Skin and Voice Emote Previews, S5 Start Date

Skins, emotes, S5 start date and Jeff Kaplan admits competitive rewards might have been a mistake.

The anniversary previews/teases continue as we get to see new skins for Bastion, Pharah, Solider: 76 and Zarya:

And then there's the new voice lines, featuring Winston, Solider: 76 denying paternity, Symmetra setting up the car wash with her turrets and more.

The other news come from the competitive side of the game, as we got the end date for Season 4 as well as the start date for S5 and Jeff Kaplan recently admitted that competitive rewards were a mistake:

Jeff: I’ll say something even more controversial. I wish we would’ve never added any cosmetic items to Competitive. I think the people playing Competitive should only be there because they really care about playing in Competitive mode, and they want to rise through the tiers – that’s who I think belongs in Competitive. I don’t think we should overly incentivize players because of cosmetic rewards into the system any more than we already have to the point where if we could do the Men In Black thing and make everybody forget and we would come out with Overwatch again and literally wouldn’t add any cosmetic rewards to the system, so it’s tricky because we get asked the question a lot. Now, that doesn’t mean that all the cool stuff that we have ideas for couldn’t be given out to players in other ways, so it’s not like we’re just not going to make it, like “Haha we’re taking out football and game over” – it’s more that I would love to give it out in a way where it doesn’t encourage players to be in Competitive mode who don’t want to be there. I think it really takes a really special mindset to be in Competitive, and I think a lot of the problems that we see are players who really don’t want to, or belong there, spending more time than they should there.

Hey, everyone.

Season 4 of Competitive Play is coming to an end very soon, so we wanted to lay out a few key dates and important pieces of information regarding the upcoming season roll.

DATE AND TIMES

Season 4 will officially end on Sunday, May 28 at 5:00 p.m. PDT (or Monday, May 29 at 00:00 UTC). Season 5 is currently scheduled to launch three days later on Wednesday, May 31 at 5:00 p.m. PDT (or Thursday, June 1 at 00:00 UTC).

SEASON 4 REWARDS

If you completed your placement matches during Season 4, you will eligible to receive a special spray and player icon. These will be unlocked automatically when you log into your account the first time after the season ends. If you are placed within the Top 500 players on your platform (and in your region) at the end of the season, you’ll receive an extra player icon and animated spray on top of the other seasonal rewards.

Aside from sprays and icons, you’ll also receive a number of Competitive Points based on the maximum skill rating you achieved during the season.

Here’s the Skill Rating (SR) to Competitive Point (CP) breakdown for Season 4:

SR 1-1499 (Bronze): 100 CP
SR 1500-1999 (Silver): 200 CP
SR 2000-2499 (Gold): 400 CP
SR 2500-2999 (Platinum): 800 CP
SR 3000-3499 (Diamond): 1200 CP
SR 3500-3999 (Master): 2000 CP
SR 4000-5000 (Grandmaster): 3000 CP

That bastion and soldier look SWEET! How do they keep coming up with new skins so often that are all still amazing quality?! How long can they really keep this up? Overwatch has really raised the bar of all games in the vanity department. Part of what makes the game so cool, and is reviving Heroes in the same way.

I assume it has to do with half of the skins being terrible. Like the good ones are amazing, but the bad ones are so bad.

      Update: You can now also pre-order the game and get a free golden loot box, with a guaranteed legendary inside, as well as Widownmaker's Noire skin.

      The Nintendo Switch will be receiving its second Blizzard game soon, as Overwatch will be arriving on the console on October 15th! It will come bundled with 15 skins and 3 months of Nintendo Switch Online membership, which is required to play the game.
      October 15th will see the Heroes arrive to Nintendo's console.

      Placement previews should now be much smoother (Reaper Shadowstep, Mei Ice Wall, etc). Placement previews will now hold their position after clicking, until they’ve been confirmed by the server. Fixed a bug where first person animations sometimes wouldn’t play when abilities were used immediately after being frozen.       PATCH HIGHLIGHTS
      New Hero: Sigma
      Sigma is an eccentric astrophysicist and volatile tank who gained the power to control gravity in an orbital experiment gone wrong. Manipulated by Talon and deployed as a living weapon, Sigma’s presence on the battlefield cannot be ignored. Sigma launches two Hyperspheres (gravitic charges), which bounce off walls and implode after a short duration, damaging enemies within a sizable radius. Using Experimental Barrier, he propels a floating barrier to a location of his choosing and he can dismiss the barrier at any time. With Kinetic Grasp Sigma freezes incoming projectiles in midair, converting them into shields. Accretion allows Sigma to gather a mass of debris and flings it at an enemy to knock them down. Unleashing his full powers with Gravitic Flux, Sigma takes flight, lifts enemies in a targeted area, and launches them into the sky before slamming them back down.
