The Fallen Avatar of Sargeras is the penultimate boss inside the Tomb of Sargeras. The boss drops Tier 20 shoulders. During the fight, you'll see Illidan, Khadgar & Velen fighting the Deceiver before he teleports to his command ship.

Fallen Avatar

When Aegwynn defeated the Avatar of Sargeras, she was unable to destroy his avatar. In an effort to seal it away, the armor was entombed beneath the Temple of Elune, where it remained dormant for hundreds of years. Now, with the Legion tearing down the tomb's barriers, Kil'jaeden is in a position to reanimate the armor and unleash its power on Azeroth.

Overview

Players begin the encounter facing the Fallen Avatar and Maiden of Valor. The Fallen Avatar, trapped in titan machinery, assaults the players from his location while the now corrupted Maiden of Valor also attacks.

As the encounter progresses, Containment Pylons activate around the room pouring energy into the Fallen Avatar. The Maiden of Valor can absorb this energy.  At 100 Energy, she casts Cleansing ProtocolCleansing Protocol, expending all of her energy.

If allowed to reach 100 Energy, the Fallen Avatar shatters the floor, dropping players into the chamber below. Free from the titan machinery, the Fallen Avatar now becomes fully mobile. Thanks to the infusion of fel energy from the Containment Pylons, the Fallen Avatar's Rupture RealitiesRupture Realities now shatters the ground below him until the platform is completely destroyed.

Stage One: A Slumber Disturbed

Locked into an ancient titan device, the Fallen Avatar struggles to regain his full power by corrupting the machinery around him.

  • Touch of SargerasTouch of Sargeras - The Fallen Avatar creates 5 shadowy fissures. Each fissure erupts after 8 sec, inflicting 6,070,000 Shadow damage to all players in the fisure divided evenly. Each of these fissures that is not absorbed inflicts 3,175,000 Shadow damage to all players instead.
  • yXEHE6D.png Rupture RealitiesRupture Realities - The Fallen Avatar unleashes a blast of fel energy inflicting 6,610,000 Fire damage to all players. Players farther from the Fallen Avatar take less damage.
  • Unbound ChaosUnbound Chaos - Every 0.5 sec the target marks their current location. After 1.5 sec, the marked location explodes inflicting 464,500 Chaos damage to all players within 5 yards. In addition, the target erupts with Chaos Flames causing them to suffer 100,000 Chaos damage every 0.5 sec for 4 sec.
  • Shadowy BladesShadowy Blades - The Fallen Avatar summons forth 7 blades that speed towards random targets. Each player hit by a blade creates a pool of Lingering Darkness and causes an explosion, inflicting 1,785,000 Shadow damage to the target and all players within 7 yards.
    • Lingering DarknessLingering Darkness - Impact with a Shadowy Blade creates a viscous pool that inflicts 464,000 Shadow damage every 2 sec and reduces movement speed by 50% while within the pool.
  • iJc8x9S.png DesolateDesolate - Inflicts 4,000,000 Physical damage and increases damage taken from Desolate by 50% for 29 sec. This effect stacks.
  • ConsumeConsume - Upon reaching 100 Energy, the Fallen Avatar consumes the remaining life essence from the Maiden of Valor, healing himself proportional to the health she has remaining.
  • Ripple of DarknessRipple of Darkness - Inflicts 535,500 Shadow damage to all enemies. This attack is only used by the Fallen Avatar whenever he is not actively engaged in melee combat.
  • Maiden of Valor
    • yXEHE6D.png Cleansing ProtocolCleansing Protocol - Upon reaching 100 Energy, the Maiden of Valor places a shield upon herself absorbing 25% of her maximum health and begins casting Cleansing Protocol. At the completion of the cast, she inflicts 7,140,000 Fire damage to all players.  Depleting the absorb shield triggers a Malfunction.
      • rJnHTBu.png MalfunctionMalfunction - Inflicts 25% of the Maiden of Valor's maximum health to herself and she becomes stunned for 4 sec, interrupting all casts.
    • Matrix EmpowermentMatrix Empowerment - The Maiden of Valor becomes empowered while standing within the matrix, increasing Physical damage done by 5%. This effect stacks while she remains in the matrix.
  • rJnHTBu.png Containment Pylon

    • Tainted MatrixTainted Matrix - A tainted pylon activates and begins to channel shadowy energy into the Fallen Avatar, increasing his energy generation. The Maiden of Valor refracts the shadowy beam to all players if she stands within it, inflicting 2,500,000 Shadow damage to all players every 2 sec. If a player stands between the pylon and the Fallen Avatar the beam is redirected to them. Standing within the beam inflicts 350,000 Shadow damage every 1.5 sec. In addition, the target is afflicted with Tainted Essence. This effect intensifies every 2 sec while standing within the beam.
      • Tainted EssenceTainted Essence - Reduces healing and shields received by 10%. This effect stacks. At 10 applications, the target is slain.

