Arms DPS with logs

3 posts in this topic

I had some great help with my Fury build from this forum, and have recently attempted to try Arms.

My guild did a full normal ToS run today, and i captured the logs. I seem to be parsing OK, but it felt clunky.

Here are the logs: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/mfLjRTWXrkb4ZxQY/#boss=-2&difficulty=0&source=20

Armory:  https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/character/nagrand/çleâvâgé

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Good afternoon, Nerenahlil.

I want to apologize that it's taken so long to get back to you. This whole past week has been kinda crazy for me, personally. I've seen your thread, as well as a couple of others, but just haven't had the time to sit down and address them.

================================

I'm going to look over your Goroth fight (Normal) as it's the best encounter to really gauge a rotation / priority execution. For reference, here is the link to the specific encounter: Goroth Normal Kill (3:19).

  • Your talents are fine.
  • Your artifact is fine. 3 points in concordance.
  • You had the legendary boots equipped. Not sure if you have a better second legendary (even the execute ring would be better) but, otherwise, the boots are a glorified stat stick in the slot.
  • You're using Umbral Moonglaives and Convergence of Fates. While BiS for Fury, they're not the strongest options for Arms. Ideally you want stat sticks (Arcano Crystal), a good Engine of Eradication, or a good Cradle of Anguish. Good trinkets can easily increase your damage output by 100,000 DPS.
  • While you had food, flask, and even a rune, you missed one use of a Potion (Old War). You can always pre-pot and then use one in combat. This is minor, however, but something I noticed. Good job on having all your consumables in check. =)

As far as your logs go, for combat, here's a couple of things to take note of:

  • Your Rend up time, prior to the Execute phase, is a little lower than necessary. You have 2 gaps of missing Rend (again, prior to the Execute Phase) that it should have been applied. If you're not tracking the debuff already, you need to find a way to do so. Also, with Rend, you cast it (once) during the Execute phase. There's no need to do this; once you hit 20%, let Rend drop and prioritize your Execute rotation.
  • You missed two Shattered Defenses procs.
  • You mis-cast Mortal Strike 3 times during your Execute phase. What I mean by "mis-cast" is that you used it at the wrong time. The first time you cast it with 0 stacks of Executioner's Precision and no Shattered Defenses. The 2nd and 3rd time you cast Mortal Strike, you had your 2 stacks of Executioner's Precision but no Shattered Defenses.

Your Execution priority is pretty straight forward (this is what you need to do; not what you did):
    • Mortal Strike (with x2 Executioner's Precision and Shattered Defenses)
    • Colossus Smash if you don't have Shattered Defenses
    • Execute

Overall, it's just the small details here and there that you're missing. Key things to the Arms rotation, but nothing major that I can see. The two major things to focus here are to find better trinkets and to clean up your Execute rotation. Everything else is kinda minor but, when these things are in check, your numbers should come up.

As always, I hope this helps. If you should have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

<Pickle Palace> is a recently formed guild on Illidan, but is made up of veteran players who wanted to take a step back from semi-hardcore raiding. We are currently raiding Mythic Antorus (9/11), with our goal being to finish it out before the end of the expansion. Our community is actively playing outside of raid time, pushing M+ and hanging out on discord.

We raid on a 2 day schedule. Our raid days are Tuesday and Wednesday 9-12 EST. And will be adding a 3rd raid day for BfA! (Thursday or Monday)

      We are currently recruiting,

      All Exceptional Ranged DPS
      &
      Shaman w/ offpsec heals

      Expectations
Have a great attitude every night. Be prepared for every raid; this includes purchasing consumables and studying encounter strategies. We provide feast/codex/flasks other consumables are your responsibility Zero tolerance policy for criticizing others' performance. Hi everyone. I just killed HC Varimathras and I was surprised by my low damage. There was not second time warp because we used the first one at 20% HP but I think I should get higher numbers. Can anyone tell me what did I do wrong? Was it really only in TW? I do not think so :/.

Looking for a fun, casually serious progression guild? Hordeland Security could be your new home! We started at launch, and have raided on Blackhand, Baelgun, and now Turalyon.

We currently raid on Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:00- 9:15 Central Time. We understand that no one has an unlimited amount of time to play. We raid with a fun, casual, yet goal oriented focus; we achieve AotC in current content and then progress into Mythic. We also have a few that pvp, and we've been known to also do mog/achievement runs.
      Interested? Drop us a line!

lil ol' me - Maplefire#1200 - (mention you're from the Icy Veins thread in the friend request so my brain won't explode)
Thanks for your consideration - happy raiding!

I'm not entirely sure what I am doing wrong that is getting me this result, but I am getting about a 30k dps difference on training dummy when I use a defile, clawing shadows, shadow infusion build than when I use the recommended talents. I left the rest of my talents unchanged and I have yet to see where the dps difference is coming from (arbiter or clawing shadows), but I'm very confused as to how this could happen. Defile damage breakdown, Arbiter damage breakdown
I felt like I had a harder time keeping my disease up and using coldheart on cooldown (or rather whenever at max stacks) with the arbiter build. Am I missing some key thing or do I just need to git gud? Thanks in advance for any help.
