Heroes Brawl - Blackheart's Revenge: Jan 5

Recommended Posts

Blackheart seeks revenge against the Commodore in the first attack/defend battleground! Everyone starts at level 10, no other talents besides Heroics are available. Play two games to earn a Winter Veil Chest.

There's a small chance of all players being the same Hero.

Assist a salty revenge-fueled pirate in his other-worldly quest to destroy the docks, or send him to a watery grave with the aid of some spectral cannonballs. This week’s Heroes Brawl is Blackheart’s Revenge, and no matter which side you take, it’s sure to be an explosive match!

Rules:

  • Choose from one of three randomly selected Heroes before entering the Docks. Be quick about it though, you only have 30 seconds to choose!
  • Everyone will begin the round at level 10 and will be asked to choose a Heroic Ability. No other talents will be available.
  • You will either be placed on the Attacking or Defending team and will be responsible for aiding Blackheart in his quest for revenge, or preventing the destruction of the Docks
    • Attackers will be responsible for preventing Defenders from firing Cannons at Blackheart’s ship
    • Defenders will gather Cannonballs and fire them at Blackheart’s ship via Cannons placed around the Battleground
  • After the first round, teams will switch sides and the displayed health on Blackheart’s Ship will be adjusted to show the amount of Cannonballs the defending team must fire to beat their opponent’s score and win the round.
  • The team to fire the most shots at the enemy ship will be victorious, unless both teams fire zero or the maximum of 5 Cannonballs, which will result in ties.

Rewards:

  • Complete two matches of the Blackheart's Revenge to earn a Winter Veil Chest!

Every single battleground or brawl involving Blackheart Bay has been singly awful beyond measure. It's uncanny, every time they try to make something out of that map it just turns to lead in their hands. Even Hanamura had one brawl variant that was at least breezy fun, and that BG was universally reviled. But Blackheart?

Thank god Blizzard at least have the sense to not include it in ranked rotation.

I really hate this Brawl. The idea behind it is nice, but it's so easy to snowball. At least the matches are fast.

Yeah, you either dominate or get dominated.  Had a few games where we snuck a turn-in, but that's fairly rare.  But yeah, at least it's fast.

This brawl is a perfect example of why people hate brawls. All of these brawls favor insanely a select chosen few heroes over all others. So, if you happen to have that hero, or some of these few, the game becomes a stomp because no one can stop you. Conversely, if you don't have that hero and the other team has it, it becomes utterly unwinnable and boring.

In the Terror Arena brawl for example, good tanks with heavy cc like Johanna or ETC, and big AOE mages like Jaina and Kael'thas dominate, as the teams are forced to clump up perpetually in a narrow space to obtain the seeds (and my go-to counterpick for that kind of shenanigans, Tyrael, doesn't work well as Sanctification has a huge cooldown). In this one, it's the high mobility assassins like Genji and Tracer. However Zeratul makes a particularly obnoxious pick if you are defending, as not only he can pick cannonballs and gtfo with blink, he can ALSO trap a team inside a Void Prison for a long time. Yeah, I suspect Medivh works in a similar fashion.

Other hero choices are really horrible, such as Abathur who can only support teammates from afar, with a weakened hat (since you cannot pick other talents besides the heroic, you cannot even heal with it).

And of course I had to have the infamous "10 Probiuses" matchup. I instaraged there; I'm not ashamed to admit it in the least. I have a disastrous experience with an all Probius brawl in BHB and I know how frustrating it is.

@Leadblast

You are over analyzing this. Most brawls are complete rng. It doesn't matter if you have desired hero on specific map if the person playing it has 50 lev and didn't play 1 game with it. And that's the biggest issue in brawls. The fact that you choose randomly 3 out of 70 heroes and that high lev players are mixed with complete noobs. If you have 2 guys in team that are low levels it means they won't be able to play their chars. And that's proly game.

That's not different from QM. Of course you WILL lose if you have no idea how2p your hero, no matter how strong in the map it is. What I said there was assuming all players know how to use their heroes to a reasonable extent.

Deathwing will be nerfed in a future balance patch. We're looking at more general nerfs across the board, mainly to Destroyer form, overall talent tuning, and some World Breaker buffs.

      Hey Calcaz!
We get enough data, even with a massive ban rate. Of course, as more data comes in we’re more confident with where things sit, but we have always had enough data to make educated changes before the first balance patch after a new hero release. After the first balance patch, we always have an even more clear picture of where things stand since we have that much more time for data to come in.
      Balance patch is looking good!
For Deathwing, more general nerfs across the board, particularly to Destroyer form. Also some World Breaker buffs and talent tuning.
Can’t confirm dates. Confirming dates is the path to the dark side.