Today we have some nerdscreams and the raid setup from Method's Argus kill, stealth hotfixes for the encounter, overall endboss stats for all of Legion as well as the Exorsus World 2nd Aggramar kill video.
The race to World First ended today as Method continued their recent dominance of Legion's raids and took down the probably final boss of the expansion, a mere 8 days after it was released (or 7 days after they started progress). We've already covered the WF itself, but there have been plenty of new stats coming after the kill, including the wipe count and raid setup. But first let's take a look/listen to the nerdscreams as the boss went down, somewhat less enthusiastic than usual I'd have to say:

Method also shared what stealth hotfixes happened while they were progressing on the final boss, not mentioned in any official notes:
We then have the raid composition for the kill itself, featuring 12 different classes including 3 rouges, 3 mages and 2 hunters:

And on to the wipe count, it took 320 failed attempts to get the world soul down as we already mentioned, and here's a comparison table for all the Legion endbosses, including the time they stayed alive for:
Raid / Boss WF Guild Wipe Count Time to kill (from region reset) Time to kill (from previous boss)  The Emerald Nightmare
      Xavius
      Exorsus 19 17h40min
+16h from US launch 2h43min  Trial of Valor
      Helya
       Method 223 2 days 7h
+16h from US launch 2 days 1h  The Nighthold
      Gul'dan
      Exorsus 247 11 days 6h
+16h from US launch 4 days 22h The Tomb of Sargeras
      Kil'jaeden
       Method 654 19 days 5h
+16h from US launch 11 days 19h  Antorus: the Burning Throne
      Argus the Unmaker
       Method 320 7 days 8h
+16h from US launch 6 days 14h And finally, we also got to see Exorsus World 2nd Aggramar kill video:
The race itself isn't quite over yet, as only Method have managed to end the Unmaker and finish up Antorus, and so the silver is still up in the air. Will Exorsus secure their expected second place finish or will the Asia guilds climb further up in this tier? Limit has also had the reset for two days now and seeing how crucial the gear from the 2nd clear is they still have quite the head start over Style War and Alpha. And let's not forget current 4th place holders Memento, who also might make it an all EU top 3. There are quite a few combinations that are open, so keep following Method.gg's live coverage to find out how it all shakes out, or check back in here when some more kills happen.

There's a new PTR build up, bringing with it Ulduar Timewalking and an even larger focus on the new 1-100 level scaling mechanics. Blizzard are asking for help in testing the questlines in some specific zones as well, so get on there and test!
      Build 25700 (source)
This week, we’ve implemented a new build that primarily brings bugfixes to the PTR. Our biggest focus for testing remains the new level 1-100 zone and dungeon scaling we’re introducing with 7.3.5. This is an extensive change to how loot, quests, and creatures work in the open world, so we continue to look for as much feedback as we can get about how things are working out.
Thank you so much for all of the feedback you’ve provided so far on leveling in Azeroth. We hope you keep the feedback coming, and we’d like to ask you to especially focus some of your testing on the questlines in these specific zones:
       Blade's Edge Mountains
       Duskwood
       Hellfire Peninsula
       Icecrown
       Kun-Lai Summit
       Nagrand
       Storm Peaks
       Terokkar Forest
       Vashj'ir
       Wetlands
Feedback on the difficulty, pacing, and most importantly, any bugs you might find while completing quests in the above zones would be most helpful. Please post your level scaling feedback here.
We now have Ulduar Timewalking available for testing, and it should be available for the next four days or so. Please post Ulduar Timewalking feedback here.
Also, a heads up—We’re planning a scheduled playtest of the new Seething Shore PvP Battleground. Get ready to Play With The Blues on the PTR on Tuesday, December 19 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. PST. The Seething Shore is a 10v10 race to gather Azerite on an island near Silithus, and we hope you’ll be able to join us there and test it thoroughly on Tuesday.
As always, thank you very much for participating in the PTR!
