Heroes of the Storm: High Inquisitor Whitemane Hero Reveal

"Whitemane will take up Anduin's spot as HotS priest" - Not necessarily. See, priest has 3 specs (as most wow classes) and it is pretty hard to funnel all 3 of them into one character (see constant Varian changes for reference). Moreover, while Light and Shadow are two opposites and a HotS representation of priest would most likely play around this theme, we still have Discipline, which is this awkward part not fitting the otherwise perfect picture. Enter Whitemane, perfectly fitting into Discipline fantasy with Atonement, purge the wicked and penance. Not only is she perfect in terms of flavor, but also Atonement from wow (heal allies by dealing damage) could fit nicely to HotS.

Agree that Whitemane probably will be discipline priest hero. It fits her lore and nature perfectly. This leave holy and shadow priest spots open. You have same with paladins in HotS. We got Uther which is holy and Yrel which is more retri. Anduin is clearly more holy than disc, he doesn't smite enemy with light and don't get idea that discipline is, balance bettwen light and shadow.

She looks like a vanilla manga vampire character.

Can't say support is all that interesting for me right now, so this may be a 'blessing' in disguise.

See what I did there? :p

Playing vanilla, wotlk and Even legion but not knowing Whitemane is the opposite of what you're assuming to be xD Please don't say that then, no excuses :)

Don't blame the character just because you need to hide that you didn't know her... Just don't do it! hehe

I agree that they could have added Velen or Anduin, with the latter making more sense considering Battle for Azeroth, but at least they chose a character iconic enough as Whitemane.

They just did a Draenei and as mentioned, which Anduin do you use?

I think this is a fine representation of the priest class and am hoping the talent tree/build is as varied as the WoW one where there’s a shadow build and likely a disc build instead of holy.  If you really wanted to make it a great unique character having atonement DPS build would be 100% unique in HOTS.

The warlock build they did for Gul’dan was very well done, IMHO, and having mained a lock for 5+ years he was so easy to pick up and learn.  Nice blending of affliction and destruction.

Since priest was my next favorite spec I can’t wait to get her.  Might be the first class I purchase for 15k.

She was a leveling dungeon boss that you were better off skipping even in vanilla and added nothing to the overarching story. Why would I bother learning about her. Important villains were either raid bosses or end game dungeon bosses.

I wouldn't say half naked. She only has exposed upper thighs.

Fair enough but her sexy outfit was largely the reason for cosplays and art

Whitemane who? Is she related to Greymane by any chance?

I jest, I jest. Even though I didn't know her either, I trust HotS dev team in creating a good kit. They managed to do so with generic units (Fenix, Blaze) and character that didn't even partake in combat in their original game (Deckard).

But I'm honestly surprised both that not only we got two WoW heroes back to back but at least one of them seems to have no connection whatsoever with BfA. I expected the next WoW hero to come with the expansion launch, and be someone of importance such as Saurfang or Anduin himself. Well, that might still happens anyway.

I played vanilla through lich king then picked it up again at legion and never once went in that dungeon because 30-40 was STV time. As for seeing naked women why would I want a cartoon when there's basically infinite free naked real women online just by asking google for it. She is absolutely a nobody

nobody?mate,if you dont know scarlet crusade you better stop playing wow now! they even returned in MOP.maybe you didnt play wow yet!

I am shocked they went with such a nobody as the priest representative when they have a hearthstone hero not in the game

im sure i know her more than him because Anduin was a kid for few patches and he became somebody at MOP(and its not my fault that you're not a real wow fan to know her).. its not fair to talk about this..garrosh is warrior, varian is warrior, and i ask you, are they same?

I consider myself a pretty big wow lore nerd and had to look up who she was when people started saying it was her. I leveled through vanilla and never bothered with that dungeon. Dungeons in vanilla were a huge pain to get a group for that they were best avoided if there was a zone with quests. Her dungeon was in the 30-40 range which gets easily covered by STV. I'll be honest and say I'm shocked there actually anyone that would call her iconic. She has no impact on the story of the games and most people were better off just skipping her dungeon entirely as leaving stranglethorn vale to trek up to tirisfall glades is a waste of time in your 30s especially since the gear isn't worth much of anything while leveling.

Going to have to disagree with you here.  I don't think you're a big wow lore nerd.  I did as many quests as possible zone because I loved reading the back stories of the characters in the. Even if i had out leveled the zone, I wanted to know the backstory.  Just because there was an alternative place to level doesn't mean the lore in another location is irrelevant.  That's like saying EPL lore didn't matter because you could level in Winterspring.

WoW lore is so much more than end game bosses and raids.  I get that you may think that because you sound like someone who did a lot of raiding (I did too),  So many of the vanilla dungeons had great lore associated with them, even if they were low level.

The Scarlet Crusade has always had an influence in WoW lore which is why we always see them come back in some form or fashion, and since Whitemane is the one most players will think of when they are brought up, then that makes her iconic.

I remember getting the tabard for the first time.  I absolutely loved it and wore it all the time, lol

Well, guess you're not that big of a lore nerd lol

Whitemane IS memorable. She is one of the most cosplayed wow characters ever and one of the characters most featured in fan art. The Scarlet Crusade which she is a member of IS a big deal in WoW lore, especially the part before Cataclysm. Her dungeon is even still relevant because it's featured during MoP Timewalk... And she is back in Legion as one of the new Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. She even got her own Hearthstone card in Knights of the Frozen Throne.

Most iconic PRIEST? Maybe not. But definetly an iconic WoW character nonetheless. ?

I think Anduin would be perfect as a multiclass just like his father, but as a mix of assassin and support instead. They could make a nice kit around light for healz and shadow for damage, since he has stated many times that light and shadow must coexist, his hearthstone portrait features him using light on one hand and shadow on the other AND his death knight from KotFT is Voidform Anduin.

