A look into what it's going to take to get the new appearances, including the solo challenge and its cost.

Blizzard's official preview of the new artifact appearances has arrived, but it's only a taste, while we have the full list and images of all appearances right here! They also explain what it will take to actually get the new looks, including the new solo challenge, which will cost you Nethershards per attempt after the first.

Artifact Weapons have been proven to be powerful tools against the Burning Legion. With the release of patch 7.2, we are not only adding an Artifact questline to unlock new traits, but we’re also adding a new Artifact challenge appearance. But, you’re going to have to earn it — the hard way.

‘You Must Be This Tall’

To be able to take on the challenge before you and earn your new Artifact appearance, you’re going to need to meet a few requirements first. You must be level 110, purchase all 35 of the ranks for your Artifact weapon, and complete the questline to unlock access to the four new traits available with patch 7.2.

A Towering Achievement

Returning to the Broken Shore has a lot to offer including new structures that open additional benefits for those adventuring through the island. For those who plan to earn their Challenge Appearance the Mage Tower is going to be an important building to invest your Legionfall War Supplies in. When the tower is active and you’ve met all of the requirements, a new quest will become available to you. This quest is a continuation of your Class Order campaign and will ask you to take care of a little unfinished business via a solo encounter. You’ll need to face a powerful foe to earn your new appearance — but it’s not going to be easy.

This encounter will provide players with the opportunity to show their mastery of their class with a solo skill challenge. There are 7 different challenges available which are tailored to your class role. Each role’s challenge will vary slightly whether it’s healing a group of support npcs, tanking and keeping your group npcs from being killed, or straight dps to kill the boss. There’s no gear requirement, but you’re going to want to invest in getting the best gear you possibly can if you’re going to walk out of the encounter with a brand-new look for your weapon.

The Cost of Success

The first time you get the quest, you’ll be able to enter the encounter for free. If you fail—and there’s a good chance you will—the next (and the next) time is going to cost. If you’ve been active within the Broken Shore, you’ll have started to accumulate Nethershards. You can use these Nethershards to purchase additional chances at the encounter. The Mage Tower is active for three days before it’s destroyed, so time is limited. If you’re determined to give it a good run each time the tower is available, you might want to spend some time under the shadow of the Sentinax to gather as many Nethershards as you can. Success with earning your Artifact weapon’s Challenge Appearance is going to cost — but bragging rights will be yours when you do succeed.

Get the Look

These appearances have been inspired by previous class questlines that led to weapons like Anathema/Benediction, and Rhok’delar. No grouping is required—or allowed—and completing the challenge will reward a truly distinctive appearance.

Good luck out there! You’re going to need it.

I like that they are basically doing the warlock green fire thing for everyone, I just hope its not as challenging. Clearly they expect us to fail a couple times, but hopefully not hundreds like my green fire did >_> There is challenging and then there is soul shattering, challenge please

I do quite like that they're allowing us to unlock more appearances for the artifact weapons, but I sorta feel a little lethargic to go through all this trouble when there's a huge possibility that we'll lose the artifact weapon in the next expansion. If I'm wrong, and I really do hope that I am and instead the weapons are here to stay, then I'll go all out and unlock everything.

At the beginning of legion they said all artifact appearances you unlock will be usable in the future as transmog options :)

Ahhh, ok then, I must've missed that. In which case, that's not so bad. Thanks a lot :)

yup :D

also i must note the outlaw one confuses my soul. it's very strange to see someone dual wielding rapiers, while not completely absent from history, it certainly looks funny from a fencing perspective :)

Converge has been around since WoW Vanilla and has been raiding together since Molten Core; most of our members have been playing together for years. In its older days, when most of us where young, we were more raid focused and demanded a lot from our members. Over the years we had to adjust our playtime and priorities with a growing list of RL responsibilities and are now a two day raiding guild; we had to cut our total hours spent playing WoW but we still remain just as competitive and result oriented.

      Mandatory reading.
Basics: be ilvl 890+; 52+ points in MS Artifact Weapon.
Raiding 101: be able to execute/avoid fight mechanics; communicate in English and use a microphone.
We raid twice a week, a total of 8 hours; attendance of 90% is mandatory. We require you to function at 100% from the second the raid starts all the way to its end; if you cannot commit to a raiding schedule and be online on time this is not a guild for you.
Currently we are trying to build up our roster to start Mythics.

