Our stance on ads and ad blockers

Recommended Posts

Hi. I understand ads as a revenue source to keep this site going is important. But as someone who reads on mobile (chrome, Android phone) the ads are becoming untenable. Ads are constantly making the page jump around, if not completely blocking the content and coming back after closing them to be able to see your content.  Sometimes they leave the section to get to a different page, but block the whole article,  others it's a "total page takeover" that when you scroll past the ad, you've also gone past a bunch of the article itself. I'm sure the intention isn't to make the site feel unusable to those who aren't able to financially support directly and so pay with ad views. This, however, is the most ad filled mobile site I've ever experienced and it has begun to feel unusable in this state.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hi!

Thank you for taking the time to report this type of ad. Indeed, despite being there to generate revenue, ads should not block access to the content for users, regardless of whether they have a paid subscription or not. This type of ad has been reported to the ad agency and is being looked into so that it does not run like this, blocking access to content.

I can't give a whole lot of specifics, but I've seen this more than once. I've had Icy Veins open on the Genji build guide for HotS for no longer than 15 minutes and suddenly, AVG force-minimized my game to let me know it closed my connection to a site with a pretty fishy URL. For the safety of others I'm not going to post it here, but I'll PM it to a staff member if I can get a name and a way to do so (just made an acc for this, idk how)
This must be from Icy Veins as if I hit back on it, it returns to the forum every time. It's happened around four times now, and didn't begin happening until I decided to turn off uBlock for Icy Veins.
Precisely, AVG says: "We've safely aborted connection on {URL} because it was infected with URL:Mal."

Hey guys, first of all I love your build guides for WoW and HotS.
As a marketing professional who works with ads all day, I can tell you, you really need to review your ad suppliers. I keep getting auto routed to malware install pages. (Your chrome/phone/computer is infected, install our software to clean it up!) Which then prevent use of the back button to return to your pages. This is extremely frustrating and can be damaging to your users. This happens on both my Android and desktop, and is becoming more frequent. Yours is the only site I visit that does this.
