Destro lock, simcraft and strange scale factors.

Hello,

 

I've been trying out SimCraft and I get very strange results. I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong.

 

I get the following scale factors:

Billain Int=6.37(0.14) SP=4.91(0.14) Hit=5.23(0.15) Crit=3.24(0.14) Haste=3.64(0.14) Mastery=3.14(0.14)

 

And the ranking goes:

Int > Hit > SP > Haste > Crit ~= Mastery

 

I find this to be strange since I've heard mastery is the best stat.

Don't think you are doing anything wrong, I just think that simcraft uses a single target base for its simulations and in that case Haste is not terrible. your haste is sooo low, that it is advising you to get some more. Not a big deal. With affliction as your OS, I would recommend going for the 9778 haste rating (with bindings equipped it will be less). Your call. Just remember, for an overview of SOO as a raid priority of secondaries should be Mastery then Crit>=Haste. Since your haste is so low in comparison to your other secondaries AND you don't have the legendary meta gem, it is advising more haste to balance it out.

SimC has been spitting out some really weird stuff lately. Personally, I stopped using it a long time ago because it was so random and almost always flew in the face of what I was seeing in my own logs and the logs of the 20+ other warlocks that I stalk. 

 

The other day it was telling Zag that haste stacked demo was the best DPS out of all the specs and that aff was ~40k behind it. We all know that is 100% bullshit, SimC said it anyways.

 

I have no idea WHY SImC is saying such weird stuff, other than the normal SimC is a perfect condition setting run by a computer that can in no way reflect the human controller nor the real world environment it is in. 

 

Imo, when 99 out of 100 of the top warlocks in the world say/do something as what is "best" for the class/spec, they will be correct. No matter what a program tells you.

 The aff bug makes sense as to why it was saying some odd stuff and then it all changed, but again like I said, Zag says, Spark says, SimC is a single target program that gives data on very limited lab like settings that have almost no reflection on real world situations. 

 

Moreover, I strongly question the program when it says something like Demo being almost perfectly instep with destro. This *could* be right, but I'd need to see some real world evidence of it before giving it much weight. A quick look at WoL shows demo a big leap behind destro and Aff (I'm looking at heroic Malk and heroic Iron Jug as they are the two least gimiky fights). The SimC is being run in what I assume to be BiS T16 gear and the people on WoL likely do not have *perfect* BiS but many of them should be getting damned close, the EU 25man guilds there are a lot of warlocks sitting at BiS or a few items away from it.

 

This seems to be a big gap between SimC and real world, larger than what is commonly seen.

Rasensa has Heroic Bindings.  I'm pretty sure LFR Bindings outperform the rest of the Heroic trinkets for Demonology.  Top parses are heavily RNG influenced.  I'm sure if I dug in, I'd find some outlying uptimes on things.  RNG is too rampant right now to figure out what is best.  There's always going to be a theoretical best with optimal uptimes, but the more RNG involved, the less I can really get behind anything in terms of comparisons.

 

Destruction's RNG = 2set

Affliction's RNG = Nightfall, 4pc

Demonology's RNG = Doom crits, 2pc, 4pc

 

All three take Bindings, so there's a little RNG taken away.  I just can't get behind any singular parse in the grand scheme of how things are performing.

Not sure why you're all mad but okay.

 

SimC is limited. SimC is looked at as being almost biblical by a lot of people, when it isn't. It's a tool, nothing more. 

 

To many times I see people Sim and re-sim and re-re-sim, just to find the "answer" to their problem when it just doesn't work that way.

 

SimC is a just a tool, a tool that most people don't fully understand or are informed about. It should never be seen as perfect or infallible

Things SimCraft can do:

 

Assess a "perfect" priority list and compute scale factors and reforge plots based on a purely single target situation.

 

Things SimCraft cannot do:

 

Realistically model any known fight.

 

Account for the decision making power of humans that determines the true playstyle, such as snapshotting procs and launching monster Chaos Bolts by using them only under procs.

 

SimCraft can be useful occasionally for comparing things in a single-target fight, so long as you understand how that translates into the actual fights you're doing that will only be somewhat single target with irregular movement for avoiding mechanics, adds spawning occasionally, bosses disappearing for a bit, etc.

Thanks for all the replies and explanations.

 

I understand SimCraft is limited. I was using a SimCraft guide posted by Evrelia, but I think I somewhat misunderstood how to use it properly (or whether to use it at all).

 

I could go for the first haste breakpoint, although I never actually play as affliction, so perhaps it would be wasted stats if it meant I had to reforge out of mastery. I guess I could reforge some crit to haste, as they seem to be even.
