How to use judgement as a Protection Pally

Recommended Posts

I'm brand new to playing Protection and Tanking, and I'm trying to work out how best to use Judgement.

Say that you use Judgement on a single target; the debuff lasts for ages but the cooldown on Judgement is only 8 seconds. As soon as it's off cooldown do you cast it again even though the debuff still has ages to go? Also with multiple targets, is the idea to cast Judgement then target switch everytime it's off cooldown to have as many mobs debuffed as possible?

Thanks in advance for clarifying :)

Hi FitzChivalry

Use as soon as it's off cooldown.

The Judgment spell changes effect depending on your specialisation and does not debuff the target when in the Protection specialisation. http://www.wowhead.com/spell=20271/judgment

The rotation guide here might be helpful: https://www.icy-veins.com/wow/protection-paladin-pve-tank-rotation-cooldowns-abilities

Thanks Primal,

Apologies, I should have said that I did take a look at the official Icy Veins Protection Pally guide, but it didn't explicitly say how to manage Judgement, just what priority order it had in the rotation.

The debuff I was referring to is the one from Judgement of Light where enemy attacks heal you, but after thinking about it, in multitarget situations it's obviously better to maximise the amount of targets that have this debuff, so switching targets to cast Judgement off cooldown is probably the best way to go.

This is probably obvious and automatic for most Prot Paladins, but being brand new, I have no idea what I'm doing!

That's why we're here! To make sure you do know what you're doing!

Your assumption is correct, in those multi-target situations, you want as many mobs healing you as possible.

Basicly you want to use Judgement on every 4th GCD, to get the best possible boost to SotR uptime.
I did not ran the exact numbers, but this should also be best for single target dps.

Note: If you have to wait for a GCD, you might wanna wait some ms for Judgement as well, so you don't delay it any further.
