New Expansion Announcement at BlizzCon 2017

This year already was amazing and i'm really excited about next expansion. I think we can calculate dramatic changes with legendaries and the artifact system. But i dont think we need another playable class or new races now.

Class, definitely not. Not for another full expansion at least. Race, perhaps. It doesn't really affect gameplay on a balance PoV, so it wouldn't cause too many problems.

(1) MoP was awful with changing toons - having the block of the legendary cloak was a serious difference in DPS.

(2)All expansions prior were only forgiving with changing if you weren't a legendary target. Got Shadowmourne........

(1)The amount of effort to get a alt raid ready has been significantly increased. There were always catch up mechanics for those leggos...and quite frankly afking in LFR in MoP/WOD for a leggo is not even in the same league. Yes, it took time but not game play time. LFR once a week until your leggo quest is caught up then get your guild to do a gear run for you.

(2) Pre-MoP leggo don't count for switching alts.  Quite frankly, if a person who got a leggo wanted to switch toons he should never have gotten the leggo in the first place. All guilds new who was getting the leggo and who was in the list to get the leggo.

(3)Switching toon/gearing alts has always been a time consuming process. No one will ever argue against that. People who do it are bonkers. But this expansion has significantly increased the game play time with AP farm and the leggo system.

But then surely if it is not gameplay time, it sucks even more. You couldn't brute force those MoP/WoD legendaries, because there was a hard cap on what you could get after a certain time each week. In Legion, in theory, you can spam absolutely every raid, dungeon, world quest, everything to get a chance at the legendary. You could play 24 hours per day, 7 days a week and keep getting legendaries (obviously you can't, but hopefully you see what I mean). This obviously isn't viable for a normal person to do, but you can still dedicate time and maximise potential for getting legendaries.

But then let's take the perspective of raiding on alts. Let's say your guild managed to clear Ulduar and gave your Shaman raid healer and Paladin tank healer Valanyr over the course of the tier. You come into ICC and suddenly are facing the Lich King, where Priest is suddenly incredibly strong due to the shields vs. Defile, but their general output as Disc is lower in any case than other healers.

It then means you are stuck using those 2 classes, in theory, because the effect from Valanyr allows you to two heal, while you can't manage two healing as Priest + Shaman. You are then forced to 3 heal, meaning you now lack the DPS to do the fight, basically because you need Valanyr on a Priest instead. You could recruit a Priest with Val already, but then who do you replace? If the Paladin got the mace first, I assume he was the most "deserving", but a Disc would replace a Paladin over a Shaman, since they sucked as raid healers.

Having targeted legendaries just made swapping for specific tactics so shit, because they "forced" you to be on a certain character and there was a minimum time that HAD to be invested to get it.

People who switch toons and gear alts are people that are either trying to find that right class to play, people that are gearing for split runs, people that enjoy the game but don't want to get burned out on only one character, or any other non-"bonkers" reasons.  Hell I have 3 characters sitting around 930, and 11 110's total which is possibly too many but not the most.  I also have multiple characters above 910 ilvl.  Am I bonkers? not at all, I just get so bored committing to one character for an entire 2 years that I would quit the game and never look back.  It's called liking variety, it's called having a main that you focus on and are committed to gearing/getting achievements over other characters, but to call someone "bonkers" for gearing alts or switching toons (which usually happens when the guild needs it or the character switches roles and the current character can't perform that role) is an asinine thought process that does not take into account the human nature of short to medium range attention spans.

Sorry to me it is bonkers :P

but that is purely my opinion.  I would not ever "switch" mains and can't even comprehend it. The day i stop playing me Huntard is the day i stop playing wow.

What are you trying to argue?  That right now in legion it is easier for someone to get a fresh level 110 to be marginal different then a main then any xpac before legion?

If they continue with this horrible legendary system, I'll probably skip this xpac. Blizzard said they wanted us to feel happy and excited when we got a legendary, but the frustation when you get a horrible one and your BiS one never come is huge. There is too much RNG right now (specially with the NLC now) and this isn't so good imo (I know this is a RPG, and RNG is normal, but still).

I think that in Legion, it is easier to swap mains by brute forcing it if you have enough time. If you don't have the time to do it, then the old, passive time block system was easier. I don't think either is good, but I think one was better for some and the other better for others.

Fair enough, everyone is entitled to their opinion.  And I get the not switching.  In my guild we have a warrior and rogue that absolutely will not play any other class (and spec in the rogues case) so yeah there are people like that, but they're much fewer and further between than those that do play alts and swap mains.  In my case as much as I love my hunter and demon hunter I was getting benched because I didn't have the legendaries to push past the plateau I was hitting (this is after going over logs and hours of practicing rotation).  For our first Heroic Kil'Jaeden kill I was on my hunter ONLY because I had an immunity and was ranged.  Next kill I got sat because we had enough immunities and my dps was lacking because of legendaries.  Next kill I was sat because my DH was lacking the legendaries to push my dps even 100k more.  We lost our off-tank and the GM asked me to level up a tank.  So I took my druid in and now I'm the guild's off-tank and never get benched because of it.  Additionally, I enjoy raid tanking because honestly... I'm better at it than I was dpsing.  Swapping chars and mains is a lot more common than people think.

