MM top raiding spec or not?

Recommended Posts

So looking at IcyVeins I see that MM hunter is considered the top spec in raiding and strong in mythic+ dungeons, but all the simulations I hve seen (4 or 5) have shown MM in the bottom 3rd of dps specs.

I've also seen Feral labeled as medium dps in IcyVeins but top dps in most simulations.

Can anyone please make sense of this?

The simulations often can take some time to settle after a new expansion, so always take them with a grain (handful) of salt. Which sims were you looking at?

I'm not a Hunter main, but I would trust Azor's judgement in regards to the potential for different specialisations. It's also worth noting that the ability to do straight damage does differ greatly from how one might perform in the raids that are due to release.

Azor's recommendations in the guides is as follows for MM:

Quote

Marksmanship is currently considered the strongest raiding spec in Emerald Nightmare raiding, while also being a decent spec for Mythic+ dungeons.

It's very much tailored for the release of EN and the M+ on the 20th.

Hopefully someone else can shed some light on this!

The first and biggest problem with looking at sims is that they rarely if ever tell the whole story.  If you're looking at the ones of the front page of the simc webpage, those are 1-target, no movement, stand-still-and-turret fights, with only 19 artifact traits invested (1 trait away from having 2 gold traits as MM).  This type of fight does not happen at all in either Emerald Nightmare or Nighthold.

So, im fine with using both speccs, BM and MM. Just simple as that, took MM for encoutners where u dont really have to move and BM for movement encounter.

With the MM´s bombing u can compete with any other class at multi target, specifically bursting AE is very powerful here.

Some if my friends already crying cause they play MM or Boomkin after they took a look at the new Sims...

Take a look at Feral DPS in Situations with Multi Target, im fine with the Balancing now, except Demonhunters. ^^

Are two days of EN enough to make me think I made a mistake levelling my BM artifact first? I'm just about to the second gold trait and I think I'm going to have a lot of catch-up to do in order to be useful in EN.

BM is fine in raids. Once the Pack Leader/Kill Command artifact talent gets maxed and you throw in 3 Pack Leader relics the single target boss DPS is nice. I only have one Pack Leader relic right now. MM is still better for straight nuking the boss but BM is right on MM's tale in terms of DPS. Like Greedy said, you can always switch back and forth and luckily BM and MM stat priority is similar. Once we max our artifacts for both BM and MM we are full power dual spec'd.

I love BM. BM is like a melee(your pets) that doesn't have to move from the boss. The pets can stand in breathe, puddles, etc. and don't have to move unless you have to pick up adds. It does hurt a lot to have to pick up adds because the pets are SO FREKEN SLOW. I want that legendary ring so my pets are faster by getting the tenacity and cunning passives along with the 10% increase damage.

My 2 cents,  I've ranked really high on all fights as BM. Yes I'm aware it's only a few days of logs , etc etc etc but my point is even ranking top for ilvl on a few bosses, MM numbers were still much higher.  At equal ilvl. It's semi depressing but I knew MM was better going in.

i have done top world 25 raiding in multiple x-pacs unless you are pushing for world/server first play what you enjoy. I can do about 10% ish more damage as marks over bm but marks is fliping boring so i rock BM now that i no longer hardcore raid.

BTWa person having fun will more often then not produce better numbers playing what they enjoy vs playing a mathmatical better spec they dont have fun with.

See i have always played MM as a hunter however i have found that since WOD MM have become so squishy that any benefit of additional DPS is outweighed by the fact that you die so much quicker.

So I now play BM has i find my survivability is so much better and this allows me to do more damage as i dont die or have to run away as often as MM.

But it is a personal preference.

Right now MM Hunters are the god spec for raid. Go check out warcraft logs and you can see for yourself how people are doing on fights. They are going to receive a nerf right along with Spriest, though. BM is very capable of clearing 400k DPS on raid bosses and that is completely fine for mythic progression.

This is slightly incorrect, I don't think that BM is easily capable of doing over 400k on some of the bosses. Considering only some of the VERY top players are managing to do that.

I don't disagree with you. It is not easy and you are right the number of BM Hunters clearing 400k vs. MM isn't comparable.

BM is still very capable of doing 400k+ DPS in EN, though. The Killer Cobra build just got better as well since CS now resets KC on cast rather than hitting the target. I was standing closer to the bosses like a melee to get the most out of BW with this build. Now I can be a ranged class again! Lol

I will have to look into this as i always prefered MM up until just before legion when i finally accepted that BM had more survivability than MM.

I just find the initial burst i can open up with beatial wrath, crows and stampede plus dire beast  takes a huge chunk off any enemy before they can even get close to closing the distance,

Will have to look into MM and see about how i can survive longer as i just seem to die to quickly as MM.

Even when i was doing the initial artifact weapon hunt for MM and had to switch to that spec i was so close to dying more often than wheni was BM.

Any Hunter spec is good for survivability. If you are referring to having a pet as BM and that making it easy to survive, they all have the ability to have a pet. Put taunt on, and fly through world content. MM also has stealth that BM does not which is nice.

The OP was verifying that MM is the top raiding spec, which it is right now.
