Diablo Rework Spotlight: May 10

Recommended Posts

M85QJ7f.jpg

Diablo will be reworked soon and Blizzard released a new spotlight with an overview of what's changing for the Lord of Terror.

The refinements add depth and complexity to Diablo's gameplay, all maximizing the bonuses that skilled players can reap from mastering his abilities.

Rework Highlights

  • Fire StompFire Stomp (W) - is now a cone-shaped skill shot, giving players more control over when and how it's used. On the return to him, his flames will deal triple the damage. Diablo heals for a percentage of the damage dealt to enemy Heroes.
  • Shadow ChargeShadow Charge (Q) - Diablo can now see pathing indicators around him, allowing players to nail the perfect Shadow Charge. The spell also increases Diablo's Movement Speed instead of adding Armor.
  • Diablo has two new talents at Level 4. They provide different ways to increase the number of Souls he gathers:
    • Sacrificial Soul (Q) - Shadow Charge grants Souls and Armor.
      • Stunning a Hero with Shadow Charge grants 5 Souls and 15 Armor for 4 seconds. While at 100 Souls, increase this Armor to 30.
    • Souls to the Flame (W) - Fire Stomp grants Souls and heals more.
      • Fire Stomp grants 1 Soul every 3 times it damages an enemy Hero, and heals for an additional 1.25% of its damage dealt per Soul.
  • Eternal Flames (new talent?) allow Shadow ChargeShadow Charge and OverpowerOverpower's stun to reset Fire StompFire Stomp.

The Lord of Terror is about to become even more terrifying! We’re implementing a series of significant talent and gameplay updates for Diablo with our next Heroes of the Storm patch. Watch this spotlight video to catch the highlights and a get a few tips.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

and now to read about it besides just the title :P

EDIT:

HELL YEAH!!!! I think these changes will make him a bit OP, so I do hope they won't "balance" other stuff after.

And killing Nova before Lucio? That was kinda noobish...

I notice that Life Leech is being moved to level 4, and has added functionality where it grants souls. Not only does this mean there will be something else available at level 1, but Life Leech may not just be a meme talent anymore? Eh, probably not

Seems like extreme mana heavy with all those resets and cooldown lowers he can burn his own mana in few seconds

each ability reset fire stomp, DominationDomination, Diabolical MomentumDiabolical Momentum they coulda as well give him no CD at all and remove his mana and give him permanent passive invulnerability to balance him better

I like how they made more talents interact with the soul generation, because dying in the endgame with Diablo is really bad.

I really, REALLY hope they don't remove his core talents, i.e. Devil's DueDevil's DueDiabolical MomentumDiabolical MomentumDevastating ChargeDevastating Charge and DominationDomination. They said his default build will remain intact, but I'm skeptical about that.

Um, is From the ShadowsFrom the Shadows gone? It's not there when they demo the new level 4's. That would make me a little sad. Really love the Fire StompFire Stomp revamp though, since before it was pretty mindless. One more potential buff idea: remove Lightning BreathLightning Breath from the game.

They could have moved it to a different tier, but it's such an autopick talent that they may very well have just made it baseline.

Not sure how I feel about him being about to see where people are pathing. Seems to give him an unfair advantage no one else will have. Guess we'll see how that works out.

Delightfully devilish, Heroes.

"Why there is smoke coming out of Tristam, Deckard?"

From what I see in the video, he doesn't see the direction in which the enemy player is facing/going, it shows in which direction and how far his Shadow ChargeShadow Charge will push an enemy. By doing this you can now tell whether or not you will actually shove someone into a wall. It's something he's sorely needed for those of us that have a harder time judging that particular aspect of the ability.

Hopefully this rework will come out with the Luchadore skins, which will hopefully be tomorrow. I can't wait for those Garrosh and Lunara skins. ^^ They've been needing something nice for a while.

I'd love if this was to happen, similarly to how they launched Tyrael rework along with the MechaStorm skins, thus skipping the PTR.

Ah, nice! A rewo-

Diablo? What? Not Chen, or Raynor, but Diablo of all heroes? The fun-to-play and consistently useful without being excessively dominating Diablo?

What on earth?

I think it's also that he will see the wall line hit boxes now like how Junkrat & Hanzo can to help with wall slams too.

Diablo is so oppressive in drafting (at least at higher level play) and is statistically on par with Fenix while also having only a single talent build with little deviation outside of level 7 or people wanting to go for a meme in the shape of the Lightning Breath ultimate.

Diablo definately needed a rework and just as badly as Raynor does, but for exactly the opposite reasons.

That being said, it has been confirmed that reworks for Raynor (and Lunara) is in the works. Therefore, the Raynor joke is no longer funny.

Wow. He's already meta pretty much, this will make him even more (even 100% pick/pan imho).

Unless Blizzard screws up (which would not surprise me) Diablo will receive a nerf with his rework, probably on his damage numbers.

In Storm League, rank is always updated by taking the change in rating and determining the equivalent number of rank points to reward. While the Heroes team is quite happy with how it turned out, the system is causing problems in Bronze 5.
In Bronze 5, players gain/lose far fewer points per game than players in other leagues and divisions. The underlying problem makes it harder to climb out of Bronze 5 and causes frustration and bad gameplay experience. The team is working on ways to improve it and provided an explanation of why this is happening.
      Blizzard (Source)
With the launch of Storm League season 1 we have seen a dramatic improvement in rank distribution. One of the primary changes in this release was in how rank is determined. In the past, rank and rating were two entirely different concepts, both of which were updated differently after each game. It was very common for a player's rank and rating to diverge throughout each season which could cause the matchmaking system to struggle to find games.
With the changes introduced this season, rank is always updated by taking the change in rating and determining the equivalent number of rank points to reward. This leaves very few ways rating and rank can diverge and results in most players being shown a number equivalent to their rating.
Overall, we are very happy with how the changes are looking; however, we are aware of the inconsistencies players are currently experiencing in Bronze 5. With the new design, players in Bronze 5 will gain/lose far fewer points per game than players in all of the other leagues and divisions. The reason for this is a bit technical but we wanted to take the opportunity to elaborate on what's going on.
Under the hood, matchmaking rating is simply a number on a bell curve. Every league and division encompasses a range of values on the same curve. For example, if the overall bell curve ranges from -10.0 to 10.0 and the range 1.0 to 1.5 maps to Gold 1, then a player with a rating of 1.25 will have the equivalent rank of Gold 1 & 500/1000 points. These numbers are intentionally made up as the real ones are always subject to change but the idea is the same.
The reason for the decrease in points awarded in Bronze 5 is that the range of ratings that maps to Bronze 5 is much larger than other divisions. The difference is that this much larger range of ratings still maps to the same number of rank points. As a result, despite being rewarded the same change in matchmaking rating, the rank points awarded may be lower. This is visualized by the graph below:
We understand that this inconsistency is a negative experience for players so we will be exploring some ways to improve it.
Thanks for participating in Storm League and providing your feedback!
