Frost Mage looking for a performance improvement

5 posts in this topic

Hi, I'm a frost mage and I'd like some help to improve my mage. I'm a bit of a newbie and just started raiding at the end of the year when I kinda started playing for real. I'm trying to use icy veins rotation, but some times I get too nervous and can't focus on anything but the mechanics so I just do random stuff while I struggle to survive.

Thank you in advance. I'm looking forward to getting to know exactly what I should do to start being less of a newbie.

Hello Luciana,

In your amory, I can see that you are missing a boots and a shoulder enchant. You should apply those. I don't know what "Escrivania: Sem encanto de ombro" means, but you should fix that as well.. :D

Talents, glyphs, reforging are fine. :)

About Jin'rokh:

  • You got Ionization 3 times, but if you follow my guide about heroic mode, you can basically just dance in the water the whole time. http://www.icy-veins.com/forums/topic/1608-throne-of-thunder-mage-style/
  • I cannot see in the log if you stood in the water as much as possible, but if you didn't that is a mistake.
  • However, what I can see is you moved way too much and only used Blazing speed/Blink twice. If you get a ball on you, you should Blink out with it in like the last moments when you can, let the ball explode, than Blazing speed back. Due to the lot of unnecessary movement, you had 46 Frostbolt casts compared to my 92 on the same boss. This is what I see your biggest issue at the moment.
  • Try to familiarize yourself with the rotation. Where your buttons are etc. You cannot afford on Fights like Jin'rokh to look at your keyboard for what to press. Plan ahead. What if I will get a ball on me in a few sec, where I will move? What if we get Ionization soon? What if Lightning storm comes, where should I stand in order to avoid as much balls as possible without moving?
On Horridon, things seem to be fine. However, you should only NT adds that will live long enough for your dot. (Wastewalkers, Frozen Warlords, Horridon etc.) And DPS mainly the big ones, then Horridon. Unless, you see that your raid is really struggling with the adds.

Council: Why didn't your raid use heroism? oO :D You should use Alter Time together with Icy Veins, trinket procs, Heroism, etc. I can see that, you always used it after Icy Veins. I cannot tell this from your logs, but when you get an intellect proc, you should reapply your NT on all targets. :)

Tortos: Again, movement. You have had very low number of FB casts and consequently low number of Ice lances and FFBs. Everything else seems fine.

So, overall your biggest problem, as I can see is that you move too much unnecessarily. You should try to work on that. The topic ("Mage style") I linked above is mainly focusing on Frost mages. (I was a Frost mage when I wrote the guide for most bosses) I would highly recommend you to read it and you will find very useful tips there. /bragging mode off :D

Ty Oltier, I'll work on everything you said. i completely forgot the enchant for those items since I got them the other day.

Jinrokh H: I was afraid I wouldn't be able to dodge the balls during the storm phase, then I chose to save Ice Block.

Council: Heroism was used 1s before the fight I guess.

Tortos: I can't stay still for long. There's always a shell coming for me. Is there a place where they don't go so often?

Ty for the help. I appreciate it.

You are more than welcome! :)

Jin'Rokh. You are doing right about the balls. :) Surviving is more important, than DPSing during that phase, since a dead DPS is no DPS however, you could simply not do any DPS during the lightning phase and purely focus on dodging the balls. Blazing Speed is your great friend! BUT, you should do as much DPS as possible while standing in the water. To do this, it is a bit more important imo, to use the Ice Block+Cold Snap combo there. :)

Tortos. Most of the times, I stand on either side of the room, but NEVER in the middle. Unless, I want to place Frozen Orb on the bats. So basically, hug the wall, when you see a turtle coming towards you, Blazing Speed a bit forward or backwards and you should be fine. :)

We are 10 /10 Heroic Nighthold (10/10 N NH in about 1 1/2 hours) (Providing we arent cutting up and getting yelled at.... by a certain mage in our guild.... who cuts up too.... and won't admit it..... and puts down fake portals.... every week..... and people still take them.... to their death..... really......week..... after week.... to their death...... seriously)
As always we are recruiting raiders and non raiders.
*****GIRLS***** We have a large number of female gamers who do not have to worry about harrasment of any kind...we just will not tolerate this... and our group is like family. Come see for yourself!
Tired of the ridiculous harassment from the opposite sex? You will be safe with us! Mature gamers who do not condone this behaviour!
Our raid schedule is Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday 6:30pm to 9:00pm server time(pst)
We currently have an "Alt" raid for alts and non-progression raiders on Mondays at the same time! MEGA amounts of fun there, alot of us use our mains to carry this raid and help gear these raiders up!
Other guild events include: Herb Drives, Fishing Expo, Mog off! (Best transmog wins), Old Raids for Transmog gear & Mythic Plus runs. We do random guild events with prizes up to and including a FREE MONTH OF WOW! (Mog-Off is going on NOW!!)
We have quite a bit of fun when we get together, as we always have over the years! Come join us and get corrupted (Disclaimer: Infections have been found to be the leading cause of corruption in many raiders) We've always been here and will continue to be here! Of course you will be required to sacrifice a goat or an alliance player once a week to the Horde gods..... You will also be required to laugh and have fun as well! We do have fun!
      So.......COME.......GET.......CORRUPTED!

