wow Blue Posts: Legion Class Updates

1 post in this topic

16555-blue-posts-legion-class-updates.pn

There have been a number of posts over on the Alpha feedback forums giving insight into future updates for a number of classes. Check them out!

It seems like Blizzard are trying to make sure testers are kept in the loop by informing us ahead of time about changes that didn't quite make it into the most recent build, but are still planned. Personally, I'm loving this forward-thinking, since it gives us insight into fixes that the team has already prepared but haven't quite got it ready yet.

We've condensed all the posts into one large post below. The most notable change is the return of pets to Marksmanship Hunters as a baseline ability. There seems to be a rather mixed bag of emotions surrounding this change, since there was a focus on the Hunter themselves, rather than the use of a pet in Marksmanship. One can hope that the Lone Wolf talent will stay as a top-tier talent, otherwise we might see the differences between the Hunter specialisations begin to disappear again.

Blizzard Icon Planned Class Changes from Legion Feedback Forums

Unholy Death Knight

Hey Unholy Death Knights. Here’s a change that didn’t make it into today’s build, but we’re planning for a soon upcoming build:

The artifact’s active ability will be redesigned to be a new temporary cooldown. It will cause all pustulent explosions within a short duration to summon an Army of the Dead ghoul. This should add a bit more gameplay.

Keep that in mind for feedback on this build! Thanks!

Balance Druid

Hey Balance Druids. Here’s a change that didn’t make it into today’s build, but we’re planning for a soon upcoming build:

Astral Power generation could stand to be smoother. We’ll start with lowering the size of the spikes of AP generation from talents and the artifact ability. For example, the artifact ability will generate 10/20/40 with each cast. We’re also considering raising baseline AP generate, but not yet sure, as overall AP generation rate is likely a bit high.

Keep that in mind for feedback on this build! Thanks!

Feral Druid

Hey Feral Druids. Here’s a change that didn’t make it into today’s build, but we’re planning for a soon upcoming build:

The new version of Open Wounds should help better balance direct and bleed damage, but has the issue of how it works when you refresh/extend Rip with Ferocious Bite and/or Sabertooth. We’ll resolve that in a future build.

Keep that in mind for feedback on this build! Thanks!

Guardian Druid

Hey Guardian Druids. Here’s a change that didn’t make it into today’s build, but we’re planning for a soon upcoming build:

Critical Strike is not currently very valuable, defensively, for Guardian Druids. We’ll be adding a passive Critical Strike -> Dodge conversion (rating to rating, not % to %) to solve this, similar to how Protection Warriors, Protection Paladins, and Blood Death Knights have Critical Strike -> Parry.

Keep that in mind for feedback on this build! Thanks!

Beast Mastery Hunter

Hey Beast Mastery Hunters. Here are a few changes that didn’t make it into today’s build, but we’re planning for a soon upcoming build:

One of the most common points of feedback we’ve heard is that all of the specs are cool on their own, but none of them maintain the existing “Hunter + Ranged Weapon + Single Pet” archetype that people have grown attached to (Survival is now Melee, Marksmanship has lost its pet, and Beast Mastery has added a ton of additional pets).

We’re going to try offering a talent choice that will allow you to opt back into having gameplay focus around you and your one strong pet, rather than the many Dire Beasts that it currently does.

Exotic Munitions is being removed, and Dire Frenzy will be added in its place. Dire Frenzy triggers a flurry of attacks from your pet, grants an attack speed buff for several seconds, and immediately generates some Focus. It has a 15sec cooldown. It will work with all other talents and abilities that interact with Dire Beast, such as Wild Call (chance to reset its cooldown), One With the Pack (higher Wild Call chance), Dire Stable (more Focus generation), and Bestial Wrath (cooldown reduction on use). And if you get lucky with Wild Call procs, you will find that the attack speed buff can stack.

Keep those in mind for feedback on this build! Thanks!

Marksmanship Hunter

Hey Marksmanship Hunters.

Marksmanship losing its pet has been one of the most impactful, but contentious changes we’ve made this expansion. We’re going to try returning the pet to Marksmanship, baseline, along with Lone Wolf as a level 15 talent (and very competitively tuned), so that this is a choice again.

Exotic Munitions is being removed, and Black Arrow will be moving down to where it was, since the Lone Wolf + Black Arrow combination proved to be very popular and fun (the newest version of Black Arrow, where the minion reliably spawns and taunts the target, that is).

Keep those in mind for feedback on this build! Thanks!

Survival Hunter

Hey Survival Hunters. Here’s a change that didn’t make it into today’s build, but we’re planning for a soon upcoming build:

Dragonsfire Grenade will have its design adjusted a bit to be thrown at your target, making it less like a trap.

Keep that in mind for feedback on this build! Thanks!

