World PvP on a PvE server

7 posts in this topic

I'm a bit new to WoW and as such I'm little confused about the server differences. How does World PvP function on a PvE server as compared to a PvP server? I understand that on a PvP server players on the opposing faction can attack you whenever they wish in a contested area but how does it work on PvE servers? Can you flag yourself for PvP on a PvE server if you wish to participate in World PvP?

Thank you for the response, Mutterkorn. How does the flag work? Is there an icon next to player names when they are flagged?

Yes you can. Simply type /pvp and you are flagged.

And there is a small faction icon on your Unit Frame.

Edit: I am not sure how long it lasts, but i think if you turned it on manually, you have to turn it off the same way. Only difference: If you turn it off, it will take five minutes until it really turns off.

The same happens, if you turn it on by attacking a guard or a member of the opposite faction. But i think here it turns off automatically five minutes after your last hostile action.

Thank you both for the information, I greatly appreciate it!

Your name is a different colour (green) when you are flagged for PvP

Additionally, if you have PvP quests, they will automatically flag you until the quests are completed or dropped (with a 5 min timer before flag expires)

You will have a resident pvp flag after exiting BGs for 5 minutes

One other thing, if it's Red, it's Dead

Hi, i have just tried out some Antorus bosses in mythic and i saw, that my logs are so....
In heroic difficulty my logs are better. So I have no idea, what am I doing wrong there... As I am doing the same thing, only with a bit more tactics...
Can anybody give some tips, on this matter?

      Hay,

I seem to struggle to get better DPS. I figured out that i used chaos strike and blade dance to less. and i should use less Throw glaive and fellrush.
But i stil seem to have trouble getting my dps on.  Please take a look on the logs at the 14th.
I really dislike using the "eye beam build" (it feel slow to me) so i still use the 2221311 build.

First off, I absolutely adore this class and especially the brewmaster theme, but I'm just not making good use of it. I'm also not very good or knowledgable at it, so please excuse my stupidity in this ramble :P
With other tanks, I always feel like I'm in control. I have abilities that easily gather all enemies to me, but it's so different with the monk. If we're not counting the artifact weapon's special ability (since you spend at least 98 levels without it), I basically have a single proper AoE attack, being the Keg Smash. Compared to other tanks' abilites like Thunder Clap, Blood Boil, etc., I feel like Keg Smash is absolutely terrible. It has a much smaller radius, so I always have to run around and try to herd groups into tight bunches before I can effect all of them. If I'm completely surrounded by enemies within melee range, I feel like I'm lucky if I hit even a third of them with the splash, and so often I have to run around and tag drifters with melee attacks. I'm really jealous of the other classes' spells that are centered on the caster or placeable.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this a common problem? I know I have the Provoke ability as well, but being a single target spell with an 8 second cooldown, it doesn't really help my problem much. I really want to make my monk work, but I feel completely at a loss in dungeons and raids sometimes, and I always fall back to my prot paladin just because I feel like I'm doing an awful job with my monk.
Pleeease show me how I'm being an idiot and how the brewmaster is actually a competent tank!

I am following the rotation given in the class page on here. My parses are terrible for my ilvl and I don't understand what i am doing wrong and why my dps isn't higher. i havent been using firestarter because i feel like the boss is only above 90% for 5 seconds. Been using RoP for most fights because i have T21 4p.

      Hiya!
Can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong with my frostmage, since it feels like I'm underperforming compared to other guys with the same ilvl.
https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/pMdCBwHG6mQb712z This is a normal pug run I did yesterday.

Edit: Will add a bit more info now since I was in a hurry when i wrote this.

I know i dont have the optimal legendaries. Only got 2 to drop on my mage. The gloves and the waist. During this normal run i probably had the wrong talent setup for some fights (arctic gale on tichondrius etc.). The question is, what can i improve? Do i need to get Better legendaries or is My rotation slightly off?
