The official 7.2 Patch Notes were updated with latest PTR changes. Note that they are preliminary and don't include every single detail. What's worth highlighting is changes to Professions and Dungeons as well as new Mythic+ affixes.

World of Warcraft 7.2 PTR Patch Notes

Patch 7.2 is now available for testing on the Public Test Realms (PTR). Participating on the Public Test Realms allows you to test a patch before it is released on live realms. Once you've had a chance to try things out, visit our PTR Discussion 7.2 forum to discuss the patch. To report issues or errors, use the in-game Submit Bug feature (found under Game Menu -> Help -> Submit Bug) or by visiting the PTR Bug Report 7.2 forum.

  • More features are coming! New information for 7.2 features that are still in-development will be added soon.
  • Please keep in mind that the notes below are not final, and details may be subject to change before the release of Patch 7.2.
  • Not all content listed in the PTR Patch Notes may be available for testing. Content may have a limited test window.

New Features

The Broken Shore

Return to the front lines of the Burning Legion’s invasion in this new Scenario. Complete it to unlock a new questing hub with World Quests that make up a new Emissary and faction: Legionfall.

Join in a new region-wide, cross-faction effort to construct buildings to fight against the Legion’s stronghold.

New Dungeon: The Cathedral of Eternal Night

The upper chambers of the Tomb of Sargeras were once a place of worship to Elune. Since the Legion's invasion, fel minions have desecrated this holy place, twisting it into their own image. Now, this site will host a battle that could turn the tide of the invasion. While the Armies of Legionfall engage the fel army directly, a small group of heroes infiltrates the upper reaches of the cathedral in a desperate hope to return the Aegis of Aggramar to its resting place. Inside this new dungeon, you’ll face:

  • Agronox - This ancient served the night elves priestesses of the Temple of Elune, tending the beautiful Hanging Gardens. But after the malevolence of the Legion infected the Cathedral, the guardian absorbed fel energy through his roots. Now the twisted Agronox spreads corruption throughout the sanctuary he once protected, believing he has finally achieved his ideal state.
  • Thrashbite the Scornful - Smashspite's detestable brother, Thrashbite has been dispatched to wipe out the mortals entering the cathedral's grand library. The dimwitted mo'arg lacks any respect for knowledge or learning, feeling petty satisfaction as he crashes through ancient artifacts and tramples priceless tomes.
  • Domatrax - With the Aegis of Aggramar socketed back into its cradle, Domatrax leads an onslaught of demons to destroy the relic.
  • Mephistroth - With the forces of Azeroth pushing against his front line, Mephistroth has fallen back to the Cathedral of Eternal Night, where he will employ all his cunning to ensure the heroes fail in securing the Aegis of Agrammar.

Class Campaigns

Every class continues its campaign to unify in the war effort. Your Class Hall is the base from which you will embark on a new quest chain, find a new potential Follower, and discover new class-specific World Quests. All new epic class mounts are now available. Complete the new class mount quests to obtain yours.

Demon Assaults

The Burning Legion is assaulting Azeroth with renewed determination. Look for Broken Isles zones to come under attack, fight to drive the Legion back, and defend the lands of your new allies.

Pet Battle Dungeon

Something nefarious is going on in the world of pet battles, and it’s up to you to look into it. If you have at least one level 25 battle pet, speak to Breanni in Dalaran to get directions to this new scenario.

PvP Brawls

A series of new twists on popular player-versus-player activities are on the way. Starting with “Southshore vs. Tarren Mill”, “Gravity Lapse”, and “Warsong Scramble”, PvP Brawls offer a variety of mode, rules, and scenic changes to the usual Battleground gameplay. Look for the Brawl option in the Group Finder (default hotkey: i) Player vs. Player tab, under the Casual selection.

Updated Features

Transmogrification Sets

A new ‘Sets’ tab in the Appearances UI is where you’ll find this new way of tracking item sets from previous Raids, PvP Seasons, and more.

Flying in the Broken Isles

Take your final steps to complete the Broken Isles Pathfinder, Part TwoBroken Isles Pathfinder, Part Two achievement to unlock flying in the Broken Isles.

Class Combat Updates

The launch of Legion included many updates to class animations, sounds, and spell effects. These will continue in Patch 7.2 with updates to Hunters, Death Knights, and Balance Druids. More are on the way!

Legion Reputation Updates

Reputation earned beyond Exalted will now contribute towards earning additional rewards from Broken Isles faction emissaries.

New World Quests

In addition to the new Legionfall and class-specific World Quests, a number of new and interesting World Quests are now offered by NPCs across the Broken Isles.

