Toxicity Down Significantly Due to LFG and Endorsements

Recommended Posts

More feedback on the LFG and Endorsement systems and it seems they've had a massive positive effect on toxicity of players and are making the game much more enjoyable! So far we only got stats for KR and the Americas with EU coming later, but the numbers are very impressive nonetheless:

Blizzard LogoJeff Kaplan (source)

Our Global Insights group just finished parsing some stats as it relates to LFG and Endorsements.

Post release of Endorsements and LFG:

The % of Competitive Matches that Contain Abusive Chat is down:

26.4% in the Americas
16.4% in KR

The % of Daily Players being Abusive is down:

28.8% in the Americas
21.6% in KR

We’re really pleased with the community’s efforts to make OW a better place! Thank you all!

And we’ll keep working on iterating on these features to make them better as well as exploring other systems to improve the gameplay environment.

...

We don’t have all the stats reported yet… sorry… I was just sharing what progress we had…

...

Yes, some quality of life changes are coming very soon. For example, in an upcoming patch the LFG system will persist your filters across logins.

So the new social systems greatly improved quality of life in the game, but even if they hadn't, it's great to see Blizzard trying new things to improve community interaction, especially since it working in one game can easily be transferred to other games as well. Imagine if your acceptance into a M+ or raid group was based off of recommendations and endorsements instead of raw ilevel and achievements alone...

I think the number of suicides by people getting a ban or other punishments because they were toxic, will increase significantly. Good for us ground steady people, which will enjoy the game even more. (sorry if this is bad english ....)

Well I certainly hope that's bad English because "suicides increasing significantly" is definitely not good :P. I am curious as to what you meant by suicides (Try google translate for that one word, it may all make sense if you replace that with whatever word you truly meant.)

People just use chat less and even less in voice chat than before. Playing at lower ranks (around gold-plat) still isn't a very good experience, people might be less "chatty", but they tilt and stand on spawn all the same. Winning in many cases depends which team happens to have worse thrower. Oh, and no stats from Europe, which is the region I'm talking about.

At this point i really meant suicide, but more in a ironic way. I discourage everyone from doing so. It was more like "They cant keep their terrorism in the game, so they cry like a spoiled kid which doesnt get its cookie". If that kind of humor is to harsh, then you are free to erase my first comment @mods 🙂 Dont want to be rude or anything.

The Problem with european servers is, that you will always meet players that just speak their own language, and often dont even try to speak english (even in the cases where they understand, but still ignore to cooperate). In my case its mostly french and russian players that are very ignorant, but yeah, most players avoid the chat entirely. I would love to use voice chat more, but i envy US servers for speaking one language united... 😞

I am a bit frightened that the upcoming voice chat for dungeon groups in WoW will be the same experience.

Don't they have problems with players from Latin America? Unless they've got their own servers. Europe is funny sometimes, had several situations when I joined voice chat only to hear French, Spanish or Russian. As for WoW, I doubt that much will change, there has been a voice chat since TBC (and I even used it for my raids several times back then), but most people ignored it and no one bothered to use it later.

The main reason not to use it (I tried it a few times when it launched, it was buggy and sometimes couldn't talk at all) is simply because it does rely on WoW (obviously...). So if your WoW crashes or freezes, your raid has no clue. If I raid now, and my wow freezes (it's extremely rare, but does eventually happen after a couple of days (especially after new patches/addons) then at least I can say so in discord (or at the time, Teamspeak)

Or even much more simple things "I'm gonna log on my alt for this run" and then having to go through the hassle again of logging back in and not participating in the conversations while switching. It's just so much more convenient to have a separate chat client.

Yeah, that too. In my case people stopped using it, myself included, because overall sound quality was rather poor, and most people wanted Ventrilo or TS back then.

That would be terrible. There is what only matters is your skill, based on your already achieved progress than you are only a 'coo'l guy. Nobody want a 'cool' but noob player in M+ or in a raid.

Obviously recommendations and endoresements would go based off skill. No one would endorse a bad player just because they were "cool".
Just because someone has achievements and a high item level in no way means they have any amount of skill.

But that is what happens on OW, at least on the cases that I saw. Mercy Mains getting level 4 just because they play Mercy, or streamers or 'famous' people getting votes just because they're cool...

I think the new system is fun.

After absolutely destroying the other team, match chat still works and I just say things like "Hey guys, great job and great effort in the loss!  You guys did really well! Fantastic Job!"

I usually get a few angry whispers after that, lol.

Not sure that's the majority of endorsements, but even if it is, I don't see it being applicable in WoW.

      PATCH HIGHLIGHTS
      New Hero: Sigma
Sigma is an eccentric astrophysicist and volatile tank who gained the power to control gravity in an orbital experiment gone wrong. Manipulated by Talon and deployed as a living weapon, Sigma’s presence on the battlefield cannot be ignored. Sigma launches two Hyperspheres (gravitic charges), which bounce off walls and implode after a short duration, damaging enemies within a sizable radius. Using Experimental Barrier, he propels a floating barrier to a location of his choosing and he can dismiss the barrier at any time. With Kinetic Grasp Sigma freezes incoming projectiles in midair, converting them into shields. Accretion allows Sigma to gather a mass of debris and flings it at an enemy to knock them down. Unleashing his full powers with Gravitic Flux, Sigma takes flight, lifts enemies in a targeted area, and launches them into the sky before slamming them back down. Learn more about Sigma on his hero page 2.

We’ve also added Events to make it easier to detect players joining and leaving matches.
