7.3 Elemental Shaman PvP Guide

Recommended Posts

Hi ya'll - My Mission is to a make EVERYONE comfortable in PvP and have FUN knowing they're playing their class well, and are able to help contribute to the team. This should decrease the amount of griefers, salty dogs, ragers, and quitters in PvP throughout arena / bgs!! It's my goal <3

Pushing towards that I wanted to share a PvP Guide I've put together breaking down talents, honor talents, and how to do the rotation for Elemental Shaman. I hope it helps you guys and gives you an edge in PvP. I'll be putting together some more to help break more pieces of PVP.

Elemental shaman are at the BEST place they've been in for PATCHES!! So it's a great time to push rating and try some different comps out!!

My top 3v3 comps:

1) Boom + Ele + MW/Hpal

2) Destro + Ele + Heals

3) Sub + Ele + HPriest

4) Ele + War + Rdruid

5) Spriest + Ele + Heals

My top 2v2 comps - anything other than these is kind too hard to handle with how often there are melee in 2v2.

1) MW + Ele

2) Rogue + Ele

3) Ele + Rdruid

4) Ele + Hpriest

Let me know what works for you and what doesnt!!

The future guides will include

1) Arena Guide - dealing with positioning, when to do damage, communicating , and key addons that will help you

2) Battleground Guide - what specs work for each map, little tips and tricks per map type, and how to communicate with your teammates well

3) UI - reviewing how different UI setups can REALLY enhance your pvp gameplay

4) Keybinds and Macros - Trying to call out the little changes you can make that can make a big difference, and things you may not be thinking about for Macros/keybinds that could blow your mind.

      Who we are:
We are a group of people who in each of our communities, have been gaming together for over a decade each.  We know what it means to be family, we know what it means to be there for each other.  Nothing says community like being able to log on to our voice server after a long hard day and be able to unwind in a hassle-free environment.  Our leadership is more than willing to help any individual who need tips or just an ear to listen.  Come join us, and you'll find out just what we are for yourself.
      Our Goal as a Guild:
Our goal is simple, to be one of the best guilds in Classic.  We are not talking race to WF, but to be the best guild to just be a part of.   A helpful place to level with others, grind out a few dungeons, or to tear it up in BGs, once they go live.  We will never define ourselves as "hardcore".  We are an adult community with families and jobs.  We expect any applicants to be at least 18+ and be able to speak English.
      Recruitment:
We are recruiting all classes and roles.  Being that classic has 40m endgame content, we will need a large roster to fill out that group.  Even going into PvP as well as PvE content as it is released, you'll need plenty of people to fill in for absent members.
Loot system is a modified Suicide Kings priority.
Guild Raids will begin in the next week or two and will be Tues/Weds 12a-2am EST (optional third day as well)

      Introduction
This build is fairly interesting, and relies on two commonly overlooked aspects of the Necromancer's kit. The first being Maltorius' Petrified Spike, a legendary item that boosts your bone spear by 700%, and Bone SpearTeeth, a skill that sprays half the map in death and shoddy dentistry. The Spike itself has fairly terrible stats, but it's unique ability and enough intelligence make up for this aspect.

      Gameplay and Strategy
This is a very easy build to execute and yields extraordinarily high results. It's more of a medium range build, with plenty of variance as it only relies on a small combo. The rest of the build is mostly just to optimize the amount that you can use Bone SpearTeeth and making sure you survive well, with a fair bit of boss killers, such as Command SkeletonsFrenzy and Corpse LanceBrittle Touch. You can alter the range and play style with substitutions, and overall this is a very solid and general build for beginners and experienced players alike.

Your main combo rotation is going to be using  SimulacrumReservoir and spamming Bone SpearTeeth. Then follow up with Corpse LanceBrittle Touch to finish off any remaining units. Corpse lance does not consume any essence to cast, and is very resource efficient while still dishing out significant damage. You may ask, why pick these runes. Well, Reservoir provides more resource, Brittle Touch helps with higher health bosses, and Teeth is actually a bit complicated. Now this may be a bug, but it certainly seems like the splinters from Bone SpearTeeth do too much damage, especially when combined with Maltorius' Petrified Spike. Because of this damage, you can easily clear massive waves and bosses alike.
Your other core skill is going to be Blood Rush. Every class ought to have a mobility skill in order to more efficiently clear floors and to speed up your farming. I prefer to use Molting to start a Corpse Lance chain in adventure runs, but the rune you choose is mostly up to preference. Potency is also a powerful rune, especially if you choose the close range variant of this build

