Will we soon be able to buy Hearthstone card packs, HotS Heroes or loot boxes from Overwatch with WoW Tokens?

The topic was discussed at BlizzCon and the main aim was to extend the functionality of tokens further. Developers told us we will be able to redeem a token for a small amount of Battle.net Balance.

In the latest patch, strings were found that indicate the possibility to redeem WoW TokenWoW Token not only for game time, but also for Battle.net Balance.

  • TOKEN_COMPLETE_BALANCE_DESCRIPTION (New) - %s will be added to your Battle.net Balance. You will receive a confirmation email shortly.
  • TOKEN_CONFIRM_BALANCE_DESCRIPTION (New) - %s will be added to your Battle.net Balance.
  • TOKEN_CONSUMABLE_DESCRIPTION_30_DAYS_BALANCE (New) - Use: Adds 30 days of game time to your World of Warcraft account or %s to your Battle.net Balance.
  • TOKEN_FILTER_LABEL - Game Time WoW Token
  • TOKEN_REDEEM_BALANCE_BUTTON_LABEL (New) - %s Battle.net Balance
  • TOKEN_REDEEM_BALANCE_DESCRIPTION (New) - Add %s to your Battle.net Balance?
  • TOKEN_REDEEM_BALANCE_ERROR_CAP_FORMAT (New) - |cffff2020You can't choose this option because your Battle.net Balance (%s) is near or at the maximum.|r
  • TOKEN_REDEEM_BALANCE_FORMAT (New) - Current Balance: |cffffffff%s|r|nNew Balance: |cffffffff%s|r TOKEN_REDEEM_BALANCE_TITLE (New) - Battle.net Balance
  • TUTORIAL_TOKEN_GAME_TIME_STEP_2 - 2. Redeem it for 30 days of game|n time. game|ntime.
  • TUTORIAL_TOKEN_GAME_TIME_STEP_2_BALANCE (New) - 2. Redeem it for 30 days of game|ntime (or %s of Battle.net Balance).

This opens up numbers of possibilities

  • We'll be able to buy services, such as Server Transfer, Faction/Race Change or mounts/pets from the store for World of Warcraft.
  • In Hearthstone, we may be able to buy card packs.
  • In Heroes of the Storm, we will be able to purchase Heroes, Skins & mounts.
  • Loot Boxes in Overwatch.

Maybe it will be restricted to character services in World of Warcraft, we don't know yet.

WoW TokenWoW Token prices are rising and if this is true, now would be the ideal time to purchase them. There's a website that constantly monitors token prices for all regions, have a look here. What do you think?

Nothing related to the WoW token seems worth it to me unless you're mega rich on either side. The amount of time it takes to spend the gold you'd buy for money makes it seem like a really silly prospect to me. And if you're not sitting on half a mil or more of gold i don't know why you'd spend a good chunk of your fortune on another month of play when it's under $13/month paying 6/mo at a time.

I know a lot of people use it and love it but for me it never makes sense. Having to buy two or three or even four of them for a character service makes no sense! Actually if each one translates to $15 b/net balance then 200k or so for a 100 boost is actually a great deal.... hmm...

Hoping I can cash in on some mounts/pets out of this. Though having a 'free' service transfer might come in handy.

that's the thing though, there are plenty of people who make tons of gold every month without any effort. I haven't paid for my sub since the introduction of the token and still make about 100k extra each month just through converting my passively earned Blood of Sargeras into Obliterum.

I guess it all comes down to the conversion rate. Anything below $15 would be a bit insulting, since buying the damn thing costs $20 to begin with.

How do you turn just blood of sargeras into obliterum?

Alchemy. I buy brimstone and and felwort cheap on the AH, then make Alchemy Stones and obliterate them. I make about 1.5-3x the gold I spent on materials (excluding the blood which doesn't really have a market value).

I'm pretty sure that part of the reason the WoW Token was implemented was to help prevent people from purchasing gold on-line from hackers and therefore putting their own account(s) at risk of being hacked. Some people are going to buy gold from hackers and have been doing it so why not help save themselves (Blizz) some time and headaches not having to deal with as many hacked accounts by providing a in-game way to purchase gold?

It makes perfect sense to me... What each player does with their cash or gold is entirely up to them :)
