Assault on Volskaya Foundry

18 posts in this topic

UXjZbIO.jpg

A new Overwatch event is heading to the Nexus. We're getting a new battleground called Volskaya Foundry and two Overwatch Heroes - Ana (versatile Support) and Junkrat (Assassin).

Volskaya Foundry

The frigid mechworks of Volskaya are a notorious hotbed for conflict and corporate backstabbing. On this frosty Battleground, the heroes of the Nexus vie to wrest control of enormous Protector mechs and blast their opponents to smithereens.

Features

Capture Points

  • Control points activate occasionally. Stand within them to capture them. Fully capturing a point grants you control of a giant mech.

Control the Protector

  • The Triglav Protector mech is controlled by two players: one pilot and one gunner. Work together!

Destroy Everything

The Protector's abilities deal incredible damage to structures and Heroes alike. Use it to lay waste to your enemy.

New Brawl

There's also a new single-lane Heroes brawl called Bash 'Em Smash 'Em Robots where robots run amok. Each team receives a Protector at the start of the game. Be careful with them - the Protectors respawn, but only after both have been destroyed.

New Heroes

Ana

  • A versatile Support who helped found the world-protecting team of heroes known as Overwatch.

Junkrat

  • An unpredictable Assassin and general miscreant who lives to cause chaos and destruction.

Volskaya Skins

Existing Heroes are getting new skins as usual. Here's a look at Commandant Varian and Shrike Ana.

Hey, that's pretty cool.

Mechs, cool skins, in-game events...

Sure, I guess people that don't like Overwatch are gonna be a bit upset.

Also, lil' joke from Blizzard with the D.Va Deathwing, not sure if you forgot to include it into the article or not.

Thankfully both of these looks to fit better than Hanzo will in a MOBA. I'm not happy about a full overwatch event with two more heroes, especially after the last one pretty much failed horribly.

Kinda surprised to see that Junkrat is an assassin, his kit reminds me more of a specialist than that (I guess FIrebat is the next specialist then). Also, what's the hate with Hanamura. Can someone explain it to me? Was it the bribe being way too OP on that map?

Edit : Kinda sad that we didn't get a new multi class hero, or an older hero reworked like that (looking at you Kharazim)

I appreciate that they bring a new map and heroes.

Sadly I'm not a great fan of OW and I would really like to see a Warcraft map instead. But that's just personal preferences and a hate towards the high (too high) mobility of the OW heroes making escape mechanism totally obsolete and it's rough for heroes who have dire need of them.

Yup, Warcraft maps would be nice. But I think it should happen soon perhaps, Starcraft, Diablo and now Overwatch got events with hero and maps release from their universe.

As for mobility, yeah, I think they got too crazy with the mobility of OW characters, especially Genji and his dashes that feel waaaay too long but well, Ana doesn't have any mobility in Overwatch so that's alright, I'm more scared for Junkrat, especially when seeing how he have some kind of flying rocket in the video, I wouldn't be surprised to see that being his second ultimate or something.

Oh my gods! The new D.Va skin looks AMAZING!!! <3<3<3<3!!!! The Varian one is cool too. We knew Ana was coming soon, but Junkrat is a surprise for sure. Now they just need to give Stitches a Roadhog skin and the OW duo will be back in action in HotS too :D. Kinda surprised they didn't do that with this upcoming event, but I suppose you wanna save some things for later too :p :).

I am loving the new heroes, skins and the Pachimari fever catches up to HotS too I see, but I have huge, HUGE doubts over this new map. Seen it being dubbed Hanamura 2.0 in twitch chat, and while it's early for speculation, it's those conveyor belts that raise a flag for me.

I don't know if anyone else remembers Ring of Valor, an arena map added in WotLK (or was it Cataclysm?) for WoW, which was eventually removed from the game entirely because of how many issues it had. Personally, it was the pet bugs for me with it, but things like charge pathing, having pillars with a huge height advantage and no way to get to the top, being feared and ended up getting stuck in the flame walls and people leaving the map boundaries. This whole talk of "we've tried to make everything we possibly can interact with these belts" is just asking for trouble imo, and I wouldn't be surprised if it gets universally hated in competitive, where if you perform an action, you expect that action to do something specific, not have it work in a weird way with the environment on one specific map like a bug, or having to work and think twice as hard to make your abilities work the way you want them to, or getting cheesed to death (they mentioned Gazlowe's turrets... would it also rotate his large radius bombs around? What about pets and summons movements?) I just remember this kind of stuff always being a pain in the arse to deal with in multiplayer games unless it's specifically designed around those mechanics in the first place.