Other skills include your essence regain, either Grim ScytheDual Scythes or Siphon BloodPower Shift.  I like Dual Scythes simply because its a larger area (and therefor more essence), pulls enemies in front of you, and efficiently lines up the highest damage Bone SpearTeeth. An alternative to Dual Scythes is Grim ScytheExecution or Grim ScytheCursed ScytheSiphon BloodPower Shift is an excellent choice for melting bosses when low on essence. Other options include Siphon BloodSuppress, Siphon BloodBlood Sucker, or Bone SpikesBlood Spikes. Your choice of basic attack will determine your range for this build. Keep in mind that Teeth does more damage close up (like a shotgun) but due to Maltorius' Petrified Spike you can still use it at a range to great effect. For your non-combo damage ability, you want to choose based on your range. If you choose Siphon Blood, pick Command Skeletons with either Frenzy or Kill Command. If you choose Grim Scythe, go with either Bone ArmorDislocation or Death NovaBlight. Death nova does significant AOE damage, while Bone Armor is primarily a defensive skill, especially useful to preserve your Blood Rush cooldown. I personally prefer Frenzy for ranged and Bone ArmorDislocation for a closer range build.

      Passives
Your passives will once again depend on your variant of the build. You will want Overwhelming Essence and Blood is Power regardless, but the other two slots will vary.  Overwhelming Essence and Blood is Power are both integral skills to any ability and cooldown-based build. You want to minimize your cooldowns, and despite the intimidating requirement of Blood is Power, it triggers rather often. It counts premitigation damage, meaning damage before your armor and resistances. In any high level battle, you will proc this passive often. Overwhelming Essence is rather straightforward, as it simply increases your resource.

For the close range variant, I would recommend Stand Alone and Draw Life. Together, these passives will make you significantly more bulky and make up for a lack of sustain within your skills. An alternative to Draw Life is taking Life from Death and DevourSatiated over Corpse LanceBrittle Touch. This will somewhat lower your damage to bosses, but provide for more spam and sustain overall.
For the range variant, I would Aberrant Animator and Final Service. These both combine nicely with your Command Skeletons, while Final Service helps to improve your general lack of tankiness. Aberrant Animator gives your skeletons double your Thorns damage, while Final Service is your cheat death mechanic.
      Skill list
A- Grim ScytheDual Scythes/Siphon BloodPower Shift
      B- Bone SpearTeeth
      X-  Command SkeletonsFrenzy/ Command SkeletonsKill Command/Bone ArmorDislocation/Death NovaBlight
      Y-  Corpse LanceBrittle Touch
      ZL-SimulacrumReservoir
      ZR-Blood RushMolting/Blood RushPotency

      Passives
Overwhelming Essence Blood is Power Stand Alone / Aberrant Animator Draw Life / Life from Death / Final Service
Now, into the parts that honestly don't matter nearly as much. Most of the build is in your hands, now this is just the nitpicky optimizations that I will honestly spend far too much/little time on. For the next sections I will be discussing gear, gems, Kanai's Cube, and paragon points.
For Gear I recommend going for a Legacy of Dreams build. This is rather standard, gives you an insane damage boost, and overall is versatile and workable. Make sure that you haveMaltorius' Petrified Spike. Another recommendation is your helm. Leoric's Crown is ideal for general battling, but Broken Crown is my preference for base gem farming, for hopefully obvious reasons. Honestly, just use common sense. LoD builds are incredibly player dependent, and you can build them just about however you want. Just prioritize whatever will feed into the general gameplan of spamming SimulacrumReservoir and Bone SpearTeeth.
For Kanai's Cube, you want to slot in Reilena's Shadowhook as your weapon, Krysbin's Sentence for jewlery, and the worse of either Reaper's Wraps or Nemesis Bracers. Shadowhook scales your damage based on your maximum essence, and with Overwhelming Essence and SimulacrumReservoir you're pretty well maxed out on your essence.
For Paragon Points you want to basically use common sense. This build is an ability spam build with limited sustain. Play to that. For example, you want to invest heavily into Essence, Cost Reduction, and Cooldown reduction. As far as defense, I recommend investing in armor so that Blood is Power is easier to proc.
For  Gems you should put Bane of the Trapped, Enforcer, and Legacy of Dreams in your ring slots. Zei's Stone of Vengeance is a solid alternative. For your Helm, slot in  Flawless Royal Topaz to provide resource cost reduction or Flawless Royal Diamond for CDR. Personally, since this is a teeth build you should go Topaz. For your weapon, you should go Flawless Royal Topaz if going the ranged build, and Flawless Royal Emerald for the close range build. And for your other slots, you should go (you guessed it) Flawless Royal Topaz. In my honest opinion, Topaz is the best base gem for necromancer. It provides Intelligence, thorns, and resource reduction. Sure, the thorns are only especially ridiculous with Aberrant Animator but once again, topaz is a godsend for Necromancer.