Not really. The boss fight in the Dungeon has two phases. In the first one you fight just one Warrior-guy - before MoP that was Renault Mograine, who has been replaced by Commander Durand since then (IIRC). As soon as you drop him, Whitemane rushes in, incapacitates the whole party and resurrects her guy, shouting her iconic line "Arise, my Champion!". After that you fight her and the resurrected Guy together. That's why people - including me - want to have a resurrect ability of some kind in her kit. It would be a shame, to waste one of the most (in-)famous lines in WoW ?

Hardly, Anduin only is implied to know how to use Shadow spells, but never actually seen doing it. If you want a multiclass Priest hero, Archbishop Benedictus is a better bet.

To top off what Evincare said, she also casts Ressurection from time to time, and if it is not interrupted all dead trash mobs in a vicinity around her will come back to life. Yikes.

I think I am more annoyed that not only are we defending for Whitemane...but its like now the 37th? Warcraft character added to the game. The- "There are more Warcraft characters than Starcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch" excuse is kind of a weak point. Though, it is correct because the Warcraft universe turned into a MMORPG which has been around for 20+ years now compared to the other universes BUT I wouldn't say there aren't any characters from the other universes that cannot be added now...

There is an array of characters left unclaimed in Starcraft see here. I mean we haven't even had a Xel'naga addition from Starcraft...(I get it they are probably massive but we do have a Firelord, whose size has changed significantly depending on space). There are Overwatch characters that can still be added....and Blizzard could totally add Kyle "Blackthorne" Vlaros to be an addition to their Blizzard Classic set with the Lost Vikings (which I have been totally wishing for since they brought back the Lost Vikings).

Let us also not forget, Blizzard has a lot of characters in the Diablo universe, with 3 titles and probably a 4th on the way....there are many named "demons" or class additions that could be added..I mean we have Diablo / Azmodan, 2 of the 5 prime arch demons and then we have Tyrael, Auriel and Fallen Angel Maltheal but what about Izual? Baal? Imperious? Mephisto? those are pretty iconic bosses/characters from the games...they could even make a Diablo Druid...which would be pretty sweet as like hybrid caster/melee dps ...I don't know, I generally don't care but it would be nice to see more characters from the other universes...

Well, since we already have Ariel's ressurect, maybe Whitemane could get an Ultralisk-like ult called "Arise", that summons Mograine (or the other whatshisname dude) to guard and follow her, with either a set duration or like the new Raynor banshee.

She is a nobody. The scarlet crusade don't have any real noteworthy accomplishments. They exist to get booted out of wherever they happen to be while accomplishing very little whenever the WoW dev team remember they exist. Being the boss of a dungeon everyone would be way better off skipping even in vanilla to me is not an accomplishment.

While there is room for there to be multiple priests it's kinda stupid that the king of stormwind sits on the sideline while a vanilla leveling dungeon boss that anyone leveling back then would be better off skipping is a stupid decision. I'm sure at some point we'll get Anduin but for the first priest from WoW to be her it's a bizarre choice at best.

Wow I envy your free time because I understood pretty early on that trying to find lore and story in an MMO's leveling content is a waste of time unless the story of someone running a failing pest control business is a particularly compelling story and I'm missing out on something though I kinda doubt that. The bulk of what you did in MMOs including early WoW stuff was go to a place and kill X pallet swapped monsters either just to kill them or to get X of an item they sometimes drop and they constantly respawn so you don't actually accomplish anything. The raids were where the big story events happened at least until mists of pandaria where they started working the story into the leveling process. Raids reset as a necessity but canonically the character at the end died. At best any villain that isn't involved in a raid is pretty small in the grand scheme of things.

EPL is a odd choice to go with but it's actually super relevant to the bigger overarching stories since it is both a place with considerable history dating back to WC3 and was the location of Naxxramas for quite a while. The scarlet crusade are around but they don't do much and while some people had their memorable moments there's so many bigger, more important characters, especially from warcraft, not in the game. I played a warlock in vanilla and had a great time doing the quest chain to get my dreadsteed, hands down one of the most memorable moments in the game and I did it after BC came out instead of buying a regular epic mount, but I am not going to pretend Lord Hel'nurath should be the first dreadlord in the nexus over Mal'ganis or Tichondrius despite him having a small role in the legion story.

Nearly all major SC characters are already in game. Those who aren't are rather minor (and bland to be honest, like Vorazun or Karax) or weren't a frontline combatants, like Edmund Duke or Arcturus Mengsk. I doubt they want to add another weird character like Abathur (example: Arcturus sending soldiers instead of locusts), having both of them in quick match could render game completely unplayable and one-sided.

Besides, characters like Edmund Duke and Gerard Dugalle had no appearance in SC2 and wouldn't even have same voice as originals, so people would complain anyway that they don't "feel" the same as in SC1. Jack Ritschel and Paul Ainsley are dead, that's also why Zeratul and Artanis have different actors.

Most people don't even know who Blackthorne was or don't even care. Hate it or like it, but he isn't iconic even to those who started playing Blizzard games in the 90s. He is just too old, comes from very early era of the company and I have no idea who could even voice him in modern day.

Sounds like a weak excuse. Just because you didn't care and skipped some bosses, doesn't mean there wasn't any story or that it was obscure. Also, it seems as you didn't really care about story as much as you claim. Scarlet Monastery is still one of the most iconic instances for many players, and Scarlet Crusade as a whole had presence in vanilla, WotLK and, as was said here before, returned during MoP with resurrected Whitemane and her minions, which was the current content (even did challenge mode there before it was removed from the game). On top of that, she was resurrected as undead in Legion and is still alive (sort of...).
