Subraces Coming to World of Warcraft?

Recommended Posts

0OsdqIE.jpg

It seems like Blizzard is planning to implement subraces in the next expansion.

One of the game files (ChrRaces.db2) contains new entries for the following subraces:

  • Nightborne (Imagine Suramar Elves)
  • Highmountain Tauren (Screenshots)
  • Void Elf (Imagine Void Alleria)
  • Lightforged Draenei (Argus NPCs)

Credit to KayRule and the Red Shirt Guy for his write-up (based on KayRule's post).

Stay tuned for more information at BlizzCon! The next expansion will be revealed at 12:30 PM PDT (8:30 PM CET) on November 3.

Hoping for something like this for a while :)

...if they're actually doing it.

Would be cool to play the Taunka or Eredar.

My only concern is for characters that are already made. They will most likely have to stay their normal version unless you want to put out some money to get the cosmetic changes.

Hopefully blizzard would allow us to change the sub race of one or 2 of our characters for free before they implement it as part of the race change payment?

I just want any Horde races that don't have a ridiculous hunch-back. Dark Ranger undead-subrace would be great.

This was discovered on MMO-Champion. It even says so on the blizzplanet post you linked.

Kind of sucks that the guys who actually found this out aren't getting any credit here just because someone well-known like Red Shirt Guy reported on it first.

Update: Nevermind, found and added!

Hello, @Caaethil. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Would you please link the MMO-Champion post? The only one I found was linking to Red Shirt Guy's article. I'll update the article with proper credit.

I hope Blizzard adds new playable races. Given how the next expansion will most likely be based on Kul Tiras, with ships and water-themed stuff, I really want to see Naga and Tuskarr.

As for race customizations, I would DIE to have the option to play as Earthen Northrend Dwarves and Mechagnomes.

Some people also want High Elves, but what I want is...

I'm 100% down for Mechagnomes. Maybe some retaking of Gnomeregan.

It sucks for pandarens (best race imo) cause they probably won't have any subrace

True, but they're easily one of the most unique and arguably least played or seen races in the game to this day. I suppose Furbolg could be considered a distant cousin, but I remember the Hozen and Jinyu from MoP too; a lot of shared history with the Pandaren there.

At least for me, it seems more logical that these are new races that sub races for a few reasons:

It's easier to add a new race to the game in the already existing system while for a new way of customizing, they would need to change the character menus.

I believe that if blizzard would add the concept of sub races, they would add it for every race, and not for a few ones.

<Personal question> What would/should be the difference of a race and a sub race past the character creation?

I have always been saying in chat when the discussion of new playable races comes up that blizz should have half breeds like in D&D for  us to play! Hell even make them a 3rd faction to play and give the game a new twist! Give them their own continent!

I would assume slightly different race passives, that end up with a very similar effect, but possibly with a different name and slightly tweaked. Shadowmeld for Void Elf might be something to do with hiding in the Void, with a new animation.

A different voice would be pretty nice too.

Yeah, I would hope they treat it as a new race other than with the models. Use the same base, make it look different and give it modified things for everything else. Doesn't need a new voice, just a modified one to reflect the change.

Scripe, the Raid Leader of Method and Guild Master of Echo, admitted he was involved in real money trading with the Gallywix boosting community.
Blizzard recently suspended some members of the Gallywix boosting community that were involved in exchanging gold for real money.
Today, Scripe confirmed that he decided to buy gold directly from Gallywix instead of buying WoW tokens, and the agreed exchange rate was apparently 50 USD/EUR for 1 million gold, based on the following spreadsheet posted on Reddit.
Placeholder for tweet 1290652868115128322 In case the above tweet gets deleted.

For the World First Ny'alotha Race progression when there was no Corruption Vendor, Method needed to buy BoE items with the best Corruption Effects for millions of gold across all servers and transfer them to Tarren Mill.
The total expenses for BoE items and WoW tokens came to a whopping 128,473,245 gold, and you can find a list of all items the guild purchased here.
Core members of Method raid team have reformed as Echo and the guild is lead by Scripe.

SauceISR discovered something strange going on in Quel'thalas on the Shadowlands Beta.
There is a Void Elf-like shield (skybox?) in one of the areas in Quel'thalas. It currently has no spawns/NPCs, and we do not know what purpose it should fulfill. Maybe it was intended for Void Elves at some point but was later scrapped during development. What do you think? Anyway, it's a cool find! You can check out MrGM's video of the skybox below.

It seems there have been some issues with a few servers and the connections between Garona and Icecrown and Malygos won't happen tomorrow as planned, but at a later date.
      Realm Connections (source)
Due to a previously unforseen issue, we have decided to hold off on connecting Garona to Icecrown+Malygos until a later date, to be determined. The other listed realm connections will go ahead as planned tomorrow. The connections still happening tomorrow after extended maintenance:
      Realm Connections (source)
During a special maintenance period (currently planned for 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. PDT (10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. EDT) on Thursday, August 13), the following realm connections will be made:
The Frostwolf and Vashj realms will join Drak’Tharon, Firetree, Malorne, Rivendare, Spirestone, and Stormscale . The Blackrock realm will join the Azjol-Nerub and Khaz Modan realms. The Bloodscalp, Boulderfist, Maiev, and Stonemaul realms will join the Quel’dorei and Sen’jin realms. Garrosh will join Aegwynn, Bonechewer, Daggerspine, and Hakkar. We are planning more realm connections for low-population realms, and we will post further notifications like this one in the coming weeks.
      Thank you!

Mirror of Envious Dreams is an interesting costume toy from Revendreth that makes your character permanently (for now) wear the full Tier 3 or Tier 6 sets even though you don't physically possess the items that form the set. The item currently has no cooldown on the Beta.

The toy comes from a chest in Revendreth's starting area. The illusion has a 10-minute duration,  no cooldown, and remains on during combat and mounting.
Using the toy makes your character randomly wear either the full Tier 3 or the Tier 6 set.

We're not sure if the toy will go live in its current form, but it will probably be limited by cooldown as it would be unfair to those who bought the Tier 3 pieces through the Black Market Auction House.
Thanks to @Blainiefor the tip and images.
