From Vengeance(5 man content) to Havoc (raid content) transition

Hello my fellow Demon Hunters,

I have a small problem/situation that I have to overcome / solve during the first weeks of Legion. I think that there are a couple of people who also have the same problem, so I hope that someone has an answer for me.

So here's my situation: Me and 4 other friends are going to run heroic + mythic dungeons in the first couple of weeks in Legion together. We are all in the same guild/raid. In this dungeon farming period I am going to tank (V-DH). My plan was to tank in raid content aswell, but unfortunately the raid lead is in no need of tanks and therefore their only offer was a DPS slot in the raid. This was a no brainer to me: Either I'll play solo as a tank in another raid, or I'll play DPS together with my friends in the raid. So now I am studying everything there is about H-DH aswell. One thing which bothers me, and where I haven't found a specific plan for, was how to balance my gear choices so we as a 5 man group can advance in heroics + mythics quickly with me as a tank, without being handicapped (or at least minimize my handicap) as a DPS when the raids start. Please keep in mind that the raid isn't a hardcore progression guild, but plans to do mythic raids early on.

So my question is: How should I farm my gear? Should I run 50% of the time with Havoc Loot turned on (even when I am tanking) and the other 50%? What am I going to do with my artifact weapon? Get both at 13 first, then focussing on my Havoc Artifact weapons? Or just focus on them, since an unskilled Vengeance Artifact weapon might be enough? My goal is to minimize my handicap, have enough gear for my Vengeance spec in order to run all mythic dungeons and at the same time being prepared for the raids as a havoc. Is this even possible?

Kind regards

It depends on how much work you want to put into this whole thing. If your plan is to play 2-3 hours a day between launch and raid, then you're not going to be very effective in either role and need to pick one and stick with it. If you plan on spending 6-9 hours a day average then making what you want to work is totally doable (I think it will take less time - something like 5-7 a day, but I'm not sure.)

Personally I'm doing basically the same thing as you, Vengance for groups with friends and then Havoc for raid. I'm going to be doing my Veng weapon first and spending only enough points to get my Charred Warblades trait. This only costs 14 traits and should give you enough AP (as long as you do ALL of your dailies/random heroic/order hall stuff/mythics each week) to ALSO get 20 traits in your havoc weapon before raid is released, 20 is exactly what you need for your first two gold traits.

Gearing I'm going to be loot-spec'd as Havoc for 99% of my heroics/mythics. The only time I'll be changing is when the boss has a tanking trinket. If you get gear that is more survivability based for Vengeance then use it, otherwise your normal havoc priority gear will do good enough for Veng.

Again though, double check loot for bosses before you kill it. If the boss doesn't have anything you need for Havoc but does have something solid for Veng, loot-spec for veng. This is, IMO, better then fishing for WF/sockets that you will most likely not get.

Very solid advice.

Gear should be interchangeable between the two apart from trinkets and maybe one or two other items.  Suss out what raid bosses your planning to kill each week and have a note which drops which for yourself to allow for smooth switching of loot spec's.

I am going to play 7-8 hours a day on average, so this should be doable. Regarding the trinket: Are you aiming to get the tanking trinket BEFORE the havoc trinket? And then when you have the tanking trinket, you just try to get the havoc trinket?

Ye, very solid advice, I really appreciate it. And I think that a couple of demon hunters will face this situation (and even other classes / speccs ofc).

If your raid slot is for dps, then get the dps trinket first.  (it wont be bad for tanking, just not optimal)

If boss X drops a tank trinket and doesn't drop a decent dps upgrade for you, loot spec for tanking and cross your fingers.

If boss  Y drops both trinkets, loot spec for dps and fingers crossed.

Good luck with it

Safety not Guaranteed is an English speaking Alliance raiding guild on Emerald Dream. We raid 3 times a week and are mainly focused on mythic raiding.
      Current Progress:
      7/7M, 3/3M, 10/10M, 7/9M ToS, 4/11M Antorus
      Recruitment:
We are currently recruiting the following classes to progress with us through Antorus:
      Melee DPS: DH
Ranged DPS: Mage, Warlock, Druid, Priest
      Our raiding schedule is:
      - Thursday: 20.00 - 23.00 (server time)
      - Monday: 20.00 - 23.00 (server time)
      - Tuesday: 20.00 - 23.00 (server time)
      Apply here: http://safetynotguaranteed.guildlaunch.com/
Even if we are not actively recruiting your class, we will consider any exceptional applications.
      About us:
Safety not Guaranteed (SnG) was initially formed on horde side by a small group of friends in early MoP, raiding 10man heroic. Later during the expansion we faction changed to Alliance and expanded our roster to a 20man mythic team, where we cleared SoO mythic as a guild. Many of us have been playing together since as early as WotLK, and have friendships with each other that extend outside the game as well.
Our goal ever since the guild was formed has been to progress through content at a steady pace, without hardcore hours, while having a good time together. We aim to clear each tier before the next one is released. In WoD we cleared 7/7M, 10/10M, 13/13M when relevant, and have cleared each tier so far in Legion obtaining most mythic cutting edge achievements, and plan to continue doing so.
      What we offer:
A structured mythic raiding team and raiding times. We start invites 19:45 and begin to clear trash so we can have the first pulls at 20:00 A fair rotation and loot distribution via loot council. We keep spreadsheets! A steady guild with a good community and good guild atmosphere. You may encounter some trolling during your stay. A focused attitude during progression, and relaxed attitude during farm content. We like to chat and have fun, but focus during difficult content. A desire to raid. We often run an extra raid day on the 1st week of a new raid tier. This is 100% optional, but most people are excited to get into a new instance. Additionally we often run some sort of alt raids on fridays (100% optional), and do a lot of mythic+ content within the guild.
      What we want from you:
High attendance. We expect a minimum of 80% attendance, though most of our raiders have near to 100%. We run a small roster to minimize rotation, and want to be able to rely on you. Commitment. We don't want someone who is looking to join, get geared and then leave. We have a 2-3 week trial period during which we will control gearing while we get to know you. Honesty. If you're having problems within the guild, or have real life issues, we'd like to hear rather than you just disappearing. Talk to us. Be prepared! This means reading up on new fights, having consumables (flask, pots, food, runes), gemming and enchanting properly, and being on time! Communication. We want you to know how to communicate both verbally and in writing. We use TeamSpeak for communicating in raids, though we also have a guild discord! Raiding awareness. We want you to not stand in fire, unless it's required... Progression oriented attitude. Everyone makes mistakes, but learning is part of progression, so we value people who continue to improve over time. Understanding. Sometimes, things don't always go smoothly. We may hit a wall on a specific boss for a while, or you may have to sit for someone else during a progression raid. This is part of mythic raiding. We try to treat everyone fairly, and are open to feedback.

