not required to have all of these consumables - the more you have, the more buffs you will gain, making this battle easier.
It's also recommended to ensure you have the maximum amount of Health Potions recharged prior to entering this battle to maximize your survivability.
Location
The third Chrono Gate is located directly within the Soroma Stronghold, located at the red "X" in the image below. Once you get to this location on the map, you'll see a lever off to the side in a large, empty room. Once you activate the lever, a staircase will slowly appear from the ground, allowing you to follow the steps and challenge the third Chrono Gate boss - Primeval Capra!
Battle Mechanics and Phases
As you enter the third Chrono Gate, you'll find yourself in an arena with Primeval Capra, where you can begin to dish off as much damage as possible. After dealing some damage, you'll see Primeval Capra unleash a large screech, where he will then summon a large number of smaller mobs within the arena, which will start charging towards you.
Although all of these mobs will be charging towards you, Primeval Capra will not, allowing you to focus on the mobs without stressing over any devasting attacks coming in from the boss.
Helpful Tip: If you keep one or two of these mobs alive, you can easily kite them around in circles and reset your cooldowns for skills, consumables, and your Summon ability on your Chronotector to prepare for the next phase when Primeval Capra reappears. This is also a great way to regenerate some health and mana if needed.
As you continue to dish off damage, you will see two more waves of mobs appear, with the third (and final) wave having the mobs appear with him remaining in the battle. At this point, it's recommended to slowly defeat each of the lower-powered mobs, and then focus your damage output on Primeval Capra.
Be sure to dodge his abilities as much as possible, and to use your Summon ability (with Earthbreaker) to help you break the stamina of this boss (opening you up to dish off major damage). To be most strategic, you should try to time the usage of your Summon abilities when his stamina bar is full, allowing you to deplete his stamina as quickly (and often) as possible. As long as you follow these steps of using your cooldowns and Chronoctor wisely, and kiting when needed, you shouldn't have a problem taking down Primeval Capra.
Once you defeat Primeval Capra, you'll continue on to level and progress your character. Eventually, you'll come across the next Chrono Gate Boss (Arsenalith), which uncovers new battle mechanics and an all-new challenge. If you need help defeating Arsenalith, check out the guide below.
