The First New Rift Boss in Years

Welcome Vesalius, the first new Rift Boss in a long time! While it seemed he was entirely unique at first, it later turned out, as most Rift Bosses, that he was based off an Adventure Mode boss (Vidian from the Sanctum of Blood, a new area). Both bosses are giant Enslaved Nightmares, new models coming with the Necromancer pack and showing up now on the beta, so we can hope there will be even more new additions once it goes live.

Streamer Zhanji first ran into the boss and his Necromancer's first encounter with Vesalius didn't go that great, considering the Frozen Pulse, Wormhole and Glowy Balls. So, let's take a look:

Don't want to be rude but I hope this is ironic. Hype around new rift boss? I would probably not even realise it. U ppl obviously not into PoE or Torchlight 2 or any different game content delivery. Single person does more content in modding for games and for free than Blizz for D3

I beg to differ.  Diablo 3 still has a large base of players and anything new is interesting.  I expect that with the advent of the necromancer, more people will play as he is a fan favorite.

I wish it was true. The Hardcore playerbase is already dead. You find far less people to play with than it used to be. While I quit Hardcore just to have more people to play with, most of my friends and my Clan members have not been online since Season 3. Mostly because you have nothing to do after the first week of a season.

The Necromancer might give the game a little push, but I don't think a new character will keep the game above 2000 twitch viewers for long. Especially since Blizzard stated that there will not be much coming after his release.

I still like the game as it is and I still play it. But it is definitely fading away with less news and sadly less players. Starcraft2 News might be more profitable for this website imho.

While I agree it's hardly big news or anything, it's still interesting to see what's coming up. Plenty of people still play the game (twitch nothwithstanding) and use the guides here, so D3 news seems appropriate. As far as SC2 is concerned that's the definition of a dead game, even the devs said so at the end of the last Nova pack. Whether D3 goes into complete dead silence after the Necro or not pretty much depends on the sales of that pack, but I think if it does we we could easily see more classes and other content since Blizzard seem to have no idea whatsoever what to do next with the franchise (aka D4).

I can't say I ever saw D3 having a big let's play community. There is no openly competitive aspect like in hearthstone, wow arenas, heroes, overwatch. Only pushing rifts in season leaderboards. I mean watching a video of a new build or someone breaking some record is fun, but, watching someone just kill monsters for hours on end? Fun solo, fun with friends, but to watch?

I think SC2 and D3 are in a similar place. They aren't the "dominant" blizzard games but still have followings much larger than many console games. The die-hards will stick with what they love. While the necro pack or new commander packs might only sell 1-2 million copies at say 25 for necro that's 50 mil. So, I think even the littler communities appreciate any support and while yes D3 needs more than just a single new character its showing some love. It's also showing blizz is quite capable of doing it. So instead of D4 maybe a new character every 5 months or couple seasons? enough to keep the playerbase moderately entertained. Take everquest, I believe the servers are still running, you can keep anything going with a smaller dedicated playerbase as long as their is consistancy. Heck D2 had a very active community for 12 years, still kinda does because many hated D3.

As far as SC2 on icy goes I just feel there is too much to do and no clean way of doing it. There are literally seasons of television shows in korea dedicated to strategy. I've read several dissertation sized documents discussing single gameplay choices like 4 versus 5 spawning pools for zerg. So, while in theory we could do maybe builds with estimated time codes like oh make sure you build your third barracks by 1:30:30 or something the shear size and detail just seems too big. SC2 really is more of a singular dedicated thing IMO. Not saying there isn't room for it, I just don't think a multigame site could do it justice.

Can't seem to find it on a quick google but after the last story DLC there was a message from the devs thanking the community etc, basically saying they weren't gonna do any more stuff like that. I'm sure they'll still add small stuff like the additional commanders etc but in terms of "bigger" content yea. Obv they might change their minds and I could be misremembering but it sounded pretty definitive to me. With D3 the same thing might happen after Necro if it doesn't sell well, so they'll just add a few legendaries and cosmetics here and there every few seasons.

      Nevalistis commented on the possible Season 17 end date on the D3 reddit, and it seems we're not getting any specifics beyond the 2 week warning. The latest season started on May 17th and has been going on for almost 2 months now, with the average season duration being 3 months, but 16 was a longer one, clocking in at 114 days - the 4th longest season ever.

      Season 17 has been great so far, with it's LoN buff, so it could be extended like the Season of Grandeur was - here's hoping it is since I don't really see what new seasonal effect they can come up with that would match the Season of Nightmares.

      The Barbarian class has seen better days, and with the latest season some of their major flaws were accentuated even more with the lack of solid LoN builds. Two Diablo 3 community members, Rage and Free, have taken it upon themselves to take a good look at the class and figure out what should be done to put it on at least a bit more equal footing with the other classes and to return some variety within the class itself.
      Their efforts are concentrated on getting as much attention to their proposed changes, and after having looked said changes over ourselves, we decided to help them out by sharing them. For all the in-depth analysis and details, head on over to the aptly named barbarianbuffproposals.strikingly.com, while we take a look at the general idea here. 

      The main problems Free and Rage focus on are twofold:
      Certain parts of sets and/or builds are simply not working, such as Rend in WotW or Avalanche in MoE. A lot of supporting legendaries are either outdated or just bad, and so a lot of BiS slots are taken by generic cross-class items, so LoN and primary skill builds are weak as a result. The solutions are manifold and very detailed, but are also separated into 3 categories, with the first being a simple (but also very detailed) fixes to the broken sets and skills, as well as buffs to the under-performing legendaries, while the second goes much deeper and suggests larger gameplay changes, such as set and item overhauls. The third category is somewhat separate and focuses on passive skill changes/buffs.
      The actual solutions presented in these 3 categories are truly massive and detailed, so we'll just focus on category 1, aka the "simple" number increase only solutions, and direct you over to the barbarianbuffproposals site for all the rest:

      As mentioned, this is just 1 of three proposed solutions and you should really check out the full page as it not only gives a great overview of where Barbarians are at the moment, but also some great solutions that go beyond simple number tweaks.