      Who We Are
Tequila Sundown is a growing raid team formed within the <Karma Horde> guild on US-Stormreaver. Lead by a husband/wife team with high-level raiding experience dating back to WotLK, we're a "positively determined" progression team that maintains a light-hearted atmosphere while tackling mythic difficulty content. We're mature adults with jobs and family seeking like-minded players who have a passion for the game but want to avoid the needless angst or drama that often gets associated with progression raiding. We log on to have fun - so come have some fun with us!

      A Team Within a Community
Our raid team is one of four within the larger guild of <Karma Horde>, which was formed back during WotLK. As such, the guild and Discord are very active and social. There are always people around online and in-game. The community atmosphere is welcoming and friendly to players of all levels. The guild enforces a Code of Conduct that has zero tolerance for hate/offensive speech.

We care more about the people we play with than their item levels or progression rankings. We want players who are going to log in on non-raid nights and be down for all the other things we're into: pushing mythic+, doing world quests, PVP shenanigans, achievement hunting, hyper-competitive fishing.. there's so much to do and so many ways to enjoy the game. This is our favorite hobby and we'd like to play with you if it is yours, too.

      Progression Goals
We are 1/11 Mythic, Heroic AOTC Antorus progression.
We strive for a fun environment that takes the challenges of mythic seriously and giving the content the respect it deserves. Our aim is, as all mythic teams, full clear of content but with always keeping the friendly spirit of camaraderie alive. Performance matters, but so does staying positive and finding the fun in the difficulty of a raid.
We do not require mythic raid experience to join our team but we do expect mythic-level dedication and accountability from all of our raiders.

      Raid Days/Times
      Our mandatory raids are:
      Tuesdays 8:45pm PT - 11:45pm PT
      Thursdays 8:45pm PT - 11:45pm PT
      Optional:
      Sundays 8:45pm PT - 11:45pm PT
Sundays are for raiding the previous raid difficulty.

      Recruitment Needs
We have no immediate needs, but we will always consider exceptional applicants who match our progression goals and ability.

      The Nitty Gritty

Order of the Silverflame (OSF) has been around since Vanilla despite the fact we had a short break during the Burning Crusade. We are a friendly group who enjoy WoW and raiding. We have fun and joke around, we share precious memories in game and outside game, but when bosses need to go down then it is all serious! We expect members of the guild to enjoy the game as much as we do and to take part in our raids and maintain a good level of attendance per month.

Are you a Tank, Healer or Dps?

Are you looking for a raiding atmosphere that is somewhere between casual and semi-hardcore?
While we have this mentality, we are still have progressed further than other guilds that state they are semi hardcore
Do you want to raid with a group of people who are always looking to improve and kill bosses for epic purple stuff?

      Then you should keep reading...

      About us: 01/11M 11/11HC ABT
      Raid Times: Mon/Wed/Sun 8:00PM-11:00PM ST
Server: Draenor - Horde Side (Pve)

Trials: So you got an invite eh? Congrats! You'll have a trial period where we'll evaluate you and your performance and most of all how you fit in with the group. Gear is obtainable and if you're a good listener and someone who likes to learn you'll inherently get better over time. Finally, if you get a spot on the team the honeymoon isn't over. We expect you to continue to play at a level that will be beneficial to the group.

      Expectations:
      1. Know your class - we don't need world #1's but we certainly appreciate and value someone who knows how to play their toon over someone who is mindlessly clicking buttons with little to no success.
      2. Mechanics. Over your big d**k DPS we want you to make sure you know mechanics of fights. Making the same mistakes over and over doesn't do the team or you any good.
      3. Be prepared. Food, Flasks and most of all be at the instance. Just because there is a summoning stone doesn't mean you should expect a summon every night. Show some initiative and be ready when raid invites go out.
      4. Communication is important. If you are not gonna make a raid let us know, we do value real life over this fun game we all love.

If all of this sounds pretty good to you and you'd like to chat more then shoot us a message: Kravspants#2663 or Zelest#2444 and let's have a chat about getting you into our raid team.

Alternatively you can make an application on our website below! Exceptional applications of any class and spec will be considered.
      http://www.silverflame.org

If you wanna be social in our guild and get to know us, come join the party. Contact us and we can have a chat.