Even if it has the potential to be the kind of crazy fun one might expect from HotS, other things like a 2 man vehicle and bribe camps are also contentious, and I worry that it might be forced on us for several weeks like Hanamura was, despite being acknowledged that it wasn't well balanced.

I don't even guess, how the map will be called in Russian. :D Завод им. Вольской? Волжский завод? Oh I know -- Волжский автозавод, ВАЗ! Because I believe that is the way they craft their autos -- fighting each other with magic and lasers!

God, I REALLY want Fenix bad...

It was pretty clear that Hanzo was in the bottom of the list of upcoming heroes, so he probably will come in the future, but there are probably quite some heroes to be added first (as Firebat or Alexstraza, who both was leaked in the Ressurecting Kel'thuzad videos)

Are you guys positive, this Ana skin is volskaya-themed skin? To me it looks like a skin from destiny 2.

Other than that, great news, everything looks fun about it.

It's a "regular" Ana skin, regular as it's a skin that Ana has in Overwatch, just like Lucio and his Frog skin are also in Overwatch.

It's not Volskaya themed, in fact it's a skin that is tied to the lore of Ana, and since Ana is egyptian if I'm not mistaken...

I just think they wanted to point out that we know that this Ana skin will be coming alongside the Volskaya-themed Varian skin.

From what I remember, the guy that does all the leaks etc. had Alex/Hanzo both as due to be released later than Ana/Junk, so perhaps they're still in development alongside Firebat.