Tab Targeting

In Patch 7.2, tab targeting should feel more natural. While in combat, you will no longer be able to accidentally tab to a target that is out of combat with you. Furthermore, you’re no longer able to tab to a target that neither your character nor your camera can see. This is very much a work-in-progress, and your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Professions

  • The Obliterum Forge should now always be available to players, and requires no questline.
  • All item level 815 crafted end-game gear will now be crafted at item level 835.
  • All existing items between item levels 815-830 will retain their existing item level. The first application of ObliterumObliterum will bring them up to 840, and the ObliterumObliterum cap has been increased to iLvl 875.
  • Some World Quests that are related to Professions now reward 1 skill point in their associated Profession.
  • Archaeology
    • You can now get Artifact Power from Archaeology.
    • New Elite digsites have been discovered in the Broken Isles.
    • All enemies summoned by Archaeology can now be killed by multiple nearby players.
  • Cooking
    • Nomi now provides Prepared IngredientsPrepared Ingredients as part of his work orders, which can be combined to create up to 10 servings of a random recipe known by the player.

User Interface

  • You can now assign a specialization to an equipment set in the Equipment Manager.
  • An “Open All” button has been added to the mailbox.
  • You can now preview an ensemble set by CTRL-clicking it.
  • Spellbook
    • Spells that haven’t been moved to an action bar are highlighted in the spellbook.
    • Mousing over a spell highlights it on your action bar, making it easier to locate.
    • Pet spells can now be dragged onto the player action bar.
  • Quick Join
    • Auto Accept: A setting has been added to allow friends and guild members to instantly join your queues without a confirmation. This setting is located in Interface Options -> Social.
    • Group tooltips now show the available roles and if auto accept is enabled.
    • Right click a Quick Join group to whisper a member of that group.

Classes

  • Priest
    • Shadow
      • Mental FortitudeMental Fortitude (Artifact Trait) shield cannot exceed damage absorbed of 4% of player total health (was 8%), and now correctly calculates healing from Vampiric TouchVampiric Touch.
  • Rogue
    • Assassination
      • Urge to KillUrge to Kill now causes VendettaVendetta to grant 60 energy, plus an additional 60 energy over 2 seconds.
  • Warlock
    • Affliction
      • Refreshing Reap SoulsReap Souls will no longer overwrite the current buff’s duration with a new one. The new duration will now be added to the existing duration, up to a maximum duration of 60 seconds.
      • Reap SoulsReap Souls now has a 5 second cooldown.
        • Developers’ note: Previously, casting Reap SoulsReap Souls at 5 stacks (which would grant 25 seconds of the buff) with 20 seconds currently left on the buff would just overwrite your old 20 second buff with a 25 second buff. Now, in this case it will increase the buff duration to 45 seconds.
  • Warrior
    • ChargeCharge (and InterceptIntercept) now deals damage on arrival, and its snare begins after you hit your target.

Dungeons

  • Enemies’ damage and health have been increased for all Heroic and Mythic dungeons, and the item levels of gear found in Legion Dungeons has been increased.
  • All Random Heroic dungeons now requires 825 item level to queue.
  • Lower Karazhan and Upper Karazhan have been added to the Random Legion Heroic list in Dungeon Finder.
  • The Arcway and Court of Stars have been added to the Random Legion Heroic list in Dungeon Finder.
  • Mythic Keystone Dungeons
  • Added 60 seconds to the Black Rook Hold timer.
  • Killing Cove Seagulls should now add Enemy Forces credit.
  • New Affix: Bursting (level 4)
    • When slain, non-boss enemies explode, causing all players to suffer 10% of their maximum health in damage over 4 seconds. This effect stacks.
  • New Affix: Fel Explosives (level 7)
    • Creatures have a chance to summon an Explosive Orb at a nearby location that will explode, inflicting damage of 50% of the player’s maximum health.
  • New Affix: Quaking (level 7)
    • Periodically, players will Quake, inflicting damage of 20% of the player’s maximum health and interrupting spell casts of themselves and nearby allies.
  • New Affix: Grievous (level 7)
    • While below 90% health, players are afflicted with Grievous Wound.
  • The Overflowing affix has been removed.
  • The Bolstering affix range has been reduced to 30 yards (was 45 yards).
    • Developers’ notes: The intent of this change is to allow players more opportunities for crowd control.
  • Necrotic Rot will now expire after leaving combat. Duration reduced to 8 seconds (was 10 seconds).
    • Developers’ notes: This should eliminate the situation where players were waiting for Necrotic to fall off after killing enemies, and it should give tanks more opportunities for resets while in combat.
  • Skittish threat reduction has been lowered to 75% (was 80%).
  • Fortified damage bonus lowered to 30% (was 40%).
  • Tyrannical damage bonus lowered to 15% (was 20%).
  • Sanguine radius increased to 8 yards.
  • Mythic Keystones can now direct you to Lower Karazhan, Upper Karazhan, and the Cathedral of Eternal Night.
  • Artifact Power rewards for Mythic Keystone dungeons have been adjusted:
    • Longer dungeons, such as Halls of Valor, now award a proportionately higher amount of Artifact Power.
    • Shorter dungeons, such as Maw of Souls, now award a proportionately lower amount of Artifact Power.
    • Artifact Power bonuses have been added to your weekly chest rewards. These increase based on the highest level Mythic Keystone you completed.

