Fairie Dragon - don't understand power

Recommended Posts

I played Fairie Dragons twice in the opening part of a game. Each time it was killed by Arcane Missle and Flame Cannon. These are both defined on this site as spells. How can they be used against a Fairie Dragon which says can't be targeted by spells or hero power? Is it because they are random? hat makes this a crappy card.

Faerie dragon can die to random target spells (eg. flamecannon) and AoE spells (eg. flamestrike). It can also be silenced. This is one of the reasons it isn't featured in many decks. Spectral Knight, however, is a big body that usually has to be killed by minions. This makes it a good card against spell heavy decks.

Thanks. Except for a hunter, the Faerie dragon is still better than Bloodfen Raptor, correct?

That may depend on the other cards in your deck.  For instance if you are a Paladin or Priest that relies on being able to boost your own units with spells, then the Faerie dragon would hinder this since you can't cast a spell on it.  On the flip side your opponent can't use a removal spell on it, which can be good early in the game.  I guess it really depends on how you intend to use the Faerie dragon on whether it's better or not.

In arena, I'd pick faerie dragon over bloodfen raptor, since you aren't guaranteed that you will get something to buff up your minions. However in constructed there are other 2-drops that are more useful for each deck like mechwarper or sorceror's apprentince so it's situational

Do note that you can play a Houndmaster onto your Raptor. You can't play it onto your Faerie Dragon.

Also, your Kill Command won't be activated by your Faerie Dragon. It will be activated by your Raptor.

That is why he wrote "Except for a hunter". Raptor is better in hunter, but worse than in any other class.
