The long talked about StarCraft remaster has been officially announced and is scheduled to appear sometime this summer, featuring some new stuff as well as just the usual HD makeover (or in this case, UHD), like a zoom function, comic-book interludes to showcase the story in a new way, HD and non-HD players being able to play together and more. You can read up on the details on the game's official site.

Rediscover a Classic

StarCraft® Remastered upgrades the essential sci-fi strategy experience from beginning to end. Welcome back to the original game and its award-winning expansion, StarCraft: Brood War.

We’ve remastered our units, buildings, and environments, improved game audio, and broadened our supported resolutions. Illustrated interludes bring the struggles and victories of heroes like Artanis, Fenix, Tassadar, Raynor and Kerrigan to life like never before. Most importantly, the strategy gameplay that StarCraft perfected years ago remains unchanged.

Real-time Strategy Restored

Command the mechanized Terrans, psi-powered Protoss, and insectoid Zerg as they vie for map control of eight unique environments. Build your base and conscript your army in a real-time, military sci-fi vision of the future.

Once you’ve finished the campaign, go head-to-head or team up with other players online. Pit StarCraft’s iconic, radically-different races against one another in the ultimate theater of war.

Return to the Koprulu Sector

The galactic story of intrigue and cosmic warfare that culminated in StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void began years ago, in the far reaches of the Milky Way. Three races—the Earth-expat Terrans, the psionic Protoss warriors, and the world-devouring Zerg—encounter each other for the first time, beginning a conflict that spans worlds (and more than 50 missions).

Yes, please. I hope it releases pretty soon. Almost 20 years, man. Reliving this experience. No words.

Why is this on the overwatch page? Nothing about this is overwatch.

It has the Blizzard tag, which makes it pop up in every subsection. If we had Starcraft covered, we would most likely give it Starcraft tag, but since we do not have it covered, the article was given Blizzard tag instead.
When Starcraft players visit our website, they visit various subsections, rather than just one, which makes it reasonable to show it in all subs.

Kinda glad I held off on buying the original last week.

I am pretty sure owners of the original get this for free because it is the same game with just more graphic options.
The good thing is, theys keep the terrible movements and pathfinding. All the glitches and the struggles to move your army actually make this game so awesome.

Yes. I just looked at the forums. They do it the other way around. The classic game will be free instead of 20 bucks as it is right now. They will only sell the HD upgrade in the shop. The price and the functionality for people who purchased the original are not clear yet. So we finally get a free game! :)

Knowing that old-school games and RTS are desired this is a good move. Question how much they will ask for it.
On the other hand This shows that there wont be any new RTS from Blizzard for a while.
The general idea is nice and I would like to see some tournaments with SC:R

After 14 years of partnership, Blizzard and NetEase hit a rough patch in 2022, leading to failed negotiations. Consequently, when the licensing agreement concluded on January 23, 2023, Blizzard's game services were suspended across mainland China.