Changelog: 10/2/19 Fixed some grammar errors, clarified poor usage, and added more details to the build

**Raid Times:** Tues, Weds 9pm - 12am ET
**Goals:** Rekindle our romance with Vanilla by forming a close knit, active family of gamers. We will be focusing on raiding content as it's released, clearing content in a respectable manner, being one of the top guilds on our server. Beyond raiding we will be doing plenty of World PvP and pre-made BGs; if it's red, it's dead! We will choose a high-pop NON-STREAMER server.
**Sup?:** We have **vast experience in Vanilla raiding or obtained Rank 12+ in PvP**. We also have members that are just looking for an active and friendly community to call home and that's what we offer. **We are very active, chatting throughout the day and night, playing on beta or private servers, honing out our skills and learning to play with one another while we wait for launch.** We are a large family, just like Vanilla, where everyone works together for the common good, and everyone knows everyone. We're playing on Nighthaven while we await Classic's launch. Come play with us on NH and in Classic!
**Needs:** We're looking for additional experienced Vanilla raiders. That said, if you aren't familiar, but you're willing to read, listen, learn, or just want to come and have fun with us, we still want you.

Guild History | Guild Code | Apply

Established in 2009, Cyrus is a guild with its roots in MMO games reaching back to Warhammer Online. We are an organised and dedicated guild completely committed to getting the best out of our players while trying to keep track of where the fun is. We aren't afraid to put the hard work in, try out new strategies and we certainly aren't the type to give up after the first wipe - we will adapt, refocus and find a way to reach our objective.
Although Cyrus has at times been considered an elite guild, we are certainly not looking for elitist players. We value teamwork and positive attitude far more than individual ego and rhetoric. We recognise that we are only as good as those we run with, and that means if we want to improve we must improve not only ourselves but those around us. This is not achieved through bragging, whining or quitting - it's achieved through patience, practise and hard work. It's not about how good any individual is, it's about how good your group is and how you can work with others to improve it.
Cyrus is not a casual guild, and we have been greatly put off by the increasingly casual nature of MMOs recently. To us, guild and realm pride should mean something. We don't spam invite players, we ask members to apply to join us because they see something in us that they want to participate in. And in return, we work tirelessly to place the right people in the right groups, increase our players awareness and knowledge of the game and their class, and to organise varied and epic guild events that we will remember for years to come.
If you are looking to make your journey through World of Warcraft Classic legendary, and you are prepared to put the time and effort in to maximise not only your own, but your teams play style and skill, then Cyrus is the guild for you. You will need a thick skin, a good sense of humour, the discipline to know when to speak up and when to shut up, and the dedication to constantly evolve and improve.

This is a condensed version of our guild history. To read the full version, please click here.
We started life in Warhammer Online in March 2009 (originally called Exodus) and became the largest and most active Order PvP guild on the Karak-Norn server. We played a central role in co-ordinating our faction, hosting cross-alliance community initiatives to try and bring the many guilds and alliances on the server together in an attempt to take the fight to the numerically superior Destruction side.

Cyrus in Warhammer, known as Exodus. We fought for Order on Karak-Norn
We later moved to Aion where we became a top 10 ranked Elyos PvP guild on the Perento server. Intending to pursue our enjoyment of PvP, we were one of the primary guilds in the early days of the game, however the severe PvE grind and lack of meaningful PvP content meant that our player base changed somewhat and we became more of a PvE guild with occasional raids in the Abyss. We refocused when the ground PvP patch was released and had a lot more fun.