Mistweaver Monk

Hey Mistweaver Monks. Here’s a change that didn’t make it into today’s build, but we’re planning for a soon upcoming build:

We’re planning to add a bit of rotational synergy with Essence Font, by making Refreshing Jade Wind also increase the healing of Essence Fonts casted while it’s active.

Keep that in mind for feedback on this build! Thanks!

Subtlety Rogue

Hey Subtlety Rogues. Here’s a change that didn’t make it into today’s build, but we’re planning for a soon upcoming build:

The Level 30 talent row will be adjusted to work with Shadow Dance. This is partially implemented in today’s build, so you’ll see some evidence of this. For Subtlety, Nightstalker and Shadow Focus will apply to Shadow Dance as well as Stealth, at a reduced effectiveness. And Subterfuge for Subtlety will also slightly increase the duration of Shadow Dance.

Keep that in mind for feedback on this build! Thanks!

Changes to Tier 20 Arcane Mage & Assassination Rogue set bonuses are coming, developers discuss possible changes to Mistweaver Monks, Shaman class mount will switch tints between specs and the crafting reagents for Paladin & Warlock class mounts will be re-evaluated in a future 7.2 build.
Arcane Mage Tier 20 2P Set Bonus
Item - Mage T20 Arcane 2P Bonus will be redesigned to work with other spell than Greater Invisibility to avoid spamming utility buttons for a DPS increase.
      Sigma (Source)
We're considering making the set bonus work with some spell other than Greater Invisibility, to avoid overloading a utility button with a rotational DPS benefit. Mistweaver Monks & Mythic Raiding
The MW community feels their spots in Mythic raids are jeopardized and progression hampers their class. No immediate changes are planned, but Sigma drafted possible future changes.
      Sigma (Source)
Much like the Disc post in the other thread, Mistweaver is more in a state of thinking ahead for possible refinements, but no immediate shake-ups. This is preliminary, but a possible direction is that some things could be smoothed out by reducing the emphasis on Essence Font. That could help with, for example, drawing out more of a regular ongoing decision between Enveloping Mist, Vivify, and Effuse, rather than having that so often pushed out by Essence Font. Also, making the value of mastery more stable, and reducing the importance of churning as much mana into Essence Fonts as possible. For fair warning, a cooldown on EF is not out of the question after seeing how it's played out, but that would come alongside seeing how other heals might have to be strengthened.

Rising Thunder has wound up underperforming which we would likely look at at the same time. It would likely be helped regardless by changes that made it easier to spend mana and GCDs on Rising Sun Kick, without always taking away from something like an Essence Font. Paladin & Warlock Class Mounts Requirements
Both classes need expensive materials to craft their class mounts. Requirements will be re-examined soon.
      Muffinus (Source)
Why do only the Warlock and Paladin class mount quests require obscenely expensive mats? Its a bit ridiculous we alone have to spend tons of gold to get our mounts and no other classes do.
I posted this in the main thread, but cross-posting it here for visibility - we'll be re-examining the rare material requirement for the Paladin and Warlock class mounts, we don't want the gate for these to be an expensive tradeskill material.
Tier 20 Assassination Rogue 2P Set Bonus
Item - Rogue T20 Assassination 2P Bonus Item - Rogue T20 Assassination 4P Bonus The bonus to Garrote would only make sense while picking Exsanguinate or in a situation where you keep up two Garrotes. It's needless to say that after multiple Ruptures are up, Garrote may not be worth using.
      Sigma (Source)
The 2-piece will get some single-target benefit. That said, part of the benefit of the bonus is the improved multi-target capability that Garrote has with a shorter cooldown. Shaman Class Mount Adjustments
Currently, Enhancement Shamans have a fiery appearance for their class mount (Farseer's Raging Tempest), which will be fixed in a future update. The spec will switch mount tints with Elemental.
      Muffinus (Source)
In the next PTR build, elemental will be fiery, and enhancement will be stormy.

We are also making changes to the resto version to make it more watery, and remove the strobe effects.

The second installment of the popular series is only a month away. The publisher, Dark Horse, has released a preview of this new book.
A year ago, the first volume of World of Warcraft: Chronicle brought us some amazing artwork and the extremely interesting story of the early days of Azeroth - the highlight being the existence of the void lords.

In the second volume, we will learn more about the world of Draenor from its vibrant beginning to its final doom of becoming what we know today as Outland. In-between, we find chapters about the First and the Second War.
IGN has an exclusive preview of a few pages and artwork images from World of Warcraft: Chronicle vol.2, which you can also download from here.

Two weeks ago, we had a group that cleared Darkheart Thicket +15 with no healer and obtained two chests. This group has taken it a little further and 2 chested +19. Congratulations!
