Weekly Brawl: Deadman's Stand (Normal) - Mar 30

A new co-op brawl awaits this week in the Nexus! The goal is to protect your base and buy enough time for Mira Han to cleanse the Zerg infection.

  • Mira Han is attempting to repair the Core and it's up to you to protect her and wipe out the Omegaswarm.
  • Players start at level 10 and have access to all talents with a few exceptions (Bribe).
  • Dead players can be resurrected by Allies, but if the entire team dies, the mission is failed.
  • Successfully finish three missions to receive a Loot Chest.

It's very likely that we'll see the same brawl up next week, but on Heroic difficulty.

If only we had TIME! With a little breathing room, Mira Han could get the Core up and running and give us enough juice to activate the Psi Disruptor, wiping out the Omegaswarm and saving us all from certain death. That’s where you come in, Heroes… we need you to get out there and buy us time in any way you can. They’re a swarm of angry Zerg, they’re headed right this way, and you’re all we’ve got. Good luck.

Rules:

  • At the beginning of the Brawl, your team will have the following roster of Heroes to choose from:
    • Warrior: Artanis, Arthas, Blaze, Garrosh, Rexxar, Sonya, Varian, Zarya
    • Support: Brightwing, Li Li, Lt. Morales, Lucio, Tassadar, Rehgar, Uther
    • Specialist: Azmodan, Gazlowe, Sgt. Hammer, Nazeebo, Probius, Xul
    • Assassin: Falstad, Greymane, Gul'dan, Illidan, Jaina, Junkrat, Kael'thas, Kel'Thuzad, Raynor, Thrall, Valla, Zul’jin
  • Player Death:
    • When a Hero dies, they can be resurrected by Allies after a short channel time.
    • If all players die, the mission is failed.
  • Players start at Level 10 and have access to their full talents with a few exceptions (i.e. Bribe)
  • Enemy Zerg Heroes will periodically assault your base and will drop new active items exclusive to Deadman’s Stand and Escape from Braxis.
  • Survive the onslaught, protect your base, and buy enough time for Mira Han to cleanse the infection if you want to win this Brawl and save Deadman’s Port!

Rewards

  • Complete three matches of Deadman’s Stand (Normal) to earn a Loot Chest!

Awww, I thought they were going to update the Hero selection. I know Fenix is a new Hero, but they surely could have added him.

At last, my prayers have been anwsered, a new co-op. I think I had like 100 runs of Escape from Braxis :P

You mean the heroic mode.

escape from braxis had both a normal and heroic edition. A run of the normal mode could be completed really easily in 7-10 minutes, granting as much experience as a 25-30 minute game normally would. So a lot of people ran through that brawl many many times, just to level up heroes.

It was also fun, because we hadn't had a brawl like that before. 100% co-op, and pretty easy to complete, so runs were pretty laid-back with no try-hards bitching at you all game.

I actually did level up to lvl 5 all the heroes that have not been at this point yet, but I strongly believe I would play as much even if there was no exp gain. It was that much fun for me.

I still kinda miss all the "custom games" from Warcraft 3, I absolutely adored the Tower Defenses etc. I already pointed it out in the Escape from Braxis topic, but I am convinced HOTS also has room for these. The map building would have to be allowed, though.

In my humble opinion they should just make Brawls a permanent mode in the game, where you can choose which one you wanna play, at any time (much like Custom Game mode), with all previous Brawls being avaliable. Playing Brawls is a great way to change the pace of the game after you go through stressful HL/TL games.

This does not sound bad at all. Why not have a chance to choose a version you want to play. They could still include the weekly "feature" brawl with rewards etc.

I would REALLY like to see more co-op brawls, though. I wouldn't even dream of having a Tower Defense of sorts... (or is it? :P)

Actually this new Brawl looks like a Tower Defense to me, since you defend you Core and Zergs come to you.

I second that we need more PvE Brawls. "Escape From Braxis Holdout" felt a lot like a WoW Dungeon. So next step could be a 10 Man Brawl PvE against a big bad boss. WHAT ABOUT MOLTEN CORE? FIGHTING A PERMANENT AND SUPER BUFFED RAGNAROS?

It does mean you can't play certain heroes though.  Certain heroes can just do too much of everything, both wave and boss clear. For proper PvE, you need to have either everyone able to do everything or a role system. Otherwise certain players will always get the better gaming experience. I think that's why Fenix isn't up there. His AoEs are pretty strong right now. The fact that there are Hero AIs let him one-shot waves without any mana use means he can remove a lot of the gameplay from other players in a match. And if he's chosen every game like in QM, then that'll be a pretty boring brawl for the rest of the players.

Apparently, you need to finish three games to receive a Loot Chest. I don't know if that's intended, but I updated the post with the change.

In Storm League, rank is always updated by taking the change in rating and determining the equivalent number of rank points to reward. While the Heroes team is quite happy with how it turned out, the system is causing problems in Bronze 5.
In Bronze 5, players gain/lose far fewer points per game than players in other leagues and divisions. The underlying problem makes it harder to climb out of Bronze 5 and causes frustration and bad gameplay experience. The team is working on ways to improve it and provided an explanation of why this is happening.
      Blizzard (Source)
With the launch of Storm League season 1 we have seen a dramatic improvement in rank distribution. One of the primary changes in this release was in how rank is determined. In the past, rank and rating were two entirely different concepts, both of which were updated differently after each game. It was very common for a player's rank and rating to diverge throughout each season which could cause the matchmaking system to struggle to find games.
With the changes introduced this season, rank is always updated by taking the change in rating and determining the equivalent number of rank points to reward. This leaves very few ways rating and rank can diverge and results in most players being shown a number equivalent to their rating.
Overall, we are very happy with how the changes are looking; however, we are aware of the inconsistencies players are currently experiencing in Bronze 5. With the new design, players in Bronze 5 will gain/lose far fewer points per game than players in all of the other leagues and divisions. The reason for this is a bit technical but we wanted to take the opportunity to elaborate on what's going on.
Under the hood, matchmaking rating is simply a number on a bell curve. Every league and division encompasses a range of values on the same curve. For example, if the overall bell curve ranges from -10.0 to 10.0 and the range 1.0 to 1.5 maps to Gold 1, then a player with a rating of 1.25 will have the equivalent rank of Gold 1 & 500/1000 points. These numbers are intentionally made up as the real ones are always subject to change but the idea is the same.
The reason for the decrease in points awarded in Bronze 5 is that the range of ratings that maps to Bronze 5 is much larger than other divisions. The difference is that this much larger range of ratings still maps to the same number of rank points. As a result, despite being rewarded the same change in matchmaking rating, the rank points awarded may be lower. This is visualized by the graph below:
We understand that this inconsistency is a negative experience for players so we will be exploring some ways to improve it.
Thanks for participating in Storm League and providing your feedback!