I've considered quitting, but this is the first expansion that I've legitimately raided since MoP, and before that was TBC and early Wrath.  I hate LFR with a passion and will only do it if I have a quest for it that I can't complete any other way.  I agree about the RNG being out of control, and then with the NLC Blizzard thinks "We'll fix RNG with more RNG... It'll balance right?!?"  Ummm... No!... That's not the way this works.  2+2 does not equal the quadratic equation while calculating the required Fel energy required to power up the T.A.R.D.I.S. to travel to the Outer Limits after passing through Klingon space to get to the Twilight Zone.  (don't ask I was on a roll.... And yes I'm sure I just gave away my age)

Sub-races would be enough for me. I'd play a Darkfallen Blood Elf any day over a new race.

Why not Nightborne? Granted, with their own skeletons, and not re-used Nelf one

I assume they'd be on the Night Elf side of subraces - I'd prefer the San'layn model anyway :p

Prevents the holy crap I got an 860 to TF to 920 cuz I got super lucky and now everyone's jelly...

...but that very aspect helps offset the 'omg i dont have got BIS leggo' argument.

I'd say this is the single most balanced expac yet.  Bar none.

The new War Within Allied Races was added to the Alpha today and we already have a full look at not only all their customization options, but their dances as well, courtesy of MrGM! You can check out the Earthen's racial abilities here if you missed them earlier.
Let's start with the more dynamic feature, with both male and female dances:
And then there's big amount of customization options, as well as a size comparison with regular dwarves:

So, are we liking the new Allied Race overall? More than actual dwarves?

Here's a really cool possibility for the War Within, as a very subtle and mildly mysterious comment from Executive Producer and Vice President for WoW, Holly Longdale, may be hinting at our Warband characters getting a lot more involved in our travels!
First spotted by UlthansWrath, Longdale came up to Taliesin & Evitel at the recent London War Within Alpha press event and had a short chat about the Warband screen, when she casually said "wouldn't it be cool if those were the characters you took as your followers in your Follower Dungeons?" After the obvious confirmation from Taliesin and Evitel that, yes, yes it would be cool, she just said "hm" and that was the end of the conversation.
Obviously this isn't any sort of official confirmation, but considering this is a really awesome idea, it seems likely Blizzard are at the very least discussing it, if not already working on it.

The Warband system is already great, and this would add a lot to it for players that choose to go solo into dungeons, as it would give them even more motivation to get some great characters in their Warband - even if it was just a cosmetic option.
So, what do you think, will we be seeing this feature when the War Within launches?

Affliction is getting plenty of changes today as well, with Blizzard detailing the reasoning behind certain choices.
      Affliction (Source)
      Greetings Warlocks,
Today, we have various Core and Affliction tree changes hitting the Alpha. We want to take a moment to go a bit more in depth as to what certain changes were made and why. As a refresher, here are the goals for our Core and Afflictions that we posted last week along with some additional goals that we can dig into here.
      Class
Ensure each capstone is interesting and exciting. Reduce the amount of throughput talents, to free up utility choices. Reduce the number of ranks for talents that don’t warrant multiple ranks. Affliction
Address the tuning of Malefic Rapture in single-target and multi-target situations. Reduce complexity and the amount of active buttons that contribute to it. Erase the need to choose between a single-target or multi-target profile by adding more adaptability and flexibility. While we cannot go over every change here, we’d like to get a bit more detailed than last week’s update and explain some of the bigger changes coming in this build.
      Class Tree Throughput
We’re removing a lot of throughput talents from the class tree to allow warlocks to pick up more utility without feeling forced to take mandatory talents to be competitive. These talents aren’t compelling options when placed against utility as they will always be the right answer to have. This allows us to move that power into the specialization trees and tailor throughput-centric talents to be specific to that specialization’s gameplay.
      Malefic Rapture
In addition to becoming baseline for Affliction, we are introducing new talents that will help Malefic Rapture become the go-to spender for both single-target and multi-target situations. This should also shift Seed of Corruption to being a means to apply Corruption to multiple targets rather than what you spam in dungeons. In addition, we are redesigning Siphon Life to be friendlier to Affliction’s rotation and expect that its new design will make it easier to optimize Malefic Rapture.
      Affliction’s Adaptability
While we do want Affliction warlocks to have a preferred talent setup for single- versus multi-target situations, we don’t want it to feel like they are powerless if they are in the opposite situation. By focusing on Malefic Rapture being Affliction’s main spender and removing talents that are only valuable in multi-target situations (Soul Flame, Soul Swap, Doom Blossom, etc.), we’re hoping that the Affliction tree feels less punishing to fill out.
      Is This It?
Not at all. We expect to make changes based on feedback and our own playtesting. We want to get the ball rolling on changes we knew we want to make, so we could start the discussion early on and make adjustments before The War Within launches.
Thank you all for the continued discussions and we look forward to your feedback!
And here are the full changes from the development notes:
