Relinquished/Dauntless token system detailed, plus more raid and stress testing coming up this week.

Another week, another PTR development notes post! This time there's not so much new content added, but the Relinquished (and now Dauntless) token system is being refined and we get a bit of a longer explanation on the intent of it. There's also going to be some more raid testing and another stress test!

You can check out the raid test schedule for the week right here (it's all Mythic!).

This week, we’re still focused primarily on stability and raid testing, as well as finding as many bugs as possible, as we continue to make adjustments and tweaks to 7.2 content.

You’ll see the return of Thaumaturge Vashreen to the Broken Shore, once again selling tokens that can be exchanged for gear. Those items still need a little work before they’re ready for testing, but we wanted to provide some extra context on what to expect from them:

The Dauntless tokens are similar to the gear tokens that were available through the Timeless Isle or Tanaan Jungle in previous expansions, and have the same overall intent: as catch-up gear for alts or newer characters. For Legion, we’ve extended that general concept with the Relinquished tokens. These will always reward gear with a higher item level than the Dauntless tokens, and sometimes, you’ll receive a piece of dungeon, raid, or PvP gear instead. Our basic intent is for you to use these to shore up “weak spots” in your characters gear, but in rare circumstances, it can even give a Legendary for that slot, according to your loot specialization. That’ll be very uncommon, and the fastest/most reliable way to get a Legendary will still be through other content, but if there’s one in particular that you really want, buying these tokens might be a good use of your Nethershards.

Note that the actual cost of these items hasn’t yet been determined, and their contents aren’t bug-free, but we hope to have them ready for testing in next week’s push.

You may also notice that the line “May contain a Legendary item” has been removed from the tooltip for these tokens. This is only a tooltip change; their actual chance to grant a Legendary has not changed. This is more to avoid confusion than anything else, particularly for the sort of player who doesn’t keep up with the news on the forums or fansites. Realistically, these tokens can be nearly anything from the Broken Isles, so it seemed unnecessary to call out Legendaries specifically in the tooltip.

Lastly, we’re planning to organize another Broken Shore stress test sometime in the coming few days, and looking into ways to make it a bit more exciting this time around. Keep an eye out for more details as soon as those plans are finalized.

Happy testing!

With a fair amount of game adaptations heading over to Netflix in TV show form, the most recent and significant being the Witcher, Str1der has taken it upon himself to make a trailer for what a World of Warcraft show might look like. With the Warcraft movie not having done so well and having somewhat deviated from the original lore (although, so has the game itself at this point), it would really be a nice thing to see all the ancillary content featured in novels and comics etc. brought together in TV show format.
The trailer is pretty well put together, however the choice of the song "Human" is clearly Alliance-favoritism and wholly inappropriate, therefore we all need to boycott it!!11 (For those of you that are sensitive to the faction allegiances, well, first of all, what's wrong with you, and second, that was a joke.)
My personal favorite is when Illidan shows up and the song goes "some people have real problems", which is perhaps one of the most accurate song to scene pairings in the history of trailers.
So, what do you think of the trailer and the idea of a Netflix WoW show? Should it focus on present day Azeroth and follow the expansions to give us a better understanding of the characters we interact with, or would you prefer it to start from the very beginning and eventually catch up?

World of Warcraft's third expansion was released on this day 8 years ago.
Deathwing transformed Azeroth forever as we know it. In Cataclysm, the whole world burned under the shadow of his wings and the expansion went live on December 7, 2010.
Patch 4.1: Rise of the Zandalari
The first major content patch of the expansion was released on April 26, 2011 and brought the reopening of Zul'Aman and Zul'Gurub. While Amani War Bear was removed from the game, players can still obtain a recolor of the mount (Amani Battle Bear) to this day.
Patch 4.2: Rage of the Firelands
The second Cataclysm patch went live on June 28, 2011 and included Firelands, a new raid with Ragnaros as the final boss, a new daily quest hub (Molten Front) and Dungeon Journal. Interesting loot from the Firelands includes Smoldering Egg of Millagazor that has a small chance to drop from Heroic Ragnaros, Flametalon of Alysrazor which drops from Alysrazor and Fandral's Flamescythe from Staghelm that gives Druid cats a fiery appearance.
      Patch 4.3: Hour of Twilight
The final major content patch went live on November 29, 2011. Three new 5-player dungeons were released (Hour of Twilight, End Time, Well of Eternity). In terms of system updates, Raid Finder, Void Storage and Transmogrification were added to the game. The final raid Dragon Soul featured Deathwing as the final boss. Interesting drops include Reins of the Blazing Drake, Life-Binder's Handmaiden off Deathwing and Experiment 12-B from Ultraxion.
