one thing that might be worth noting is that almost all of the trash can be controlled by death knight's Control Undead

Potentially a bug-sacrifice soul's damage reduction aura appears to persist even if the channel is interrupted by a CC or by killing the protector. If this persists on live servers, protectors need to be handled by either A: bursting them down individually at a higher priority than anything besides interrupting dark mending, B: pulling normally, saving single-target burst and a long stun for the protector before its initial cast can become the channel, or C: CC the protector on pull, mop up his group and then allow sacrifice soul to be cast once he is the only mob. Bolstering vs Raging, the presence or absence of Fortified, and the overall health of mobs in the pack dictated by the mythic level of the run, will determine which method is most useful.

Sorry I just got round to this, but yes it looks like you're right in this. Ideally I'd look to try to stun out the protector's Sacrifice cast, or kill it before it gets a cast off and interrupt the Mending from the councilers around it, I'll put in an amendment for different choices in the pack and push for after the weekend, thanks for bringing it up :)

      Patch 7.2 added several new Warlock Pet glyphs and we're looking at how to get them!
      Glyph of the Shadow Succubus
      There's a succubus standing near Tehd Shoemaker. She's called Syaith. If you're a scribe and /kiss her, you'll get Technique: Glyph of the Shadow Succubus. The trick is she only appears during the World Quest "Where There is a Whip...". You don't need to have Broken Shore World Quests unlocked to get it according to many reports from redditors that were able to find her.

      Technique: Glyph of the Fel Succubus seems to be a random drop from Cathedral of Eternal Night.
      The current version of the Fel Succubus is bugged (thanks to @Plaguestorm for pointing out), which results in a much weaker version of the regular Succubus pet in terms of damage output. It's advised not to use it until the issues get hotfixed.
