The latest Reddit Q/A dealt with Genji and the new Hanamura battleground. We bring you a summary of the most relevant questions that received blue responses.

Reddit Genji & Hanamura Q/A Roundup: Apr 25

Most important information

  • Alarak, Tyrande, Lt. Morales reworks are coming soon
  • Map rotation is in the works
  • Loot Chests Reroll Pricing
    • Normal: 250/500/750 Gold
    • Epic: 500/1,000/1,500 Gold

Future Reworks

While there is no ETA, the following Heroes will receive updates in near future

  • Alarak
  • Tyrande
  • Lt. Morales

Genji

  • Blizzard started working on the Hero in August
  • The team approached the idea of allowing Deflect to work like it does in Overwatch (where it reflects most abilities/projectiles).
  • In Heroes, there were a lot of odd scenarios (e.g. deflecting a Flamestrike / Blizzard). They tried to fix it by having Genji constantly aim the deflection, but that felt bad given its short duration and the fact you constantly had to bash "W"
  • Deflect is seen as aurvival skill for reversing sticky situations that Genji often finds himself in
  • Due to Genji's nature of being a high mobility, high damage Assassin, devs didn't want to add many talents that ventured outside of that defined role
  • Swift Strike (aside from globals) is the longest movement ability in the game
  • Allowing his Swift Strike [E] to collide with walls would cause plenty of issues - it would make securing kills difficult, clipping the side of a building or a bush could feel frustrating. Secondly, they wanted Genji to be played very aggressively, appearing in the middle of team fights at any given moment
  • Reviewing his kit from Overwatch, they learned that pulling out the sword is a huge deal and sometimes it's deliberate for Genji. Because of this, they didn't decide to go with a melee-centric Q for Genji
  • Heroes with lots of mobility are taxed highly in other areas to ensure that they are balanced and fun to play against
  • Creating an alternative sword-based attack (Genji's second Heroic ability - Dragonblade) was more interesting than giving him the Tracer treatment.

Hanamura

  • The first version of healing pulse had an AoE cleanse built into it
  • Blizzard's still eager to create maps with "unique conditions" (like Hanamura & Towers of Doom) in the future
  • Internal testing showed that an 8 HP core constantly pushed the game to a 24 minute range, which is longer than ideal
  • Dehaka was an initial concern, since there's a lack of bushes/scrubs on the map. More were added to favor his travel mechanic
  • The art team came up with Hanamura and when they were brainstorming their approach to building the first Overwatch Battleground they wanted to do Payloads - because it gives Heroes something never done before - a mobile objective.
  • They were concerned with potential complexity of the battleground
    • It's a constant struggle between developing new ideas versus becoming the game with too many ideas

Misc

  • Combating toxic behavior is ongoing, but they want to avoid accidentally taking action against players (something like intentional feeding can be harder to pick out)
  • Some sort of forgiveness for players affected by toxic behavior and disconnects is planned
  • At some point, the Heroes eSports webpage and HoTS Tournaments will be accessible (read) via an in-game tab, no ETA
  • They will keep adding new content to loot boxes
  • No brawl-themed portraits are considered for now, existing brawl portraits will be achievements
  • Map rotation will be added relatively soon and the team wants to get more aggressive with updating battlegrounds, similar to what they do for Heroes
  • There is no set formula to determine camp despawns during objectives; On Infernal Shrines, they learned that active mercenary camps end up supporting the team more than a lost objective
  • No changes to requirements to play Ranked with 2.0 are planned
  • Prices for rerolling Loot Chsts:
    • Normal: 250/500/750 Gold
    • Epic: 500/1,000/1,500 Gold
  • No loading screen complexity is planned, they want the information to stay simple
  • Heroes devs work very closely with the Overwatch team to make sure that Heroes are genuine. Animations are done from scratch
  • Blizzard Mantra - "The game needs to be easy to learn, but difficult to master"
  • End-game screen Macros to congratulate the enemy team are considered
  • There are much more AA Heroes than casters and it's something they want to balance out

What does Map rotation mean exactly? Any details known?

Loots Chests: What about the Rare and Hero Specific (and Veteran) Chests? are they considered Normal? I have no idea if hero and veteran chests can be re rolled at all, does anyone know? If not, we will find out soon, I guess :)

We don't know yet. They didn't answer the questions about Veteran chest rerolls. I think it will be similar to F2P Hero rotation - a set of maps rotating every week.

My guess would be that there would be 3-4 maps playable in HL and TL during every free hero rotation, rotating at the pace of free heroes. Would make certain weeks unplayable for me tho as i despise certain maps quite a bit (blackheart's), although by the same token would make certain weeks insanely good with only good maps in the rotation (towers, shrines, sky). Just my guess I have no actual info about what that actually means, just pure speculation. I'd probably rather not have weekly map pool still, as it would very likely result into some side effects for the popularity of the game on certain rank at certain time, creating very awkward matchmaking.

That was my first thought too. Could result in high and low populated weeks. Not a good thing imo.

My guess is that this will be that all the maps are on a set playlist 'rotating' one after the other rather then randomly. So like if the list was blackhearts, towers of doom, battlefield of eternity, cursed hollow, etc...  Then if you just played towers you know you're playing battlefield next match you play then cursed hollow and so on and so forth. And they'll just switch up the order that they play in each week I guess.

