Heroes 2.0 Veteran Loot Chests Update

Veteran players will receive exclusive loot chests that cannot be earned through progression when 2.0 goes live. The number of Veteran chests depends on your total, converted Player Level in the new system.

Veteran chests contain up to five coins and at least 1 Legendary item per chest.

Even More Rewards

  • If you play at least one game before 2.0 release, you receive 5 Common Loot Chests
  • At Player Levels 10 & 25, Common & Rare Chests were replaced with Epic Chests that offer at least one Epic quality (or higher) reward
  • All players that reached Player Level 40 before Heroes 2.0 goes live, will receive a 30-day Stimpack

Over the past few days, we’ve seen many conversations in the community surrounding the Loot Chests we’re awarding to our veteran players when Heroes of the Storm 2.0 goes live on April 25. After reading through the feedback that many of you have shared, we’ve decided to improve upon the plan we posted in our initial Heroes 2.0 announcement.

Whenever we roll out a new system, we strive to ensure it will help the game continue to evolve in a positive direction. We also do our best to strike a balance between creating features that are fun and rewarding for all players, and recognizing those of you who have been doing battle in the Nexus since the beginning. We’re very excited to bring the new progression and rewards systems to Heroes of the Storm and feel that they will accomplish all of these goals quite well.

With the changes we’ve made to Hero Level XP requirements, new players and veterans alike will be getting more meaningful rewards more often. Some of these include new mechanics and reward types that didn’t exist in Heroes when we first launched the game, and we can’t wait to see what you’ll do with them. Since we’ve also uncapped progression, you’ll be able to continue playing the Heroes you love, and receiving meaningful rewards, indefinitely.

One aspect of the Heroes 2.0 launch that we’d like to “level-up” is how we’re thanking the most dedicated Heroes players among you. We are incredibly grateful for your support, your enthusiasm, and all the fun matches we’ve played together since launch.

Updated Loot Chests for Current Players

Here are the updated rewards you will receive as a celebration of Heroes 2.0 and a gift to recognize your dedication to Heroes thus far:

Loot Chest Adjustments

If you’ve finished at least one Heroes of the Storm match before 2.0 is released, you’re going to receive five Common Loot Chests—but that’s just the beginning. Additionally, we’ve replaced all of the Common and Rare Loot Chests awarded at every 10 and 25 Player Levels (as outlined in our previous announcement) with Epic Loot Chests. Each Epic Loot Chest guarantees at least one item of Epic rarity, or higher, and you’ll receive up to 55 of them based on your converted Player Level after the Heroes 2.0 release. 

PLAYER LEVEL REWARDS
Completed at least 1 Heroes match 5 Loot Chests
Every 10 Player Levels +1 Epic Loot Chest (55 maximum)
Every 100 Player Levels +1 Veteran Loot Chest (10 maximum)

Veteran Loot Chests

Our most dedicated players will receive special “Veteran Chests” that contain five coins, rather than four, and guarantee at least one Legendary item per chest. Veteran Chests are a unique type of Loot Chest we’ve created specifically for our most dedicated players as part of the Heroes 2.0 launch, and cannot be earned through progression in the new system. Like the Epic Loot Chest rewards above, the number of Veteran Chests you will receive is based on your total, converted Player Level in the new progression system.

30 Day Stimpack

In order to give you a boost heading into our newly revamped progression system, players who reached level 40 prior to Heroes of the Storm 2.0 will also receive a 30-Day Stimpack! The 100% XP bonus it offers means you’ll level up and unlock Loot Chests even faster!

Whether you’re entering the Nexus for the first time in Heroes 2.0, or you’ve been with us for years, we believe you’re going to love the future of Heroes of the Storm we have in store. ... that's completely greedy... I'm an alpha, but really these rewards seem fine. gives a whole lot to anyone that has put in time to the game. Us beta and alpha had more time to do that than others, but if someone sinks every gaming moment into this they deserve the top rewards.

What's the threshold for veteran though? Like I feel like I've been playing for a good while but still, I doubt I'd class as veteran (I came in Auriel Patch)

I am also an Alpha player. But I fear that so many Epic Loot Chests will give me too much, so the new system won't be fun for a while.

The Main issue is the 'loss' of potential chests because you leveled past it before 2.0.  the main way to fix this would be either 

1) Give the veretan players all the normal amount of chests they wwould for reaching that level and don't cap out (probably best)

2) cap 'newer' players when they reach the cap that the veterans got.

