Maiev Shadowsong Hero Reveal: Jan 25

The final teaser from Twitter revealed Maiev Shadowsong as the next Hero to enter the Nexus.

Two days ago, Blizzard started teasing a new Hero. Previous Hero leaks hinted at Mal'Ganis and Belial, but after the second teaser, the community started speculating it might as well be Maiev. Blaze went down to 10,000 Gold this week and we're wating for Maiev to hit test servers soon. The Hero Spotlight is coming Friday, January 26 after HGC EU match 1.

I doubt she'll get that. Like many people have said, her W3 basic skills are too similar to Zeratul's in hots (or should I say zera is too similar to her), even if she has the original abilities, the functionality and behavoir might be very different - like KTZ's Frost Nova and Death and Decay.

The problem is that her WC3 abilities are pretty much in Zeratul's kit right now:

  • Shadowmeld = BlinkBlink
  • Fan of Knives = CleaveCleave
  • Shadow Strike = Singularity SpikeSingularity Spike

Yeah, that's a huge problem. I expect her kit to vary some, but those core mechanics are her lore... It will be really interesting how they balance the two.

Well, I can only hope that Mal'Ganis is not too far down that road.

And that Maiev is not going to be one of the annoying stealthies.

What I could see them doing with her is stealing some of the less evil abilities of the Cordana Felsong encounter from Vault of the Wardens in WoW like summoning a clone of herself, shadowstep, throwing her glaive and having her play sorta like a mix between Samuro and Xul

So excited! I hope they preserve the core stuff of her kit from wc3 like the blink, fan of knives and avatar of vengence (i liked that ability soooo much back then, wanna see how they'll turn it out).

Yeah, it's a really difficult situation...

But I hope they make a mix of Cordana and her W3. Could she get the night elf passive from W3, that she gets invisible by standing still?

The Vengeance ulti and a sort of Crystal prison ulti (or sec. ability) is a must have, otherwise it's not the kind of Maiev i wanna play.

Yeah, I thought that too. In the Demon Hunter trailer we see her using sealing and disarm abilities.

Of course Maiev would hunt Illidan everywhere, even in other dimensions, even in the Nexus ecksdee. Looking forward to hearing their banter, especially when they're on same team and on kill.

Ahh, the WC3 campaign memories... I remember how nerve-breaking was the mission where you had to hold the base until reinforcements with Malfurion and Tyrande arrived the first time- the satisfaction when you wiped the floor with that Naga Witch-something hero (forked lightning destroying the units you couldn't afford to lose). And when you completed the Shadow Orb quest (which you then could pass to Illidan via Malfurion).

I certainly wanna see Avatar of Vengeance and her other iconic abilities in some form or another. Seeing how they have done other classic heroes well (or mostly well) one can be hopeful.

I think the Night Elf racial ShadowmeldShadowmeld is how the ability could work, not BlinkBlink. I image a trait that makes her enter Stealth as long as she remains stationary. Movement and taking damage would break Stealth.

I think "stationary-only" stealth would make her a hero with a completly useless trait. lol Even Hanzo with his situational trait is okay. But this kind of trait would be just useless.

Having a blink won't make her the same as zeratul, it's just ONE ability. They probably will keep it since it was such an icocnic moment of warcraft3: blinking her way out of the tomb of sargeras while leaving her friends to die alone because of illidan... Fan of knives could also be reworked in something similar but different, but that's not such a strong part of her identity so even if it's one of my favorites abilities of the wc3's warden i won't miss if if it's gone. And that DoT of hers probably won't make it to hots since it's kinda filler and zeratul got that too. 

I hope they keep her BLINK and AVATAR OF VENGEANCE and hopefully she won't be a stealthy assassin cuz i don't think it really fits her (but a shadowmeld trait could be nice)

Maybe they're waiting for the right time to release Velen. He would be a fantastic addition as we have no representation of the Priest Class. If I'm not wrong he was listed as considered Heroes in BlizzCon 2011.

We also have no Gnome in the game. Sure, Chromie has the form of a Gnome, but she is a Dragonkin in disguise; Mekkatorque was showed at BlizzCon 2013, so I'm pretty sure he'll be added sooner or later. Maybe you could say we have no Male Gnome in the game, haha.

Mephisto Base Shade of Mephisto [E] Fixed an issue with the display priority for the duration bar of Shade of Mephisto. Level 20 Unspeakable Horror Fixed an issue that caused Unspeakable Horror to Silence twice. Muradin Base Thunder Clap [W] Fixed an issue that caused Thunder Clap's splat to not match the area Thunder Clap hits. Level 4 Thunder Burn Fixed an issue that caused Thunder Burn's damaging area to be smaller than Thunder Clap's area. Fixed an issue that caused Thunder Burn's warning indicator to be inconsistently sized for the area affected. Murky Base Pufferfish [W] Now has a minimum cast range of .05. Orphea Base Shadow Waltz [Q] Fixed an issue that caused Orphea to not dash when moving after hitting an enemy Hero with Shadow Waltz. Ragnaros Level 13 Cauterize Wounds Cauterize Wounds healing is now a singular combined effect each time it heals, instead of a heal effect for each Hero hit. Fixed an issue that caused Cauterize Wounds healing amount to be determined by the damage dealt to the target furthest from the primary Empower Sulfuras target. If Cauterize Wounds is reapplied while already active, any remaining healing will apply over the refreshed duration. Rexxar Base Misha, Charge! [W] Can now be self-cast. Samuro Base Critical Strike [W] Fixed an issue that caused Samuro's Critical Strike stacks to be visible to an enemy Samuro. Sonya Level 10 Wrath of the Berserker Fixed an issue with the display priority for the duration bar of Wrath of the Berserker. Remaining duration indicator is now standalone from Whirlwind's duration indicator. Stukov Base Healing Pathogen [Q] Fixed an issue that caused Healing Pathogen to persist for a brief period after activating Bio-Kill Switch. Hitting more than 3 Heroes at once no longer grants additional Essence. Lurker Strain Cooldown reduction bonus reduced from 3 seconds to 2 seconds. Level 7 Feeding Frenzy REWORK: Cooldown reduction is now a Gambit bonus, starting from 1.5 second cooldown reduction. Each death lowers this by 0.25, up to 3 times. Paralyzing Enzymes REWORK: Gambit removed. Now reduces Drag's target's healing received by 40% while Drag is active and for 2 seconds after. Level 13 Ferocious Stalker Damage bonus reduced from 60% to 50%. Level 16 Tunnelling Claws Movement speed reduced from 125% to 120%. Level 16 Up the Frequency Cooldown reduction reduced from 0.4 seconds to 0.3 seconds. Up To Eleven Duration bonus from Push Off increased from 0.3 seconds to 0.5 seconds. Duration bonus from Soundwave reduced from 0.3 seconds to 0.25 seconds. REWORK: Hitting Heroes while Amp It Up is not active increases the duration of the next Amp It Up by up to 1.5 seconds.
