From Vengeance(5 man content) to Havoc (raid content) transition

8 posts in this topic

Hello my fellow Demon Hunters,

I have a small problem/situation that I have to overcome / solve during the first weeks of Legion. I think that there are a couple of people who also have the same problem, so I hope that someone has an answer for me.

So here's my situation: Me and 4 other friends are going to run heroic + mythic dungeons in the first couple of weeks in Legion together. We are all in the same guild/raid. In this dungeon farming period I am going to tank (V-DH). My plan was to tank in raid content aswell, but unfortunately the raid lead is in no need of tanks and therefore their only offer was a DPS slot in the raid. This was a no brainer to me: Either I'll play solo as a tank in another raid, or I'll play DPS together with my friends in the raid. So now I am studying everything there is about H-DH aswell. One thing which bothers me, and where I haven't found a specific plan for, was how to balance my gear choices so we as a 5 man group can advance in heroics + mythics quickly with me as a tank, without being handicapped (or at least minimize my handicap) as a DPS when the raids start. Please keep in mind that the raid isn't a hardcore progression guild, but plans to do mythic raids early on.

So my question is: How should I farm my gear? Should I run 50% of the time with Havoc Loot turned on (even when I am tanking) and the other 50%? What am I going to do with my artifact weapon? Get both at 13 first, then focussing on my Havoc Artifact weapons? Or just focus on them, since an unskilled Vengeance Artifact weapon might be enough? My goal is to minimize my handicap, have enough gear for my Vengeance spec in order to run all mythic dungeons and at the same time being prepared for the raids as a havoc. Is this even possible?

Kind regards

It depends on how much work you want to put into this whole thing. If your plan is to play 2-3 hours a day between launch and raid, then you're not going to be very effective in either role and need to pick one and stick with it. If you plan on spending 6-9 hours a day average then making what you want to work is totally doable (I think it will take less time - something like 5-7 a day, but I'm not sure.)

Personally I'm doing basically the same thing as you, Vengance for groups with friends and then Havoc for raid. I'm going to be doing my Veng weapon first and spending only enough points to get my Charred Warblades trait. This only costs 14 traits and should give you enough AP (as long as you do ALL of your dailies/random heroic/order hall stuff/mythics each week) to ALSO get 20 traits in your havoc weapon before raid is released, 20 is exactly what you need for your first two gold traits.

Gearing I'm going to be loot-spec'd as Havoc for 99% of my heroics/mythics. The only time I'll be changing is when the boss has a tanking trinket. If you get gear that is more survivability based for Vengeance then use it, otherwise your normal havoc priority gear will do good enough for Veng.

Again though, double check loot for bosses before you kill it. If the boss doesn't have anything you need for Havoc but does have something solid for Veng, loot-spec for veng. This is, IMO, better then fishing for WF/sockets that you will most likely not get.

Very solid advice.

Gear should be interchangeable between the two apart from trinkets and maybe one or two other items.  Suss out what raid bosses your planning to kill each week and have a note which drops which for yourself to allow for smooth switching of loot spec's.

I am going to play 7-8 hours a day on average, so this should be doable. Regarding the trinket: Are you aiming to get the tanking trinket BEFORE the havoc trinket? And then when you have the tanking trinket, you just try to get the havoc trinket?

Ye, very solid advice, I really appreciate it. And I think that a couple of demon hunters will face this situation (and even other classes / speccs ofc).

If your raid slot is for dps, then get the dps trinket first.  (it wont be bad for tanking, just not optimal)

If boss X drops a tank trinket and doesn't drop a decent dps upgrade for you, loot spec for tanking and cross your fingers.

If boss  Y drops both trinkets, loot spec for dps and fingers crossed.

Good luck with it

The classes we are currently recruiting:
      •    Hunter

      •    Warlock
      •    Balance druid
      Who are we?
<Andromeda>  is a 2 nights heroic raiding guild located on Stormrage eu. While the atmosphere in the guild is friendly and social, we do strive and focus on progression during our raid nights. We also run mythic+ during our free evenings. While we have a stable roaster we are looking to expand our raiding team and if we fill our ranks we will not shy away from going into mythic raiding.
<Andromeda>  was  re-formed for the start of WoD and cleared each raid instance on heroic, and are looking to do the same in Legion. We are composed of a tight-knit group of old friends, most of whom have played together since vanilla or early expansions. A lot of us are former "hardcore" raiders, but are now pursuing a more relaxed and fun approach to raiding and WoW. If you're a former member from the Vanilla/TBC days, then you will probably recognise a few old faces and names! We like to organise other activities within the guild aside from raiding and mythic+, like quiz games on our mumble server where you can win different awards and the occasional IRL meetup.
Many of our members have variable work commitments (travel abroad for work, rotas (e.g. doctors/EMTs etc)) and we appreciate this is reflective of the wider community. As such, we do have an understanding if you sometimes can't show up for raid due to work or important exam in your study, but we do expect you to have a high attendance.
      Our progress:
      7/7H Emerald Nightmare
      3/3H Trial of Valor
      5/10H Nighthold
What would be expected of you?
What we do ask is that our members are familiar with tactics on new bosses, adapt to changes and handle constructive feedback. Have fully gemmed/enchanted their gear, bring flasks and food. However, further to the above, we keep the guildbank stocked with free-of-charge "emergency" consumables to help those with busy schedules that sometimes don't have the time to farm before a raid.
      Raid times
      Tuesdays 21:00-23:00
      Sundays 20:00-23:00
(If we are close to a kill and people can stay, we will extend the raid for 30 min)
      Where do I sign up?!
Fill the application on the bottom of the page and send it to andromedarecruit@gmail.com. If you have any questions or would like to know more about our guild? Just whisper one of our members and ask to be pointed towards an officer (or whisper Jaegra, Garantine, Hisui, or Justifier directly).
      Trails
If your application get accepted and you are invited to our guild you will start your journey as a trail member that will last 4 weeks, during your trail period you will be getting feedback on your performance from our officers and members.
      Application
      Tell us about yourself
(A small summery of who you are)
Can you keep high attendance for our raids?
(If you have work or study that will sometimes interfere with our raids, this is where you tell us about it)
      Current raid experience
(Describe your current raid experience in wow)
What can you offer our guild?
(What can you as player bring to our raid and guild)
Why did you choose to apply to our guild?
(Describe why you want to join our guild)

