Assault on Volskaya Foundry

18 posts in this topic

UXjZbIO.jpg

A new Overwatch event is heading to the Nexus. We're getting a new battleground called Volskaya Foundry and two Overwatch Heroes - Ana (versatile Support) and Junkrat (Assassin).

Volskaya Foundry

The frigid mechworks of Volskaya are a notorious hotbed for conflict and corporate backstabbing. On this frosty Battleground, the heroes of the Nexus vie to wrest control of enormous Protector mechs and blast their opponents to smithereens.

Features

Capture Points

  • Control points activate occasionally. Stand within them to capture them. Fully capturing a point grants you control of a giant mech.

Control the Protector

  • The Triglav Protector mech is controlled by two players: one pilot and one gunner. Work together!

Destroy Everything

The Protector's abilities deal incredible damage to structures and Heroes alike. Use it to lay waste to your enemy.

New Brawl

There's also a new single-lane Heroes brawl called Bash 'Em Smash 'Em Robots where robots run amok. Each team receives a Protector at the start of the game. Be careful with them - the Protectors respawn, but only after both have been destroyed.

New Heroes

Ana

  • A versatile Support who helped found the world-protecting team of heroes known as Overwatch.

Junkrat

  • An unpredictable Assassin and general miscreant who lives to cause chaos and destruction.

Volskaya Skins

Existing Heroes are getting new skins as usual. Here's a look at Commandant Varian and Shrike Ana.

Hey, that's pretty cool.

Mechs, cool skins, in-game events...

Sure, I guess people that don't like Overwatch are gonna be a bit upset.

Also, lil' joke from Blizzard with the D.Va Deathwing, not sure if you forgot to include it into the article or not.

2 OW heroes and none of them Hanzo who was "leaked" in that Resurrecting Kel'Thuzad video. Interesting.

Thankfully both of these looks to fit better than Hanzo will in a MOBA. I'm not happy about a full overwatch event with two more heroes, especially after the last one pretty much failed horribly.

Kinda surprised to see that Junkrat is an assassin, his kit reminds me more of a specialist than that (I guess FIrebat is the next specialist then). Also, what's the hate with Hanamura. Can someone explain it to me? Was it the bribe being way too OP on that map?

Edit : Kinda sad that we didn't get a new multi class hero, or an older hero reworked like that (looking at you Kharazim)

I appreciate that they bring a new map and heroes.

Sadly I'm not a great fan of OW and I would really like to see a Warcraft map instead. But that's just personal preferences and a hate towards the high (too high) mobility of the OW heroes making escape mechanism totally obsolete and it's rough for heroes who have dire need of them.

Yup, Warcraft maps would be nice. But I think it should happen soon perhaps, Starcraft, Diablo and now Overwatch got events with hero and maps release from their universe.

As for mobility, yeah, I think they got too crazy with the mobility of OW characters, especially Genji and his dashes that feel waaaay too long but well, Ana doesn't have any mobility in Overwatch so that's alright, I'm more scared for Junkrat, especially when seeing how he have some kind of flying rocket in the video, I wouldn't be surprised to see that being his second ultimate or something.

Oh my gods! The new D.Va skin looks AMAZING!!! <3<3<3<3!!!! The Varian one is cool too. We knew Ana was coming soon, but Junkrat is a surprise for sure. Now they just need to give Stitches a Roadhog skin and the OW duo will be back in action in HotS too :D. Kinda surprised they didn't do that with this upcoming event, but I suppose you wanna save some things for later too :p :).

I am loving the new heroes, skins and the Pachimari fever catches up to HotS too I see, but I have huge, HUGE doubts over this new map. Seen it being dubbed Hanamura 2.0 in twitch chat, and while it's early for speculation, it's those conveyor belts that raise a flag for me.

I don't know if anyone else remembers Ring of Valor, an arena map added in WotLK (or was it Cataclysm?) for WoW, which was eventually removed from the game entirely because of how many issues it had. Personally, it was the pet bugs for me with it, but things like charge pathing, having pillars with a huge height advantage and no way to get to the top, being feared and ended up getting stuck in the flame walls and people leaving the map boundaries. This whole talk of "we've tried to make everything we possibly can interact with these belts" is just asking for trouble imo, and I wouldn't be surprised if it gets universally hated in competitive, where if you perform an action, you expect that action to do something specific, not have it work in a weird way with the environment on one specific map like a bug, or having to work and think twice as hard to make your abilities work the way you want them to, or getting cheesed to death (they mentioned Gazlowe's turrets... would it also rotate his large radius bombs around? What about pets and summons movements?) I just remember this kind of stuff always being a pain in the arse to deal with in multiplayer games unless it's specifically designed around those mechanics in the first place.

Even if it has the potential to be the kind of crazy fun one might expect from HotS, other things like a 2 man vehicle and bribe camps are also contentious, and I worry that it might be forced on us for several weeks like Hanamura was, despite being acknowledged that it wasn't well balanced.

I don't even guess, how the map will be called in Russian. :D Завод им. Вольской? Волжский завод? Oh I know -- Волжский автозавод, ВАЗ! Because I believe that is the way they craft their autos -- fighting each other with magic and lasers!

God, I REALLY want Fenix bad...

It was pretty clear that Hanzo was in the bottom of the list of upcoming heroes, so he probably will come in the future, but there are probably quite some heroes to be added first (as Firebat or Alexstraza, who both was leaked in the Ressurecting Kel'thuzad videos)

Are you guys positive, this Ana skin is volskaya-themed skin? To me it looks like a skin from destiny 2.