      Who are we?
Volatile are a group of mostly ex-mythic raiders, looking to get back into mythic raiding and for us to be able to do that we need some more people to fill the gaps. Besides raiding our friendly bunch of members enjoy running mythic+ on daily basis, helping out with world quests among other things. Our discord is usually filled with members for daily banter and weekly fun. If you enjoy all that, you most certainly will enjoy your stay in Volatile.
      Who are we looking for?
We're primarily looking for ranged DPS to fill out the roster. But we are also interested in any dps class with a good healing offspec. Even though your class isn't listed below, don't be afraid of getting in contact with us.
      Tanks - Closed
      Healers - Closed
      Ranged DPS - Open
      Melee DPS - Closed
Overall we're looking for people with a good knowledge of their class/spec who know how to improve their gameplay. Being fairly thick skinned and being able to accept constructive criticism, as well as the occasional jab from some of our more 'outspoken' members, is a big plus too.
      When do we raid?
We raid two times a week as standard, we often have an additional raid day if necessary. See raid times below.
      Thursday: 8pm - 11pm (Server time)
      Monday: 8pm - 11pm (Server time)
      Tuesday: 8pm - 11pm (Additional day)
      Application process:
We believe the best way to get to know if someone is right for the guild is just to have a chat, rather than go through a long application process. So we'll have a chat, look at logs and possibly run some M+ to get to know each other. If you're interested in joining our mythic raid team, contact any of the following:

If you are swedish, looking to raid 2-3 days a week, looking for a very social, fun but still competitive mythic guild, then look no further, we are the guild for you. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us.
      About us:
Geek Squad is a swedish guild that has been around for many years. We are currently focusing on mythic raiding and our goal is to always clear the current content before the release of the next tier. The guild is composed mainly of former hardcore raiders who can't play as much as in our younger days but who still want to play, have fun and have a good progression. Since we raid only 2 days a week we expect our raiders to have a high attendance and to be well prepared for current content.
      Raid schedule:
Wednesday Optional Hc clear: 19-When we are done
      Thursday: 19–22
      Sunday: 18-22
We never extend beyond these raiding hours.
What do we expect from you:
      - Swedish speaker; as the guild solely consists of swedish players we expect you to have a good understanding of the swedish language and be able to communicate on both voicecom and chat.
      - Attendance; as we only raid 2 days a week and keep a tight roster of raiders (not more then few on the bench at time) so being there and available even if not selected for certain boss is very important
      - Maturity; as the average age in Geek Squad is a bit above most guilds we would prefer if you are as well. We are a bunch of guys with families, jobs and real lives outside of the game and we understand all that comes with it. However if you are to commit to raiding with us we want you to be in it for the long haul. We focus on having fun with the game while also maintaining a competitive attitude, we hope you want to be a part of and contribute to that.
      - Social skills; be communicative, enjoy the game, let us know in advance if something is going to interfere with your raiding schedule so that we can plan accordingly. In our own modest opinions we have one of the best guild environments you can be a part of and we want to bring in more people who can positively contribute to that.
      - Know your class inside out and how to perform it to its maximum. Be able to take constructive criticism
      What can we offer you:
      - Stable guild; the guild has been around for a long time and we have no plans to slow down now.
-We always try to bring the players that will give us the most chance of killing a boss on progression fights, this means you will have the same chance as everyone else of competing for a spot.
      - Experienced and motivated players; most of our raiders have played the game for a long time (vanilla/tbc) and are still highly motivated to get the most of the raiding time that we have together. If you are to join us we expect you to do everything you can to further those goals.
      - Occasional alt raids, not mandatory. Totally optional for people who want a little bit more raiding on side with their alts
      PROGRESS:
      Emerald Nightmare: 7/7
      Trial of Valor: 2/3
Nighthold: 8/10 (10/10 HC farming on off days)
      RECRUITMENT:
We are currently looking to extend our roster with 2-3 players and are looking for the following classes:
      Rogue
      Elemental Shaman
      Warlock
      Frost DK
      Balance Druid
We don't have an application form as we feel that is an old and inefficient way of doing recruitment. Instead we focus on interviews as well as going through a bit of logs. We don't expect you to consistently parse in the 90% but at least showing that you know your class well.
As for which classes we are looking for we are quite flexible at the moment as we currently have a good class balance already so we are mainly interested in you as a player rather than your class/specc. With that said we do specifically want a resto shaman and a rogue a bit more than anything else.
If you are interested feel free to contact us.
      How to apply:
To apply contact Ithok#2898, Krebb#2944, kebban#21852 or whisper an officer ingame.
Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you soon!