It's my heart.. Map rotation, the first thing I guessed was.. manually rotating map!

Oh boy, the potential hype... And imagine if you could knock people off it by rotating the map, killing them!

Blizzard's implementing new technology to the game that will enhance the ability to validate the accuracy of reports. Players who are frequently reported for using offensive language will receive account silences and ranked suspensions faster now.
      Blizzard (Source)
Starting today, we’re implementing new technology that enhances our ability to validate the accuracy of reports. This will allow us to increase the rate that we issue account silences and ranked suspensions to players who are frequently and consistently reported for using offensive language. These actions are aimed at those who regularly use offensive language to harass, antagonize, and abuse one or more of their teammates. This type of behavior not only ruins the experience for those who are targeted, but also damages team morale, effectively degrading the fun for everyone in a match.

We will continue to issue weekly suspension and ban waves for non-participation and intentionally dying. You can check that forum thread regularly to keep up with our latest round of account actions. Additionally, if you’ve recently reported another player for going AFK, refusing to participate, or intentionally dying, be sure to keep an eye on the email inbox associated with your account for any updates regarding actions we’ve taken against that player as a result of your report.

We’d like to thank those of you who use the relevant in-game reporting options when you spot negative behavior in your matches and encourage you to continue doing so. Your actions have the largest positive impact on the health of the community.

For example: It should now be easier to tell whether a teammate has selected Falstad or Muradin during a draft. Design
      Quests

This will likely result in difficult gameplay experiences for those attempting to test Genji’s changes in the PTR. General
Fixed a number of typo and tooltip errors across several aspects of the game. A.I.
Hanzo: Fixed an issue that could cause A.I. Hanzo to repeatedly Channel and cancel Storm Bow. Art
Blaze: Icon art has been swapped for the Adhesive Petroleum and Oil Dispersal Talents. Lunar Sylvanas: Fixed an issue causing Lunar Sylvanas to play an incorrect animation on the Most Played screen. Battlegrounds
Checkpoint: Hanamura (Brawl): The Brawl Info tooltip now correctly states that Health Packs restore 35% Health and Mana. Tomb of the Spider Queen: The left-side team’s bottom Fort can no longer attack enemy Heroes who are just beyond the Gate. Try Mode: Tychus’ Dash Talent now correctly grants its Movement Speed reward after using the Complete Quests button. Try Mode: Uther’s Silver Touch Talent now correctly grants its second Mana cost reduction reward to Holy Light after using the Complete Quests button. Heroes, Abilities, and Talents
Abathur: The number of Minions Absorbed stacks no longer appear inconsistent in the Buff bar after Abathur dies while a Monstrosity is active. Abathur: Fixed an issue causing Spike Burst’s visual effects to appear much larger than intended when cast while targeting a Mercenary with Symbiote. Alarak: Free Lightning Surge casts granted by the Lightning Barrage Talent now correctly display its cast range indicator. Ana: Nano Boost’s duration bar now appears next to, rather than replaces, any existing Ability duration bars for the targeted Ally, like Sonya’s Whirlwind. Brightwing: Can now correctly cast Blink Heal on Turrets and Biotic Emitters that were placed by Brightwing herself. Cho: Entering a Stasis effect, like Zeratul’s Void Prison, while Surging Fist is charging no longer places Surging Fist on full cooldown. Fog of War: Hitting an enemy with certain targeted, ranged Abilities, like Sylvanas’ Shadow Dagger, just before the target enters Fog of War or a Line of Sight Blocker now correctly reveal that enemy. Fog of War: Fixed an issue in which attempting to cast a targeted Ability through the Fog of War on a snapshot of a unit that no longer exists could cause the Hero to path into the terrain and become stuck. Greymane: Partial progress earned toward the Wizened Duelist Talent’s next attack damage bonus will no longer persist after dying. Hanzo: Natural Agility now activates correctly after being hit by Phase Prism near a tower. Illidan: Can now correctly cast Dive on Ragnaros in Molten Core form. Kel’Thuzad: Phylactery can no longer be activated before its animation completes. Li-Ming: Spell Armor granted by the Force Armor Talent is now correctly consumed when hit by Ability damage from non-Heroic sources. Rexxar: The tooltip for Misha, Focus! no longer lists a cooldown. Rexxar: Switching seats in a Triglav Protector no longer causes Rexxar to become unresponsive. The Lost Vikings: Stealth granted by the Spy Games Talent is now correctly applied for 3 seconds after Erik moves. Thrall: Killing Minions who were hit by Chain Lightning now correctly causes Echo of the Elements quest progress visual effects to appear near Thrall, rather than allies. Uther: Fixed an issue in which Uther could briefly use activated Talents after death, but prior to entering Eternal Vanguard form. Uther: The Silver Touch Talent’s quest rewards no longer incorrectly benefit Flash of Light. Zagara: The Infest Talent now correctly boosts nearby Ranged Minion damage by 100%. Zeratul: After death, Zeratul’s body will no longer teleport to the location of his last Vorpal Blade target. Sound
Gul’dan: The voiceover line that plays while idling on Gul’dan’s Hero page in the Collection no longer ends early. User Interface
Pings: Fixed an issue in which muting a player would not prevent icons related to that player’s pings from appearing. Hotkeys: Fixed an issue that could occasionally cause Heroes to ignore Force Move commands.
