Team Composition in Quick Match received tweaks recently to make matches more balanced.

What has changed?

  • The number of stealth Heroes on either teams is limited to 1
    • This applies to Nova, Samuro, Valeera & Zeratul
  • Warriors are now categorized as Bruisers or Tanks
    • All existing Warriors are considered Tanks (Sonya, Varian & Zarya are exceptions, categorized as Bruisers)
  • Tassadar and Tyrande now fall into the category with Abathur, Medivh and Zarya - Heroes that provide sustain that are not your ordinary "solo support"

Greetings, Heroes!

If you’ve been playing Quick Match in the past week, you may have noticed some differences in your recent team compositions. We’ve implemented some changes to the matchmaker to further define some of the role-flexing Heroes to make more consistent and balanced matches. Check out the details below:

  • We’re limiting the number of stealth characters you can have on a team to 1. This includes Nova, Samuro, Valeera, and Zeratul.
  • When creating Quick Match games, Warriors are now categorized as either Bruisers or Tanks. All existing Warrior Heroes will be considered Tanks, with the exceptions of Sonya and Zarya. Varian will also be considered a Bruiser, even though he is not part of the Warrior class.
  • We’re splitting out Tassadar and Tyrande from the rest of the “Healer” support pool. They’re going into a category with Medivh, Zarya, and Abathur as heroes that provide “sustain” to a team, without being a typical solo-support. These roles will be mirrored in games where they are the only “sustain” Heroes, but can also be placed onto teams with healers.

Note: Please keep in mind that you may still rarely encounter games that do not fit these new rules if queue times are exceptionally long.

Once you’ve had a chance to play some Quick Match games under these new rules, be sure to let us know what you think in the comments below. Thanks!

So... does that 1 stealth per Team thing also apply to a full party? If you pick Nova then the other stealth Heroes would be locked for the rest of your group.

I'm kinda happy with this. The amount of times I go Zeratul and then there's Nova and Valeera on my team too and the opponents have a Tass or Chromie is ridiculous xD Though I find it strange that they're separating tanks from not-so-tanks, I'm happy about that too, sick of someone on my team being Sonya and then the other team have Etc or Stitches. Though it might ruin fun times with parties (such as all stealth and Abathur xD) so that might be annoying.

That's what I'm wondering too; be nice if they still let parties do it. But since it says they've changed the matchmaker, it might be fine as far as parties are concerned. As in if you're Zeratual, and you're solo, it won't match you with other stealth but if you're in a party, I think you and your "friend" can choose Nova and Zeratul but it won't match you with Valeera or Samuro ;3

I am not sure it will make QM more balanced but I hope so and I'm glad blizz did something about it. The last few weeks in QM have been very annoying with silly team compositions ;)