The latest patch is now live with Orphea, visual updates to Dragon Shire, and new Hero bundles!
      Highlights
Orphea received additional tweaks today in the live version of the patch. The new Hero is available to all BlizzCon attendees and Virtual Ticket holders free of charge. Don't forget to check out our Orphea build guide (will be up soon). Alextrasza’s Life-Binder (R) and Rehgar’s Ancestral Healing (R) abilities are no longer cancelled under any conditions other than enemy abilities that remove the target from play. Stimpacks are now called Boosts and the 360 Day Boost is available at a 33% reduced price for the next two weeks along with new Hero Bundles. Blizzard released a new digital comic about Orphea yesterday. Blizzard (Source)
Our newest patch, featuring Orphea, is now live! Read on for a detailed breakdown of what’s new in the Nexus.
NOTE: Orange text indicates a change between the PTR and Live notes.
      General
Boost What was once called a Stimpack is now a Boost, and in addition to buffing your own experience and Gold gains at the end of a match, all players will receive 5% bump in experience for each player in their match who had an active Boost. That mean players can receive up to a 45% XP bonus if all 10 players in game have a Boost active! In addition to stacking Boost XP buffs, you’ll now be able to retroactively Boost your Gold and XP gains at the end of a match by applying a Boost from the Score Screen. Design
Channeled Healing Abilities Alextrasza’s Life-Binder (R) and Rehgar’s Ancestral Healing (R) abilities are no longer cancelled under any conditions other than enemy abilities that remove the target from play (Devouring Maw, Gorge, Cocoon.) Spell Power Modifiers The following abilities and talents have been updated to have any percentage-based spell power modifiers stack additively when calculating damage: (This is the default behavior for all other abilities and talents unless otherwise stated in the tooltip) Zul’jin’s Buzzsaw (R) talent Hanzo’s Dragonstrike (R) center damage effect Gul’dan’s Rampant Hellfire (Q) talent The following abilities have had their tooltips updated to reflect that percentage-based spell power modifiers will stack multiplicatively when calculating damage: Kael’thas’ Phoenix (R) ability Nazeebo’s Vile Infection (Passive) talent Li Li’s Lightning Serpent (W) talent Li-Ming’s Arcane Orbit (W) talent Battlegrounds
Experience gains from Mercenary Camp captures have been unified. All Mercenary Camps now grant all Experience on capture. Dragon Shire: Dragon Shire has received updated Battleground art (including an updated Dragon Knight) New Hero: Orphea (Assassin)
Rejecting the dark power her father had begun to consort with, Orphea tried to run away from the Raven Lord's influence. But after witnessing King's Crest fall to his machinations, she was convinced she needed to stand and fight. She now vows to protect the innocent – as a Hero of the Nexus.
      Trait
Overflowing Chaos (Trait) Hitting an enemy Hero with a Basic Ability grants 1 Chaos. Chaos can stack up to 3 times. While Orphea has Chaos, her Basic Attacks against Heroes consumes all Chaos, dealing 50% increased damage per stack, and healing for 100% of the damage dealt. Basic Abilities
Shadow Waltz (Q) After 0.5 seconds, deal 150 damage to enemies in a line. Hitting a Hero with Shadow Waltz sets its cooldown to 2 seconds and causes Orphea to dash a short distance upon moving. Chomp (W) After 0.6 seconds, deal 285 damage to nearby enemies in front of Orphea. Dread (E) Release a wave of dread that deals 85 damage to enemies hit. Dread erupts 0.75 seconds after reaching the end of its path, dealing 175 damage and Slowing enemies in the area by 25% for 2 seconds. Heroic Abilities
Eternal Feast (R) After 1.5 seconds, deal 210 damage in an area. Eternal Feast repeats every 1 second as long as it hits an enemy Hero. Crushing Jaws (R) After 1.25 seconds, pulls enemies in an area towards the center, dealing 275 damage and Stunning them for 0.75 seconds. User Interface
Additional space for Heroes has been added to the Hero select screen. Fixed a number of tooltip issues and inaccuracies across the game. Fixed an issue with the Boost button being one pixel lower than the adjacent end-of-match buttons. We gathered the team, pooled resources, and after a lot of squinting at our monitors and a brief search for a magnifying glass, we’ve located the issue and boosted up the boost button to be in line with its neighbors. Thanks for paying such close attention! Heroes, Abilities, and Talents
Kerrigan: Fixed an issue that disabled Health and Mana regeneration during Chrysalis. The fourth Heroes of the Storm comic coincides with the release of Orphea, Heir of the Raven Court.
      Issue #4
We find out that Orphea's mother abandonded them when she was a child. The Raven Lord told Orphea that only he can contain the Dark Nexus, but she has her doubts.
"Why build a prison when no one is to be freed?"
      Orphea
Orphea always tries to solve problems in a destructive manner, but she's told to try thinking like her mother for once. She confronts her father who calls her an ungrateful brat.
"Just like your mother you fail to recognize that sacrifices must be made to save this impermanent world."
      The Raven Lord
Orphea defeats the Raven Lord at the end of the comic, but she knows it's not over yet.

Our Meta Tier List has been updated for the latest patch!
Welcome to Icy Veins's once-again-belated Meta Tier List for the October 16 patch, which also takes the latest October 31 patch into account. The goal of this list is to try and detail game's current metagame state. The prime goal of such lists is to inform players regarding popular and trending team composition drafting strategies (i.e. the drafting metagame). Although tier listings are generally the product of balance, many factors come into play when discussing the relative perceived strengths of heroes, including player regions, maps, play style, skill level, and, of course, personal perception. As such, any tier list—including this very one—should never be interpreted as gospel, but rather, as a guide to better grasp what to expect with regards to typical drafting experiences. One useful application of such lists is to allow you know which heroes to look out for in terms of practice and counterplay, ultimately improving your knowledge of the game.
      Using the list

Meta heroes define the metagame. They are very often banned or picked right away, as they generally dictate the pace of most drafts and matches.
Generalists form the core of your team and are generally picked after Meta picks have been distributed. They tend to work on most maps, and as part of and against most team compositions. Since this group includes most heroes, I elected to split it into three tiers. High-tier rankings are a result of performance (i.e. win rates) and popularity (i.e. pick and ban rates). This means that heroes with high win rates can be set in low tier; the opposite may also be true.
Situational picks shine on specific maps or as part of specific team compositions.
Our twenty-fourth Heroes of the Storm Meta Tier list for the month of November is here!