Items

  • Set tokens for all raids from Serpentshrine to Siege of Orgrimmar have been updated to provide loot for your spec on right-click, in the same manner as newer raid set tokens. The vendor functionality of these items has not been changed.

Player versus Player

  • Players now deal 40% less damage to other players.
  • Players now have 25% less Stamina in PvP instances.
  • Players now have 20% more Agility, Intellect, and Strength in PvP instances.
  • The honor requirements for leveling through the honor system have been reduced.
    • The amount of honor required to advance from 1 to 50 at Prestige 0 has been reduced by 50%.
  • In instanced PvP (arenas, battlegrounds, and Ashran), Artifacts now grant a minimum Stamina increase to all players. This minimum is equivalent to the purchase of 36 points, one of which is the trait which grants 10% Stamina.

Quests

  • Broken Isles World Quest rewards now scale to item level 860 (was item level 845).

We’ll outline more changes and additions to the World of Warcraft Patch 7.2 PTR in the coming weeks.

The tab targeting one is a blessing

Also we know Kiljaeden is super serious now because he has legs!!!!! We cannot underestimate the huge buff legs give bosses. Looking at you rag

This makes me super happy.  I've never really had an issue dropping stacks in combat if necessary, but the expiration should shave off quite a few seconds with a bit less effort and wasted time.

yeah its a fun one, my first legendary on frost DK was legendary helm which aside from being a decent stat stick was considered garbage, now its BIS :)

      Battle for Azeroth Season 4 begins, January 21 and includes an all-new Affix—Awakened— for Mythic Keystone Dungeons, Heroic Difficulty Darkshore Warfront, and more.
      Mythic Keystone Dungeons Season 4
      Season 4 has a new affix—Awakened. While the Awakened affix is active, players will discover obelisks throughout the dungeon, which will pull players through the veil to the shadowy world of Ny’alotha. There, players will confront a powerful servant of N’Zoth which they must defeat or the servant will join forces with the final boss in the instance. Once the lieutenant has been taken down, the party will be returned to their regular reality in the location they’re currently standing in.
      Reward Updates
      Item levels of rewards from level 120 Normal, Heroic, and Mythic dungeons have been increased by 30 and can now be corrupted by N’Zoth. Baseline rewards are now item-level 400 from Normal, 415 from Heroic, and 430 from non-Keystone Mythic dungeons. During the first week of Season 4, rewards from end-of-run chests will be capped at item-level 445 for Mythic Keystone at +6 difficulty or PvP Rank 2, and the reward cache will contain a Season 3 reward. With the start of the second week of Season 4, the weekly cache will not be affected by the cap, and will reward Season 4 items at higher item levels.

      PvP Season 4
      Season 4 brings new player-versus-player content including the new Teeming Islands Brawl. This large-scale battle brings together two teams of 10 on an island overflowing with powerful creatures. This Brawl brings an additional challenge to the shores of PvP Island Expeditions by increasing the total amount of players from six to 20 on the biggest Islands (Havenswood and Jorundall). Participants can earn two new mounts—the Vicious White Bonesteed (Horde) and Vicious White Warsaber (Alliance) and the highest-rated players will unlock the new Corrupted Gladiator’s Proto-Drake mount.
      Reward Updates
      Item level rewards in Random Battlegrounds have also been increased by 30. During the first week of Season 4, end-of-match rewards will be capped at item-level 445. This will require Challenger rank to earn. Beginning in week 2, Challenger rank rewards will be item-level 460.

      Blizzard have clarified that the mail issues with the Auction House won't affect players in the long-term, aka you don't have to worry your mails will expire. They're working on fixing the newly found issues and it will probably take them a few days. You can check out all the recently added issues at the bottom.

      Hello.
      We’d like to clarify that nothing has been lost as a result of this issue. This is an issue with mail delivery, and we’re working to fix it. We currently expect that the fix is going to take a few days.
      During that time, the mail you can’t see is not subject to 30 days expiry. It will only begin counting down from 30 days once we’ve fixed it so that you can see it and interact with it in your inbox.