 

2 seems less likely to happen becasue then ppl would be mad that they can't get any more chests just because they played the game alot (hence the only other way to get chests would be to buy them)

 

edit:  just to be clear, I think this new way is a lot better and probably will be the way to go

I don't get it. What's there to complain about. "All the time put into the game" ... I mean it is a game you play for fun so you enjoyed it, right? Or was it more like a job for you for which you should get paid? :D

Anyway, newer players will get showered for a long time with (imo useless) emotes, sprays etc. while long time players more frequently get duplicate items which break down into shards they can use to get a specific skin. Additionally, if you play since alpha and most likely have all heroes you can go spent your Gems on new heroes or more chests and even reroll chests more often because you should have a good amount of gold while newer players barley have/get enough Gems to buy one hero or buy chests regularly. That results in a constant gain of shards for long time players while newer players get far less of those.

I get what you're saying and in some sense I'm inclined to agree with you, I don't see why people are so meh about not getting "all the chest they're owed". It's quite a substantial payout to get the 70 chests and now veteran chests are there because people on the official hots page were ultra salty about it (reddit was fine from what I saw, they were happier about the API xD) when the newer players are new and need a reason to stay (hence they get one every level). Anyway, if it isn't truly random (I doubt it is) then all you'll get from chests are the new stuff and some duplicates. 

For me the game is simply a game, but I still wouldn't like my account to get jacked since friends and peeps get the Blizzard vouchers for me occasionally ;3 Hence I aggro hard when the internet disconnects me and I get reported.

I'm just hoping I have enough for a few veteran chests since I don't have any legendary items o.O

Btw, can someone clarify something (maybe I am stupid ^^) I know if you have a hero at level 10 now you will not get chests retroactively after 2.0 launches but if you have a hero at a level which will be pushed one or more levels after launch will you get chests for this progression or is just that is included in the chests you get for free? Mainly asking because of the hero specific chests at every 10 levels. Thanks in advance ^^

This has been a bit foggy on their explanation, especially when you work in the exp shift of higher level heroes. From what I understand the exp shift takes place, so your hero level and player level all get set to the new numbers, then all the retroactive milestone rewards kick in level 10 heroes, 10 and 100 player level chests, etc. So even though right now I'm around player level 400, I will go up and receive the rewards based on new hero levels (I have a bunch at 9, so I think they will all hit 10 in the new system).

Ok I think I got it now, No chests granted for the levels you gain from the conversion to 2.0 at all. One with 10 Heroes at level 20 plus other heroes that would be a ton :D That is why you get the free chests and they capped it to 70.

Hey ho!

Also a similar question about the experience and your 'total hero level':

I'm currently at total hero level 426. But I don't own every hero. I made it a chore to at least level all heroes to lvl5 during free-to-play weeks. There are 18 heroes I don't own but who are level 5 (or higher). Do they also count towards your total hero lvl after the conversion? Or not?

 

sidenote: 2.0 seems to be really cool. Eventhough they stole it all from their Overwatch-team collegues ;)

Personally I don't know but I don't see why not. I mean, your total hero level is based off of the heroes you've played so I hardly think it matters if you own them or not. If that was the case, your hero level would fluctuate based on who's on rotation (say Valla is on rotation and you have her at level 7. You're total level would be +7 when she's on rotation, and -7 when she isn't) which is frankly stupid. So yeah, I believe you'll get the chests you're owed from the heroes you don't actually own

      Garden of Terror Classic The original Garden of Terror has returned to Custom Games! The name has been changed to Garden of Terror Classic to differentiate from the current Garden of Terror. Haunted Mines Haunted mines has returned to Quick Match! Map objective is now complete when one team collects 55 Skulls, rather than when all 100 Skulls have been collected. Hero vision is reduced while in the mines. Warhead Junction Cast time for Nuke increased from 2.5 seconds to 3 seconds. Cast time for Nuke now breaks upon taking damage. DoT damage from Nuke increased by 100%. Damage to Forts and Keeps from Nuke increased from 100% to 125%. Return to Top

