Remote AH Discontinued Due to Low Popularity

Recommended Posts

Last week, we learned about the Remote Auction House retiring on April 18, but why did they decide to discontinue the service in the first place?

Community Manager Ythisens claims that just 1% of the community uses the Remote Auction House on a regular basis and the service has a bunch of issues that just take dev time away from working on new content. They aren't planning to bring it back in the foreseeable future either.

The Web/Mobile Auction had a lot more issues with keeping it up than it was really worth for the small amount of players that actually used it. Trying to tackle and fix those issues (for transparency the majority were just exploits) just takes dev time away from working on new content. While it may change in the future, we currently at this time aren't planning to bring this back.

Because they need to show investors that people are still logging into the game.

If you really, truly believe us deprecating the mobile Auction House, which was used by the tiniest fraction of a single percent of the community, has anything to do with the health of the game, then I don't think we're ever going to be able to see eye to eye on much.

Translation:

"Despite attempts for many years, our programmers do not have the competence to keep this feature feasible. We have therefore decided to deprecate the feature altogether. And although we have previously stated that this feature was being maintained by a different group than the one working on actual development of the game, we will still use the excuse that it "just takes dev time away from working on new content."

Investors do not care how many people are logging into the game (Or even whether they are or not) as long as people pay for it.

On a completely unrelated note, 1% of the community uses this feature."

I really start to hate how blizzard is making statements, wording it like it is something good or better and/or things that are wrong or do not even matter just because it makes the whole thing sound reasonable.

It's similar to when they announce a change that aims to make more profit, hidden between a lot of explanations and then saying things like "The community was asking for it".

Remote AH was the only reason for me to use this app (I was too lazy to move all my alts to capitals only to sell some junk). Now I am going to simply remove it.

I dont see anything wrong with their explanation.

Tiny fraction of a tiny percentage use a product.  Product has issues that require attention (exploits, they even said).

Continue to devote time to a miniscule portion of the playerbase or cut it out and save the headache.

I dont see either as a 'wrong' answer.

Guess what else will be used by less than 1% of the players but takes a lot more of dev time... Wow classic...

Well if you have the numbers to prove it like they in theory should, you might have a point.

Funny to read, you made me grin :-), But I really hope you wrote it with a sense of humor and not out of seriousness. Because it would be a highly unqualified statement ;-)

Of course it was written with a sense of humor, I'd still like to think that the truth is somewhere between their answer and my translation, however.

Most of the 8.3 content will be enabled after maintenance and here's a rundown of what to expect today.
      January 21 (Season 4 Start)
Ny'alotha, the Waking City raid opens on Normal and Heroic difficulties; The Darkshore Warfront will be available on Heroic difficulty and offer item level 460 rewards; Three new World Bosses will begin to spawn; Item levels will increase by 30 for seasonal activities that include dungeons, PvP, World Quests; Heroic and Mythic dungeon difficulty will increase; Gear from 8.3 sources can now be corrupted by N'Zoth; Gear from Azshara's Eternal Palace has a chance to Warforge/Titanforge up to item level 455, but those items cannot be corrupted; You can purchase new items for Titan Residuum from Thaumaturge Vashreen; A Mythic +10 weekly chest awards 1,700 Titan Residuum, each additional level gives you 90 more Titan Residuum. With scheduled maintenance on January 21:
The new Ny’alotha raid opens for Normal and Heroic difficulties. Season 4 begins. Item levels increase by 30 for rewards from seasonal activities (dungeons, PvP, World Quests), and can now be corrupted by N’Zoth. Mythic Keystones will downgrade by 4 levels. Dungeon difficulty is increased for Heroic and Mythic difficulties. During this week, end-of-run rewards from Mythic Keystone dungeons and Rated PvP are capped at item level 445 (for Mythic +6 or PvP Rank 2). Mythic Keystone and PvP chests that are opened this week reflect Season 3 rewards earned the prior week, and cannot be Corrupted, but may Warforge/Titanforge. Item level improvements for weekly rewards now extend to Mythic +15, which awards an item level 475 piece of gear in the weekly chest to be opened on January 28 or later. The Darkshore Warfront now has a Heroic difficulty, with item level 460 gear rewards. Please note: Heroic difficulty will become available in the first Warfront that begins in each region after the Season 4 transition in that region. Any items not updated for Season 4 (for example, items from The Eternal Palace or Heroic difficulty Arathi Warfront) can continue to Warforge/Titanforge up to item level 455, but cannot be Corrupted. Titan Residuum is again available. All items that can be purchased with Titan Residuum, including new Season 4 items, have had their costs adjusted. A Mythic +10 weekly chest will award 1700 Titan Residuum, with each additional level awarding 90 more Titan Residuum. For example, a Mythic + 15 will award 2150 Titan Residuum. Specific item level 475 tokens cost 20,000 Titan Residuum. Random item level 475 tokens cost 4750 Titan Residuum.

