Transmog, Missing Mage Tower Skin and More 8.0.1 Issues

Recommended Posts

It seems 8.0.1 is one of the more unstable patches launched, as in addition to the significant server problems that plagued the US and OC launches there are also many more issues that still linger. After the known issues posted yesterday we have yet more getting addressed by Blizzard, but this time with some solutions as well.

First off we have several suggestions on how to fix lost Mage Tower artifact appearances, as well as clarifications on the overall artifact transmogging system:

Blizzard LogoMage Tower Appearances (source)

Before a hotfix that we made to the game on Tuesday, July 17 at 3:30 p.m. PDT, some players in the Americas, Australia, and New Zealand may have found that the Mage Tower Artifact appearance they thought they earned had gone missing. We have some suggestions for you, if you believe this to be the case.

Check your quest logs.
If you have either the scenario quest completed, or you’re on the final quest to return to Dalaran and talk to the Council of Six, you should be able to go turn it in and obtain the appearance.

Go to The Violet Citadel.
It’s possible that one of the Council of Six has the final mage tower quest available for you. Go to Dalaran, accept the quest, stand in the circle and have your weapon upgraded, and then complete the quest. This should award the appearance.

We apologize for the confusion. Thank you very much!

Since the Pre-Patch went live yesterday, we’ve seen some questions and concerns from players on several transmogrification issues. We’d like to elaborate on some details about how the system works:

Transmogging an Artifact to look like a non-Artifact from your weapon appearances collection should work as it did before.

You can now have a transmogrify vendor put an earned Artifact appearance on appropriate non-Artifact weapons belonging to characters who are of the same class and specialization as the character who earned the appearance.

However, if you wish to apply an Artifact appearance to an Artifact, you must visit the Artifact Forge in your Class Hall, and your character is restricted to appearances that were earned on that character.

Artifact appearances that come in pairs (main-hand + off-hand) cannot be separated when you’re using two items. If you apply the appearance of one of these to your main-hand item, your off-hand item will use the appearance of the other, and vice versa.

Artifact appearances that come in pairs *can* be applied to two-hand weapons. A Shadow Priest can now make a staff look like Xal’atath, Blade of the Black Empire.

Some Artifact appearances are so awesome that they can bypass restrictions on some weapon types. However, even though some restrictions have been lifted, other weapon restrictions remain. It is not intended that a melee weapon can be made to look like an Artifact bow or gun. Likewise, you can't make a bow/gun/wand look like an Artifact melee weapon.

When doing transmogrification, you can select a slot to alter in the character pane on the left of the window, and then *right-click* on an appearance in the right pane of the window and use “transmogrify as”. This is especially useful when you visit the transmogrifier as a Feral or Guardian Druid.

Thank you very much. We’ll continue to keep an eye on all of your questions and feedback!

We then also have another list of common issues, some with explanations and solutions:

Blizzard LogoList of common issues (source)

GAMEPLAY: DIDN'T RECEIVE EXPECTED LOOT IN MYTHIC CACHE

Known issue: Due to changes to the Mythic+ system in Battle for Azeroth, players will not receive their normal Mythic Cache loot and keystone this week. As this was unintended, we will be providing 1000 Wakening Essence as well as a Level 2 Keystone in the Mythic Cache for those who qualified for loot in the previous week. Our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience!

ELOTHIR DOESN'T SHOW UP FOR VARIOUS QUESTS

Known issue: The Ancient Elothir does not spawn as required for a variety of quests, preventing players from completing the zone. We are looking to fix this issue as soon as possible.

FULLSCREEN MODE UNAVAILABLE

Not a bug: For compatibility reasons, the option to play in fullscreen has been removed from the game. Players may choose between playing in either windowed or fullscreen (windowed) mode.

UNABLE TO CLAIM GIFTED BATTLE FOR AZEROTH KEY

Under investigation: We have received reports that some players are unable to claim a gifted expansion. An investigation has been launched.

MISSING EXTRA BAG SLOTS

Under investigation: Some players that have both the Authenticator and SMS Protect enabled have reported missing the four extra bag slots. We are currently attempting to verify this issue.

Are you serious? "Compatibility reasons"? I'm going to put my foot up your ass for compatibility reasons.

Compatibility with the future of DirectX.  Microsoft is phasing out fullscreen in DirectX.

Thankfully it's still present in DX11 and DX12 and it is working just fine with games that support those.

Why don't they just drop support for anything below 4K resolution? Because DX18 is going to phase out anything below that.

Doesn't make sense to me to drop support for things that are working perfectly fine right now, with current technology. I seriously doubt Blizzard will drop DX12 support in "the near future" anyway, especially considering there's still a very large playerbase with only DX11 support.

I don't get the point. To me, it does make sense to use newer technology, otherwise WoW would still look like vanilla. There is a point where you have to move on, and this point seems to be now. What exactly is your problem to play in fullscreen (windowed) instead of normal fullscreen? To me, fullscreen (windowed) is so much more appreciated, its so much easier if you like to google and switch between game and desktop. So, are you just complaining because its gone and you were used to it or do you have any reasonable problems while playing in fullscreen (windowed)?

Windowed fullscreen for some games gives problems with FPS, multi-monitor support or streaming. Especially the former seems to be the case when it comes to WoW; people have reported fps drops of 20-30 FPS since they were forced to windowed fullscreen.

I read both, ppl having FPS drops and other having FPS increases: https://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/2412344-Forced-fullscreen-(window)-is-ruining-my-experience

It seems to depend on your hardware. But look, this it how it goes. If a computer is getting old, whe shouldn't blame blizzard for going with time. If FPS-Drop is due to other screen-mode or just due to graphic-model-upgrades *shrug*?

