Patch 7.2: Unlocking New Artifact Traits

Recommended Posts

THNqxGB.jpg

New Artifact traits come with Patch 7.2. The latest development notes shared some details about the questline to unlock them.

  • There's 1 for tanks, 2 for healers and 4 for dps. That's a total of 7 unique quest chains.
  • As a Rogue, you'll have different quest series to upgrade your Assassination, Subtlety, Outlaw Artifacts, but one of those will be shared with let's say Fury Warriors.

Please note that this section contains major spoilers, proceed at own caution.

We'll look at the Artifact upgrade questline through the eyes of the Shaman.

  • Greater Power For Greater Threats
    • You'll need Artifact 35+ to complete it.
  • About Those Greater Threats...
    • You will loot Gilded Scroll CaseGilded Scroll Case from mobs across the Broken Shore. Mine dropped from a jailer. You need to take it to the Council of the Six in Dalaran. It involves demons and a vrykul prophecy.
  • Scrolls of the Faldrottin
  • Away From Prying Eyes
    • You meet the Council and all of you teleport to talk in private about the enemy and the vryul writings.
  • In Dire Need
  • Fate of the Tideskorn
    • The next step is to find the vrykul involved in this. The first stop is Suramar. In search for allies, you are told to search Jandvik for the vrykul mentioned in the scrolls.
  • You will be talking to different NPCs and Yngvild the Watcher will finally be able to tell you about a wandering shieldmaiden that came through just recently and set up a camp outside of town. You are sent to check on her.
  • The Reluctant Queen
    • You meet Sigryn and join her as you request an audience with Eyir. She's Skovald's daughter. Odyn himself ordered the assassination of her mother and she turns into a demon at the end of the storyline where you kill her brother, who succumbed to fel too.
    • You join Sigryn and help her combat assaults until you meet up with Eyir.
  • To Silence the Bonespeakers
    • You'll help Sigryn claim the throne, but there are two rivals - Runeseer Faljar of the Bonespeakers and Jarl Velbrand of the Drekirjar. You travel a lot and need down her rivals.
  • To Tame the Drekirjar
  • The Forgotten Heir
    • Sigryn finds out her brother lives and you are told to find Torvald in Vrekt (a cave near where you complete the Falcosaur World Quest in Stormheim). He tells her of "their father (Skovald) feeding them the fel". You kill her brother.
  • Unanswered Questions
    • "My brother's words still haunt me, though if Eyir knows who ordered my family killed, I deserve to know it."
    • Sigryn finds out that Odyn ordered the assassination of her mother as he feared that the God-King's heirs would offer the Tideskorn into the hands of the Legion. He decreed that the lineage of Skovald be ended... in blood.
  • The Gates Are Closed
    • Sigryn succumbs to the fel and wants to confront Odyn to avenge her mother, but he will close the Gates of Valor when he becomes aware of her assault. You need to go to Dalaran and get help from Khadgar.
    • In Dalaran, you're offered to raise your weapon and you unlock the new Artifact traits.

We're taking a closer look at the item level of rewards from Delves that you will find in the Great Vault in the War Within!
Delves are short scenarios or mini-dungeons where you must complete various objectives in two stages and defeat a boss to get to the treasure room. They come in 11 tiers and they will also grant you items in the Great Vault, which is fantastic news for anyone that doesn't like dungeons or raids!
Delve Tiers 1, 2, 3 are unlocked by default for everyone and those tiers will be available until Season 1 launches on September 10. When Season 1 launches, you can unlock Delve Tiers 4-11. Higher tiers are obviously more difficult, but offer better rewards. You must clear the previous tier to unlock a new tier. For example, clearing a Tier 5 Delve without dying 5 times will unlock Tier 6 for you. The Great Vault item level is capped at Delve Tier 8, so the only point in completing Tier 9-11 are achievements.
Thanks to rosemansion222, we have the exact item level of rewards from the Great Vault in the War Within Season 1, let's dive in!
      Delve Tier Item Level of Great Vault Loot 1-2 584 (Veteran 1/8) 3 587 (Veteran 2/8) 4 597 (Champion 1/8) 5 603 (Champion 3/8) 6 606 (Champion 4/8) 7 609 (Hero 1/6) 8+ 616 (Hero 3/6)

Special Assignments in the War Within are endgame quests where you need to complete three world quests to unlock a special task that rewards you with a loot cache and other items.
On the Isle of Dorn map, there's a Special Assignment called Cinderbee Surge, which unlocks only after you complete three quests in the zone. You can find Special Assignments in all four Khaz Algar zones.

Once you meet the requirements, you can start the special assignment in the zone.

These tasks are often very challenging because they involve defeating Level 80 Elites in densely populated areas. My Level 80 hunter with Item Level 600 died about four times, even with two pets, so you might want to use the Group Finder to invite other players and complete these assignments faster.
For example, I had to kill bees in areas where attracting additional enemies would lead to certain death.

      Special Assignment Rewards
Completing a special assignment grants you 200 reputation points for the zone and a Seasoned Adventurer's Cache. This weekly cache contains upgrade materials (crests and Valorstones), gold, and Coffer Key Shards for opening treasure chests at the end of delves. The first two weekly caches will also include a piece of Adventurer gear.

The spellbook has been redesigned in the War Within update, but not everyone likes the new UI. Here’s why.
Starting with the War Within pre-patch on July 23, this is what the spellbook in World of Warcraft will look like.

With no resize option implemented for the spellbook, the main complaint is that the new design takes up the entire screen.
There’s only one button to resize it, and even then, the single tab still dominates the screen. If only the background were translucent, so you could see what's happening with your character.

What do you think of the new design?
