Primal Drop Rate

Recommended Posts

Can anyone confirm whether or not there is a glitch or something, been playing my Witch doctor since seasons start, completed a 70 the same night. I have 43 hour 28 minutes played, 407 bounties, 183 rifts, haven't even seen a bad primal yet.

They don't drop until you've got an account flag for completing GR 70 SOLO - groups don't trigger the flag.

It was a solo 70, non group.

From https://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/20529333/patch-250-ptr-notes-3-10-2017#items:

  • General
  • Primal Ancient Items
    • Legendary and Set items will now have a chance to roll as Primal Ancient
    • These items are much more rare than Ancient items and have perfect Ancient-level stats on all affixes, including the item’s Legendary Power
      • Note: Primal Ancients will only begin dropping after a character on the player’s account has reached Greater Rift 70 Solo
        • There are separate unlocks for normal and Hardcore characters, as well as Seasonal and non-Seasonal characters
      • The stats on these items will be tailored to the character class you are playing when the item first drops
    • Primal Ancient items salvage into 15 Forgotten Souls

So, first the facts of how a Primal is rolled for:

Any set/legendary item have a 10% chance to become ancient. After an item is successful in becoming an ancient one it now makes a second roll and the ancient item have a 10% chance to become Primal.

So in other words, for each individual set/legendary item:
1 in 10 becomes ancient
1 in 100 becomes primal

As far as I know there is no "bad luck" mechanic in Diablo 3 so it's a 1 in 100 odds every roll for the item.

Hrm those odds aren't that bad, I thought the primal chance was much much lowers. Albeit this season I'm still a couple rifts away from 70 solo, can't get a couple needed items to drop :(