People are expecting same performance in BFA as in Legion without any hardware upgrades. This is not how it works. Just have a look at system requirements for Legion and BFA.

Why can't blizzard implement so that we can, for example, use destro warlock artifact in the affliction specialization? I think its lame that the artifact you want to transmogrify, is restricted to your specialization...

Because otherwise hybrid classes get shafted (Can't really play Retri Paladin with the Protection shield).

Yes, but then make it exclusively for some classes. Rouges, mages, locks, priests, hunters and so on would get a big deal of weapon customization, if they implemented it. Some paladins were also shocked that they couldn't get to play with The Silver Hand, (holy paladin artifact). But if they implemented this sytem, they would fix that dilemma, and add even more customization!

The full screen being no longer available is more off an annoyance but easily worked around. I just dont like how the mouse can jump to the next monitor since its much smaller going left off the main one and onto the smaller one and back jumps the mouse down 3 or 4 inches making it just a little worse to do things quickly. You can always just change your computer to run one monitor only when doing something important to get around this. Just wish that wasnt the only way to do it

Find out how to obtain the new Spark of Awakening in Season 4.
Spark of Awakening is used to set the item level of crafted gear to Item Level 502 in Season 4, but how can you obtain one on live servers?
Abandon the "Aiding the Accord" quest if it's in your Quest Log.
Pick up the weekly quest from Therazal in central Valdrakken. As you can see, there are now three possible quests for you to receive that will change every week.

The weekly quest options (and objectives) will always be the following:
      Dragon Isles Quest
Participate in a Community Feast Participate in a Hunt Lay siege to Dragonbane Keep Zaralek Cavern Quest
Protect the Researchers Under Fire Loot a Secured Shipment (Suffusion Camp) Complete a Time Rift Amirdrassil Quest
Earn 50 Bloom during the Superbloom Complete a Superbloom Plant 3 Dreamseeds Quest Rewards
After completing the weekly quest you will receive 1 Splintered Spark of Awakening) via Weekly Awakened Activity and a Cache of Awakened Storms (containing gold or gear).
You will need two Splintered Spark of Awakening and 250 Flightstones to create one Spark of Awakening.

We'd like to introduce you to a game-changing nameplate addon for Season 4 that's essential for excelling in Mythic+ dungeons.
Tracking every mob and their abilities in Mythic+ can be overwhelming, but this addon excels by replacing standard mob nameplates and cast bars to enhance your gameplay.
Once installed, mobs with critical interrupts will display a thick orange cast bar, while less crucial ones will show a thinner yellow bar.

Mobs with less crucial interrupts will have a thinner yellow cast bar.

Additionally, any mobs that inflict heavy frontal cone damage are marked with an arrow and feature orange cast bars. A voice alert will also prompt you to move by announcing "front."

The addon further assists by indicating non-interruptible spells that require crowd control with a purple cast bar and a vocal "cc" alert.

For tanks, if you're not holding aggro, the nameplates of the mobs will turn red, quickly showing you which ones to target.

There's also a handy visual cue on the cast bar, surrounded by a green border, signaling when you can interrupt an ability and your interrupt skill is off cooldown.

      Ready to try it out?
You can download Quazii Plater here.
For setup assistance, watch Quazii's comprehensive video guide.
Quazii has also created a Mythic+ cheatsheet that details all critical abilities for Season 4 dungeons, available in a text format.

Players are currently unable to catalyze gear from the Black Temple Timewalking cache into class set piece.
It's unclear whether this limitation is a bug or an intended feature, but the gear obtained from completing this week's Black Temple Timewalking quest cannot be converted into a set piece using the Revival Catalyst, as reported on Reddit.
I personally checked this at Antuka and can confirm that gear from the weekly quest cache cannot be catalyzed. I received the Grips of Damnation from the Essence boss yesterday, and found that the item was ineligible for conversion at the Catalyst.

Here's how you can upgrade your legendary weapons in Dragonflight Season 4 next week!
This one is for Fyr'alath and Nasz'uro owners. You must first farm 2 Antique Bronze Bullions. However, you can only acquire 1 Antique Bronze Bullion per week from Awakened Raid bosses. The bullion will drop in Raid Finder difficulty too.
Next week, the cap will be raised to 2 and a catch-up method will be implemented, so players who didn't have the chance to get their first bullion can get it from the weekly quest in Valdrakken.
Anyway, the soonest you can upgrade your legendary to the base item level of 502 is during the week of April 30th (so next week).
Once you have 2 Antique Bronze Bullions, head to the Parting Glass in Valdrakken.

Evokers need to buy Scale of Awakening from Iszinormi for 2 Antique Bronze Bullions. Death Knights, Paladins, and Warriors need to buy Scale of Awakening from Iszinormi for  2 Antique Bronze Bullions. Once purchased, use the consumable to upgrade your legendary to item level 502, the base item level for Season 4.
After that, you can further upgrade your legendary using Flightstones and crests. Check out our gear upgrading guide for more info!

Cache of Timewarped Treasures obtained from Black Temple Timewalking quest this week has a chance to contain Ashes of Al'ar!
Don't forget to complete this week's Timewalking raid! If you're having trouble getting into a group, create your own one, invite 2 tanks 4-5 healers and around 14 DPS and you are all set! Visit Shattrath, and talk to the Timewalking NPC to queue up for the raid.
The raid is extremely easy to compete and what's more, you get item level 493 loot along your way.
Upon defeating Illidan Stormrage and completing the quest, you will receive Cache of Timewarped Treasures that has an increased chance of containing Ashes of Al'ar or another piece of gear.
Demon Hunters shouldn't forget to get their warglaives transmog arsenal from Illidan and the reputation buff will help you add a couple of mounts to your collection!