Another relatively short batch today, we have the long awaited change to Writhing Essences, that are now a currency instead of a quest item, so the excess won't be disappearing after you upgrade a legendary anymore! There's also some ToS Sisters of the moon melee tweaks, some PvP fixes and more.
And there's also this tweet remind you how hotfixes get implemented:
Placeholder for tweet 877958178155094017 June 22 (source)
      Classes
Rogue Fixed a bug where Second Shuriken was not activating correctly. Dungeons and Raids
Tomb of Sargeras Sisters of the Moon Sisters of the Moon can now be hit by melee attacks from farther away. Holiday
Fixed a bug that prevented players from receiving credit for the quests "Torch Tossing" and "More Torch Tossing". Player versus Player
Fixed a bug that prevented the "3v3 Weekly Quest" from properly awarding an elite gladiator item when the player had a previous week's PVP rating of 1900+. Warlock Demonic Gateway's debuff will now show the correct duration remaining when the Warlock has the Gateway Mastery honor talent. Quests
For “Unsettled Power”, Writhing Essences now drop as a currency, instead of a quest item. Entering your Class Hall or Dalaran will convert your existing progress to the new currency. Previous hotfixes.

We've put up a video guide for the Sun Darter Hatchling pet with commentary on how to solve the riddle within Caverns of Consumption. Grab the pet if you haven't already!
Sun Darter Hatchling can be looted once per character. If you have multiple runs, you can sell it for Gold. By this time, the reagents from Auction House should be very well worth the investment, but it still depends on your server's economy.
      Prerequisites
Several consumables are needed to complete the riddle. The vast majority can be bought in the Auction House, but some items can't so you'll need to gather them yourself.
      Written Guide
The easiest way to reach Winterspring is by taking the Hyjal portal from your main city (Stormwind / Orgrimmar). The cave is at 57, 16 1x Major Fire Protection Potion to get through the fire wall Apply all potions below (you need to wait a few minutes to be able to apply them all) to get past the second wall 1x Major Arcane Protection Potion 1x Major Fire Protection Potion 1x Major Frost Protection Potion 1x Major Holy Protection Potion 1x Major Nature Protection Potion 1x Major Shadow Protection Potion Apply Noggenfogger Elixir until you turn into a Skeleton (bring at least 10x Noggenfogger Elixirs)  They can be bought from Sprinkle Noggenfogger in Gadgetzan (Tanaris) - the fastest way to get there is by taking the Caverns of Time portal from Dalaran's Portal Room Use a charge of Scotty's Lucky Coin from Scotty in Townlong Steppes Inside the room, you'll need to loot a Water Stone and use it to get the wet debuff (Water Stone) and pass the blue wall Drink Dire Brew from Blackrock Depths (The Grim Guzzler) to get past the Stone Watcher Go up the ramp straight to the purple wall and apply Ethereal Oil to get inside until you reach the cube At the cube, apply both Gordok Ogre Suit (from Dire Maul dungeon quest The Gordok Ogre Suit or buy it in the AH) and Winterfall Firewater (a drop from High Chief Winterfall in Winterspring) and place your hand on the cube Go back and at the "jail door", use Pygmy Oil until you're transformed into a Pygmy to get to the Wisdom Cube (it's a good idea to bring a whole stack of Pygmy Oil) At Wisdom Cube, summon Perky Pug (reward from Looking For Multitudes) and dress him up using "Little Princess" Costume purchased from Battle Pet Masters in Dalaran (Lio the Lioness - Alliance //  Serr'ah - Horde) for 1x Pet Charm (or AH) Place your hand / arm below the cube to receive the second buff and go all the way down to the final room with an Oddly-Colored egg Here, you will see a Tarnished Plaque that needs to be read before you're able to collect your pet. There are two more things to be added DO NOT JUMP straight into the water, it will instantly teleport you to the entrance of the cave. Take the path all the way down to enter water, but before that remove the Winterfall Firewater buff to be able to apply  Scroll of Intellect (crafted by Scribes) Loot your Sun Darter Hatchling and remove the scroll buff to be ported to the entrance so you can hearth out Video Guide + Walkthrough

In today's blue posts roundup, we uncover some mysteries behind Writhing Essence, used to upgrade your Legendary items to 970 in Patch 7.2.5.
It's intended that activation trinkets will put other activation trinkets on cooldown. (Source) Legion Season 4 Battleground-quality gear can be obliterated for Echoes of Battle. (Source) The base item level of Legion Season 4 gear remains unchanged after opening of the Tomb. (Source) Mythic+ Keystone Dungeons not awarding Writhing Essence is intended. (Source) Important: If you have more than 50 Writhing Essences while turning in the quest to upgrade your Legendary item, they will get consumed and this is intended, so don't forget to hand in the quest at 50! (Source) This is caused by limitations of how quests work. Blizzard agrees it isn't ideal and are working on possible improvements. (Source) Relinquished tokens can't drop 7.2.5 Legendary items, just old ones. (Source)