      Here are some additional issues that we have identified and are actively investigating:
      When items are returned in the mail from the Auction House, it can incorrectly contain more stacks than the displayed maximum of 16. This makes it look like some items are not being delivered. You will know if you are experiencing this if a mail appears empty but can’t be deleted. To retrieve the missing items in this scenario, take out all 16 of the displayed stacks, then close and reopen the mailbox to see the rest (you may need to repeat this several times). If a character buys commodities in high quantities, they may not be able to access their mail. The favorites list is not saving properly. We have resolved some of the issues causing the “Internal Auction Error” to pop up, but it is still occurring and we are continuing to look into it.

      As some players have already noticed, we got confirmation today that War Mode bonuses for Visions of N'Zoth daily quests have been disabled since Thursday. This was done due to a separate issue that will hopefully be resolved in the coming days, when the bonus will be restored.

      We’d like to confirm that, yes, the expected War Mode bonus for Visions of N’Zoth Daily Quests has been disabled since Thursday.
      This was necessary for our team to work to quickly fix a different issue. Our top priority right now is addressing these concerns, and we expect to restore all intended functionality in the coming days.
      War Mode and the bonuses granted by War Mode in all other content are unaffected.

      We've seen plenty of fan art imagining new class sets, especially since each class is no longer getting their own unique ones, but today we're going back to basics as redditor Anna_Richter took the first ever WoW raid sets and made them her own.

      With Molten Core still in full swing in Classic, these actual items are still very much relevant (not to mention as transmogs in retail), but Blackwing Lair is coming in under a month so Anna might want to go for Tier 2 next! With so many sets to choose for and it taking a fair amount of time to make these she's actually already mentioned what her next projects related to this will be:
      In any case we're definitely looking forward to seeing more from Anna, whichever her choice of set may be - whether it's tier 6, or the wrong choice.

      A big batch has arrived today with fixes to the Auction House, Azerite Powers and Corruption effects, increases to rare spawns, a nerf to the Defragmentation Punchcard in PvP, Vulpera and Mechagnome issue fixes and the usual large amount of quest tweaks and fixes.

      Fixed an issue where a dead player's Damage Over Time effect could cause the raid to fail The Best of Us . Auction House
      Bids now display properly in the sell tab for caged pets. Fixed a bug causing the quantity field to be empty when selling a non-commodity. The “Uncollected” filter now filters owned battle pets as expected. The “Upgrades Only” filter now correctly applies to wands and shields. The "Usable" filter now filters profession-restricted items and owned toys as intended. Purchasing an entire listing now displays the item count in the seller's auction list. Players can now buyout an auction for which they are already the high bidder. Fixed a bug that caused some mail from the Auction House to exclude expected attached gold. Creatures and NPCs
      The Gaze of N'Zoth can now only be faction tapped while in War Mode. Onyx Warserpent’s Lightning Pool no longer hits players harder than intended. Taijing the Cyclone now resets properly. The spawn frequency of several Rare enemies in Uldum and Vale of Eternal Blossoms Assault areas has been increased. Items
      Azerite Essences Fixed an issue that caused Breath of the Dying’s minor damage effect at Rank 1 or 2 to benefit from the Rank 3 increased proc chance against low health targets. Corruption Effects Fixed an issue preventing Twilight Devastation from triggering on ranged attacks. Infinite Stars damage reduced by 25% at all Corruption levels. Player versus Player
      The red punchcard Subroutine: Defragmentation now heals for 50% in PvP situations. Fixed an issue causing Breath of the Dying to have an incorrectly-lowered cooldown when used against player pets in PvP. Races
      The Vulpera Holy Relic Trick now heals for the correct amount. Fixed a bug preventing Mechagnomes and Vulpera from using ghost flying mounts when dead in appropriate areas. Fixed an expected sound effect on the voices of Pandaren Death Knights. Quests
      Vulpera can once again proceed during the Tirisfal Glades quest, "A Scarlet Letter ". Players who are outside of the Vision while their party defeats Ysedra the Darkener now receive quest credit for “Deeper Into the Darkness ”. Fixed a bug that could prevent Magni Bronzebeard from spawning as expected in “The Halls of Origination ”. It is again possible to turn in “Ancient Crypt Key ”. Titan Artifacts should now appear for the quest “Unearthed Artifacts ” regardless of the completion status of the Assault bar-fill objective. Assault daily quests such as “The Sun King's Chosen ” or “The Strongest Among Them ” now require 3 Rare kills (was 4). Rare kills now provide more credit for Assaults. User Interface
      Guild and community setting dropdowns no longer appear when they are grayed out. Visions
      Players should now find their Sanity draining more quickly after an extended period within Vision of the Twisting Sands and Vale of Eternal Twilight. Fixed an issue that was preventing an iLvl 430 item from dropping when you had completed two objectives and the boss in a Horrific Vision. This item will be awarded to players on their next run if they satisfy these conditions.
