"Appear Offline" Option Back in Development?

Recommended Posts

News from the Overwatch side of things as Jeff Kaplan shares the new status of the feature.

Well, with the Quick Join option in WoW hammering home the need for an "appear offline" option, you wouldn't have expected the first update on the matter in 2+ years to come from Overwatch. But, Jeff Kaplan really likes to interact with the fans and keep them updated so we got this little snippet of info and hope recently:

Blizzard LogoJeff Kaplan

We would like to add an "Appear Offline" option to Overwatch. We are in the process of coordinating this with Battle.net and the other game teams. Because our social system is a cross-game system (WoW, Hearthstone, Heroes, SC2, D3) adding this functionality is not trivial for us. I know there has been discussion around this feature for a long time, and things have definitely not moved at a rate which is acceptable, I can assure you we care about the feature and want to figure out how to make it happen.

For your particular issue regarding invites, you can go into the Social Options menu and turn off invites.

Thanks for being patient with us.

Now, this is pretty much exactly the type of message we're used to getting on the subject, like this great announcement from 4 years ago, but the most recent info we could find before this was Lore's tweet on the matter:

So this should mean the issue is back in development and hopefully coming to battle.net "soon", except this time it should be the usual Blizzard soon and not the "never" soon!

I am really looking forward to this feature, really hope they will implement it.

To give the devil his due tho, implementing such a feature is pretty hard, code-wise.

oh dear god yes please, I can't wait for this!!!!

don't get me wrong I love my virtual family, but sometimes I feel like leveling an alt or seeing a different server and I don't want to be bothered by people, if I want to spend 30 minutes walking around thunder bluff that's my business. Plus this way I can still play the game if I decide I don't want to show up to mandatory guild events XD

100% backing this. I love the feature and would love to see it implemented. Sometimes you just want to chill out and have your privacy - doesn't mean you hate everyone!

We're getting a bit of a revamp to our favorite launcher, with a lot more overview over all its aspects, from the games themselves (with the Activision ones thankfully being given a bit less prominence), the friends list and more! And we can all try it out right now!
Check out our BlizzCon 2019 Content Hub for all the latest details!
      Battle.net App Beta (source)
We’ve been hard at work on new features for the Battle.net Desktop App, and we wanted to show you a preview of what we’re developing. Starting today, anyone who’s opted in to test Battle.net updates can try out our beta.

Though we’re improving the look and feel of Battle.net, we also want to keep this preview familiar and easy to use. Here’s what to expect.

The most obvious difference between the beta and its full-release sibling is a refreshed user interface. We’ve heard many of you loud and clear: You want more control over your game navigation, and you’d like your friends and chats to be easily accessible. You’ll also notice that we’ve updated the stories view for each game, so you can see more recent updates and highlights. To see all the updates in the Battle.net beta, check out our patch notes.

If you didn’t sign up to test new versions of Battle.net, but you want to, log into the Battle.net Desktop App, head to the “Beta” menu in "Settings", and opt in to try future patches before they’re officially released.

We’ll continue making the Battle.net App more user-friendly, more informative, and more customizable. We want it to help you connect with your friends and play games quickly and easily.

If you have any thoughts about what would make the app a better experience for you, please use the app forums to send us your feedback.

      We’ll see you in-game!

Struggling to find the perfect gift for a friend, or just hoping to give them the flexibility to choose their own gifts?
We’re expanding our gifting service by allowing you to send Blizzard Balance to your friends, offering you the benefits of retail gift cards in a new and easy-to-use digital format.
Sending Balance gifts is simple: visit the Blizzard Shop, select one of the suggested values—or enter a custom amount, click the “Gift Balance” button, and select a friend.

Blizzard will deliver your gift along with a notification and personalized message directly to your friend, who can then claim the digital gift card balance onto their account.

As with other gifts, you’ll receive an email and a notification in the Blizzard App when a friend sends you Blizzard Balance, informing you that the gift has arrived and is ready to be claimed.
Giving the gift of Blizzard Balance is a fast and easy way to ensure that your friends and family will get the Blizzard product that they want most.
      Happy Gifting!