      Base
      Death Coil [Q] Mana: 40. Cooldown: 9 seconds. Deals 164 damage to target enemy. Can be self-cast to heal for 262 health. Howling Blast [W] Mana: 50. Cooldown: 10 seconds. Root enemies within the target area for 1.25 seconds and deals 68 damage. Frozen Tempest [E] Mana: 13 per second. Cooldown: 1 second. Deals 36 damage per second to nearby enemies and Slow their Movement Speed by 10% per second, stacking up to 40%. Heroes hit also have their Attack Speed Slowed by 10% per second, stacking up to 40%. Frozen Tempest's effects last for 1.5 seconds. Army of the Dead [R] Charge Cooldown: 18 seconds. Consume all charges to summon an equal number of Ghouls that last 15 seconds and attack for 20 damage. Ghouls can be sacrificed to heal Arthas for 240 Health. Stores up to 6 charges. Every time an enemy minion dies nearby, reduce the charge cooldown of this ability by 1 second. Takedowns reduce the charge cooldown of this ability by 6 seconds. Summon Sindragosa [R] Mana: 100. Cooldown: 100 seconds. Deals 230 damage and Slows enemies by 60% for 4 seconds. Also disables Minions, Mercenaries, Monsters, and Structures for 20 seconds. Frostmourne Hungers [D] Cooldown: 12 seconds. Activate to make Arthas' next Basic Attack strike immediately and deal 71 bonus damage. Dealing damage restores 40 Mana. QUEST: Killing a Minion or hitting a Hero with Frostmourne Hungers permanently increases its bonus damage and Arthas' Basic Attack damage by 1. Talents
      Level 1 Frost Presence Increase the area of Howling Blast by 20%. QUEST: Root enemy Heroes with Howling Blast. REWARD: After Rooting 15 Heroes, Howling Blast's range is increased by 20% and it hits enemies in its path. REWARD: After Rooting 30 Heroes, Death Coil Slows Heroes hit by 50% for 0.75 seconds. Borean Winds After Frozen Tempest has been active for 2 seconds, Arthas gains 10% Movement Speed. PASSIVE: Frozen Tempest's Slowing effects last an additional 0.5 seconds and its Mana cost is reduced by 4 per second. Rime Every 5 seconds, gain 75 Physical Armor against the next enemy Hero Basic Attack, reducing the damage taken by 75%. Stores up to 3 charges. PASSIVE: While Arthas is Slowed, Rooted, or Stunned he heals 24 Health a second. Level 4 Shattered Armor Enemy Heroes hit by Howling Blast have their Armor reduced by 15 for 4 seconds. Icy Talons Gain 3% Attack Speed for 2 seconds every time a Hero is damaged by Frozen Tempest, to a maximum of 60%. Frost Strike Frostmourne Hungers deals an additional 115 Ability damage in an area and slows Heroes hit by 20% for 2 seconds. Level 7 Immortal Coil Gain the healing effect of Death Coil even when used on enemies. If Death Coil is used on Arthas, it heals for an additional 75% bonus healing and its cooldown is reduced by 3 seconds. Rune Tap Every 3rd Basic Attack heals Arthas for 5% of his max Health. PASSIVE: Each stack of Frostmourne Hungers increases Arthas' Maximum Health by 10. Icebound Fortitude Cooldown: 35 seconds. Activate to gain 25 Armor and reduce the duration of Stuns, Slows, and Roots against Arthas by 75% for 3 seconds. Each Hero Rooted by Howling Blast reduces the cooldown of this ability by 2 seconds. Level 13 Deathlord If Death Coil is used on an enemy Hero, launch an additional Death Coil at a nearby enemy Hero. PASSIVE: Death Coil deals more damage the lower Arthas' current Health is, to a maximum of 50% bonus damage. Deathchill Howling Blast's damage is increased by 2 for each stack of Frostmourne Hungers. Howling Blast deals 100% additional damage and Roots for an additional 0.25 seconds against Heroes under 50% health. Biting Cold Each second an enemy is damaged by Frozen Tempest, it deals 15% bonus damage, up to 75% bonus damage. Level 16 Remorseless Winter Enemy Heroes that remain within Frozen Tempest for 2.5 seconds are Rooted for 1.25 seconds and heal Arthas for 3% of his maximum Health. This effect has an 8 second cooldown per target. Frostmourne Feeds Reduce the cooldown of Frostmourne Hungers by 6 seconds. Arthas heals for 75% of the Basic Attack damage dealt by Frostmourne Hungers. Anti-Magic Shell Cooldown 60 seconds. Activate to make Arthas immune to Spell Damage for 4 seconds and heal Arthas for 25% of the damage prevented. Level 20 Legion of Northrend Reduce Army of the Dead's charge cooldown by 5 seconds. Each charge consumed spawns an additional Ghoul to attack nearby enemies. These Ghouls cannot be sacrificed. Absolute Zero Sindragosa flies twice as far. Enemy Heroes are Rooted for 2.5 seconds, and then Slowed by 60% for 4 seconds. Death Pact Instantly double your stacks of Frostmourne Hungers, but it no longer gains stacks from hitting Heroes or killing Minions. PASSIVE: Takedowns grant 2 stacks of Frostmourne Hungers. Path of Frost Activate to instantly mount with 10% additional Movement Speed. Taking damage does not dismount Arthas from this mount. Lasts up to 5 seconds. When Arthas dismounts, Slow all nearby enemies by 30% for 2 seconds and deal 66 damage. Chen