Location: Horde – US Connected Realms: The Venture Co - Maelstrom - Lightninghoof
      About us:
Converge has been around since WoW Vanilla and has been raiding together since Molten Core; most of our members have been playing together for years. In its older days, when most of us where young, we were more raid focused and demanded a lot from our members. Over the years we had to adjust our playtime and priorities with a growing list of RL responsibilities and are now, for all intents and purposes, a two day raiding guild. We had to cut our total hours spent playing WoW but we still remain just as competitive and result oriented.
      Mandatory reading.
Basics: ilvl 885+; 40+ points in MS Artifact Weapon; DMG Dealers 400k+ DPS ST.
Raiding 101: ability to execute/avoid fight mechanics; communicate in English and use a microphone.
We raid twice a week, a total of 8 hours; attendance of 90% is mandatory. We require you to function at 100% from the second the raid starts all the way to its end; if you cannot commit to a raiding schedule and be online on time this is not a guild for you.
GRepairs and flasks are provided by GBank; members pitch in mats and/or gold to help out. Guilds preparedness to raid and supply its members with enchants/etc is a team effort. If you are accepted as a member be prepared to do your part.
      Raid Times: 8:00 PM – 12:00 AM Eastern Time – Monday/Tuesday.
Recruitment: Currently we are only accepting Ranged DPS / Heals.

      Legion Progression:

      About Us
We’re a Mythic raiding guild of close friends looking to meet new people and have fun, all while progressing at a steady pace.
We offer a competitive raiding atmosphere on a very minimal schedule.  Raiding only 9 hours a week and being competitive is a tough task, so we want people who are not only reliable, but know how to make the most of a short period of time.
Past progression included pre-patch kill of Mu’ru, Kil’jaeden, Yogg-Saron (0 Light), Algalon, Anub-arak, Lich King, Cho’gall, Sinestra, Deathwing, Lei Shen, Ra-den, and Garrosh.

      Raid Times
Tuesday-Thursday 10PM-1AM CST (server time) or 8-11PM PST.
      Only NINE hours a week!!!

      Progression
      Emerald Nightmare (7/7 Mythic)
      Trial of Valor (3/3 Heroic)
      Nighthold (3/10 Mythic, 10/10 Heroic)

      Recruitment Needs
      Healer
      --Druid
      Melee DPS
      --any competitive, high DPS
      Ranged DPS
      --any competitive, high DPS

**All quality players regardless of class will ALWAYS be considered**

      What We’re Looking For
-Be reliable – show up to raids on time on a consistent basis.
-Understand your class- knowing when to swap to a different talent for a specific fight can often push a raid group over the top. Knowing when to play fire instead of arcane, or survival instead of marks is also a very important quality.  This included all hybrid classes that have damage and healing specs.
-Experience, skill and gear – We are looking for people wo want to progress seriously and have a capability to play your class to a high level. We expect applicants to have combat logs to prove this as well.
-Attitude – We have a fairly laid back raid atmosphere, but you must be willing to accept criticism.  If you are told you are messing up repeatedly, it is nothing personal, but we may sit you for the fight to get a kill.
-Outside raid participation – Artifact power and legendries are two systems put in place in Legion that have an impact on raiding.  We are looking for raiders that perform their own player progression outside of raids (mythic+, artifact power farming, etc.) We do not require our raiders to be at 54 traits, but each raider must actively pursue this goal.
-Having an alt is a bonus, but by no means required.

      What We Offer
      -A competitive raid environment
-A stable guild that has existed for many years
-Other friendly players with multiple classes to socialize and play with

If any of this interests you at all, please feel free to contact us in game or on our website.
We DO NOT do formal applications. After an interview on Discord, we will set you up with a try out during our farm run.  In the end, it’s your play that should decide whether you get into the guild or not.

<Abyss> is recruiting to bolster our Mythic raid team. We are a zero drama guild of adults who enjoy raiding progression content.
The guild has been around since day one of classic. We have a relatively relaxed raid environment, while still pushing progression content. We have solid leadership that encourages players to excel while still enjoying the game.
Raiders must come prepared, on time, with flasks, pots, food, and runes.
Raiders must know their class and role.
Potential raiders must have been gearing for the content.
Drama Queens and Trolls need not apply.
      Progression:
      7/7M, 3/3H, 1/10M (10/10H)
      Our raid schedule is:
      Tuesday - Wednesday - Thursday

We are looking for the following classes/specs, but will consider any good and dedicated players.

Ranged - Warlock, Elemental Shaman, Hunter
If you are interested in joining our Mythic team, please apply at abyss-guild.enjin.com

      Hey,
I used to be proud of my parses, doing 85-90%+ parses at ilvl 878 or so. Since then I've geared up and feel like my stats are in the right place (though mastery could be a bit higher). Now I'm parsing at 52-65% even though I don't think I'm doing anything majorly different with my rotation, and I even have the 2pc t19...

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, please take a look if you have some time.