Other than that, great news, everything looks fun about it.

It's a "regular" Ana skin, regular as it's a skin that Ana has in Overwatch, just like Lucio and his Frog skin are also in Overwatch.

It's not Volskaya themed, in fact it's a skin that is tied to the lore of Ana, and since Ana is egyptian if I'm not mistaken...

I just think they wanted to point out that we know that this Ana skin will be coming alongside the Volskaya-themed Varian skin.

It is her skin from her game, actually. It is her best skin too.

From what I remember, the guy that does all the leaks etc. had Alex/Hanzo both as due to be released later than Ana/Junk, so perhaps they're still in development alongside Firebat.

Voice chat is finally available in Heroes of the Storm and this post by Blizzard will guide you through the basics of the system.
All players must opt-in to join the team voice channel at the start of a game or upon entering a draft lobby. If you don't have a microphone, you will still be able to hear your team. The voice chat tab in the options menu can be used to adjust all settings to your liking. Use the Test button to hear how you'll sound in-game and don't forget to set up your Push-to-Talk Key.
      Blizzard (Source)
We’re excited to announce that voice communication is now available in Heroes of the Storm! Whether you find yourself in a draft lobby, partied with a friend or two, or with your whole squad in Team League, voice communication will free your hands from the shackles of typing and make it easier than ever to coordinate with your teammates. Before you head in-game to try it out, take a moment to learn how voice channels work in Heroes and get to know the various settings you can adjust to make voice communication your own.
      Team and Party Voice
We’ve added voice channels to Heroes of the Storm to accommodate both party voice and team voice. If you’re in a party, you’ll automatically be added to your party’s voice channel, and only party members will hear what you have to say. The opposite is also true: if you’re in a partial party and using the party voice channel, you’ll be unable to speak to or hear allies outside your party unless you switch to the team voice channel.
By default, all players must opt-in to join the team voice channel at the start of a game or upon entering a draft lobby. A notification will appear in chat to remind you that team voice is available, and you can click it to easily join the channel. Keep in mind that voice channels—even party voice—are completely optional. You can use the new voice chat tab in the options menu to adjust auto-join settings and notification sounds to your heart’s content.
      Voice Settings
Digging a bit further into voice settings, you can click the dropdown menus at the top to pick which device you’ll use to hear your allies’ voices, and set up the microphone you’d like to use for your own. You can click the Test button to hear how you’ll sound to your teammates in-game. However, even if you don’t have a microphone, you can still join party and team voice channels to listen-in as your allies make plans and shotcall.
As mentioned previously, the checkboxes under Auto-Join Voice and Notification Sounds on the left side of the voice chat options menu can be used to select which voice channels you’d like to join automatically during each game, as well as to enable or disable any voice notification sounds.
Click the Transmission Mode dropdown to decide whether you’d like to set your microphone to Push-to-Talk or Open Mic. When using push-to-talk, your allies will only hear you while you’re holding down your push-to-talk hotkey (the ` key by default). With open mic, they’ll hear everything you have to say. If you do opt for an open mic, you can adjust the sensitivity slider to stop your microphone from transmitting sound under a certain volume. Finally, run a quick test to make sure your mic is sounding good and your sensitivity is set correctly—broadcasting noise is a surefire way to get muted by your teammates!
In addition to push-to-talk, you can set up hotkeys to quickly switch between party and team voice channels, or to turn your microphone on and off.
      In-Game Voice
Outside of the voice chat options menu, you’ll see a voice widget appear in the top-left corner of most game menus. Clicking this widget will allow you to quickly join, switch, or leave a voice channel. Once you enter a game, you’ll find this widget on the tab screen.
You’ll also find microphone and speaker icons across from player names on the tab screen, which you can click to mute or unmute allies individually.
We’ve also added a new reporting option called Abusive Voice that you can use to report players specifically for misbehavior over voice. Additionally, we’ve implemented a voice silence penalty that’s separate from chat silence penalties. This means that players who are frequently reported for Abusive Voice can receive a voice silence, which will prevent them from speaking in team voice for the duration of that penalty. They can, however, still join the team voice channel to listen to allied comms, and can still join and use the party voice channel normally.
We hope the addition of voice in Heroes of the Storm will help you and your allies communicate more effectively on the road to your next string of victories, and perhaps make a new friend or two along the way.
Until next time, we’ll see you in the Nexus!

Blizzard implemented voice chat and applied balanced changes and various bug fixes in this week's patch.
Voice chat is now enabled on live servers and in addition to bug fixes, the following Heroes received balance changes:
Maiev: The latest changes are aimed at lowering her survivability and burst damage throughput. Malthael: Healing from Soul Ripping Minions decreased, Hero-only healing increased. Mana cost of Soul Rip has been increased to 25. Zeratul: Changes to basic & heroic abilities are meant to redistribute his damage, while giving the Hero a slight buff. Xul: Base stats have been buffed and split-push potential has been toned down. Sonya: Balance changes for Sonya were supposed to go live on January 24, but Blizzard's implemented them just now. The changes include a basic attack damage reduction, Poisoned Spear & Nerves of Steel talent adjustments. Blizzard (Source)
We’ve just released a patch to the live servers in order to implement Voice Communication, as well as apply some balance updates and bug fixes.