      Season 4 (source)
Battle for Azeroth Season 4 begins, January 21 and includes an all-new Affix—Awakened— for Mythic Keystone Dungeons, Heroic Difficulty Darkshore Warfront, and more.
      Mythic Keystone Dungeons Season 4
Season 4 has a new affix—Awakened. While the Awakened affix is active, players will discover obelisks throughout the dungeon, which will pull players through the veil to the shadowy world of Ny’alotha. There, players will confront a powerful servant of N’Zoth which they must defeat or the servant will join forces with the final boss in the instance. Once the lieutenant has been taken down, the party will be returned to their regular reality in the location they’re currently standing in.
      Reward Updates
Item levels of rewards from level 120 Normal, Heroic, and Mythic dungeons have been increased by 30 and can now be corrupted by N’Zoth. Baseline rewards are now item-level 400 from Normal, 415 from Heroic, and 430 from non-Keystone Mythic dungeons. During the first week of Season 4, rewards from end-of-run chests will be capped at item-level 445 for Mythic Keystone at +6 difficulty or PvP Rank 2, and the reward cache will contain a Season 3 reward. With the start of the second week of Season 4, the weekly cache will not be affected by the cap, and will reward Season 4 items at higher item levels.
Check out the Mythic Keystone Dungeon Leaderboards to see who’s staying on top of the clock.
      PvP Season 4
Season 4 brings new player-versus-player content including the new Teeming Islands Brawl. This large-scale battle brings together two teams of 10 on an island overflowing with powerful creatures. This Brawl brings an additional challenge to the shores of PvP Island Expeditions by increasing the total amount of players from six to 20 on the biggest Islands (Havenswood and Jorundall). Participants can earn two new mounts—the Vicious White Bonesteed (Horde) and Vicious White Warsaber (Alliance) and the highest-rated players will unlock the new Corrupted Gladiator’s Proto-Drake mount.
      Reward Updates
Item level rewards in Random Battlegrounds have also been increased by 30. During the first week of Season 4, end-of-match rewards will be capped at item-level 445. This will require Challenger rank to earn. Beginning in week 2, Challenger rank rewards will be item-level 460.

Blizzard have clarified that the mail issues with the Auction House won't affect players in the long-term, aka you don't have to worry your mails will expire. They're working on fixing the newly found issues and it will probably take them a few days. You can check out all the recently added issues at the bottom.
      AH Clarification (source)
      Hello.
We’d like to clarify that nothing has been lost as a result of this issue. This is an issue with mail delivery, and we’re working to fix it. We currently expect that the fix is going to take a few days.
During that time, the mail you can’t see is not subject to 30 days expiry. It will only begin counting down from 30 days once we’ve fixed it so that you can see it and interact with it in your inbox.

      AH Issues (source)
Here are some additional issues that we have identified and are actively investigating:
When items are returned in the mail from the Auction House, it can incorrectly contain more stacks than the displayed maximum of 16. This makes it look like some items are not being delivered. You will know if you are experiencing this if a mail appears empty but can’t be deleted. To retrieve the missing items in this scenario, take out all 16 of the displayed stacks, then close and reopen the mailbox to see the rest (you may need to repeat this several times). If a character buys commodities in high quantities, they may not be able to access their mail. The favorites list is not saving properly. We have resolved some of the issues causing the “Internal Auction Error” to pop up, but it is still occurring and we are continuing to look into it.

As some players have already noticed, we got confirmation today that War Mode bonuses for Visions of N'Zoth daily quests have been disabled since Thursday. This was done due to a separate issue that will hopefully be resolved in the coming days, when the bonus will be restored.
Check out everything that's coming with the new patch right here and the patch notes here.
      War Mode Bonus (source)
We’d like to confirm that, yes, the expected War Mode bonus for Visions of N’Zoth Daily Quests has been disabled since Thursday.
This was necessary for our team to work to quickly fix a different issue. Our top priority right now is addressing these concerns, and we expect to restore all intended functionality in the coming days.
War Mode and the bonuses granted by War Mode in all other content are unaffected.
Thank you very much for your patience and understanding.

We've seen plenty of fan art imagining new class sets, especially since each class is no longer getting their own unique ones, but today we're going back to basics as redditor Anna_Richter took the first ever WoW raid sets and made them her own.

With Molten Core still in full swing in Classic, these actual items are still very much relevant (not to mention as transmogs in retail), but Blackwing Lair is coming in under a month so Anna might want to go for Tier 2 next! With so many sets to choose for and it taking a fair amount of time to make these she's actually already mentioned what her next projects related to this will be:
In any case we're definitely looking forward to seeing more from Anna, whichever her choice of set may be - whether it's tier 6, or the wrong choice.