Cyrus in Aion. We fought for Elyos on Perento. Embracing the grind…
In Rift we combined these two playstyles and became unquestionably the most successful and talked about PvP guild on our server, all the while maintaining competitive PvE raids that cleared all content in the game. We were yet again the leading guild when it came to organising our faction, setting up server-wide PvP events to increase participation and enjoyment for all in the game.
Such was our success in the PvP lakes that we eventually ran out of opposition to fight against, so we transferred servers looking for new challenges. Our influence was so great that most guilds from both factions followed our move, and within a few weeks our previous server was transformed from the busiest EU PvP server to a trial realm!

Cyrus in Rift. We fought for Guardians on Whitefall. We dominated the PvP until everyone else quit crying.
After a brief spell in SWTOR, which was completely awful, we moved to World of Warcraft (Horde, Stormscale) in 2012. While we obviously didn’t find any Open World PvP, we did enjoy the challenges of running three Rated Battlegrounds teams, with the occasional Raid to pass the time. During our first full Rated Battlegrounds season we managed to take a group of mostly new-to-WoW players to a legitimate 2200+ rating, something that was not so simple to do as a guild in this game with all the win-traders and cheats.

Cyrus in WoW. From zero to 2200+, proving the doubters wrong!
Since then, we have dabbled in Final Fantasy XIV and been back to WoW. But these were the beginning of barren times, as games such as Guild Wars 2 and Wildstar, which should have been natural homes for guilds such as ours, failed to deliver on expectations. In 2016 we launched 'Club Cyrus' - a more casual multiplayer gaming initiative enabling us to at least play something together - Rocket League, The Division, Chivalry, Ghost Recon, etc. And while these games each gave us many hours of light entertainment, we have always yearned for an MMO to come along and do it old-school again, to give us a real home to stick with and build our characters and guild over 1000's of hours. Something that requires old-school effort, commitment and team work. Something that can help us escape our drab real lives, and instead transform into better looking, more in-shape, possibly even female (!) avatars with gloriously pixelated wardrobes that speak of our daring and courageous deeds on the virtual battlefield!

A typical Cyrus group lines up for a picture: Bruce, Dave, Steve, Alan and Dan.

      WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
While we have a strong core that are committed to giving up their social lives from August 27th, we need more bodies to throw on the pile. That’s where you come in! Cyrus is an 'old school' MMO guild, and we are looking for members who want to become part of a greater community, who want to put the effort in and earn their achievements rather than get carried.
We are looking for intelligent, active and friendly players to join our ranks. In World of Warcraft Classic, we are hoping to create a successful guild with outstanding organisation, solid progression and a shared objective. We want dedicated and reliable players who are in it for the long haul, who will not quit at the first or second hurdle, and will hold out for the payoff that such a team of players deserve. No elitism, no egos, and plenty of patience, reality and understanding. Ok, maybe a little bit of elitism!
Members should take the time to learn their class and skills, and how they can best benefit their guild teams. Being an excellent individual player is great, but it is far more important to be an excellent team player, to follow instructions, and to know when to stop joking around, focus, and stop standing in the lava! Your goals should be that of the guild as a whole, not of yourself.
Members are required to use Discord and have a clear, working microphone. We welcome members from all over the world, however we do ask that in guild chat and Discord English is used at all times.

      WHAT WE CAN OFFER
Cyrus is an experienced, focused, progression-based guild for mature, skilled and team-orientated players. We offer Discord voice communications with a mostly family-friendly atmosphere, as well as our own website which is used to organise pretty much everything we do. We have a long-established leadership who is committed to getting the most out of our members and ensuring everyone is working towards their own and the common goals of the guild.

Guild levelling PvP event in Rift. If you haven't experienced being in a really great guild before, get it right for WoW Classic!
We have a strong community spirit, and thanks to our successful recruitment in previous games, a very welcoming attitude towards new members of any experience level so long as they are prepared to put the time in. We do not form cliques, and we do not favour members based on their time or rank within the guild.
While Cyrus’ main objective will be clearing raid content, we are a guild steeped in the rich tradition of PvP and as such, you can expect organised Battlegrounds and World PvP nights. Our current plan is to raid two evenings per week, provisionally on Wednesdays and Sundays.

      HOW TO APPLY
If this sounds like your kind of guild, then please check out our website, read our Guild Code, and feel free to apply on our forums. Please also feel free to include any questions you may have with your application.
