Question

Recommended Posts

Asking as someone who just started playing the game, is there a reason why the characters are the specific ones that they are? Is there a reason why these specific "lore" characters were chosen to be the ones you can play in the game? Thanks!

If i'm understanding your question correctly, you might be confused. We don't play any specific lore characters. The characters that we play have been, and will probably always will be, referred to as "brave adventurer" in canon.

This seems like it might have been targeted at Heroes of the Storm, rather than WoW? Just guessing based on the content.

Edit: Never mind. Your other post was moved from Hearthstone, so it looks like you might be talking about that. It's mainly because the heroes are there to represent what is "iconic" about the class.

Let's take Warrior, for example, where you have the option of playing a dwarf or orc. Both cultures embrace the warrior far more than, say, a blood elf culture would. Within those two races of Dwarf and Orc, they have taken two of the most notable and important lore characters possible that, even without playing the game religiously, you probably know the name of, at least in passing.

They could have used Broxigar the Red for Warrior, another orc, but despite him being an incredibly powerful and well-known warrior, there are many that don't know him due to him not being actively in-game and his feats almost all occurring outside of the game.

For Mage, they could have used Aegwynn, but let's be honest, everyone knows her son, Medivh, more often due to him actually appearing in-game and current lore, or Jaina, a front-facing figure in the Alliance and present in almost all cinematic videos.

They just tried to find heroes that showed off the usual traits of the class while still being important enough that new players would easily be able to identify them. It's easier to find out who Garrosh is as the Warchief of the Horde, commander of Horde forces in Northrend and son of one of the most important figures in Orcish history than trying to find Broxigar's feats in the War of the Ancients trilogy books.
