Patch 8.0.1 Hotfixes: August 22nd

A really big batch arrived today, keeping the trend of hotfixes every single work day since BfA launched and featuring a number of class changes for Demon Hunters, Hunters, Mages, Paladins an Warlocks, in addition to the previously detailed Feral Druid buffs.

The other big fix is PvP scaling being re-balanced in favor of max level players, as detailed in this blue post:

Blizzard LogoPvP Scaling (source)

We're preparing a hotfix to go live soon which will widen the power gap a bit between players between 110 to 120. This means that, for example, a 120 will be stronger against a 115 after the hotfix than they are on live today.

Regarding lower level players being stronger at a lower level than they would be at max level, we haven't found that to be the case. (Though to be fair, that was regretfully the case in some situations in beta and on live because of bugs.)

In the case of Venruki, we loaded both characters internally and tested the scenario (exact spell sequences, etc.) with his Druid opponent at max level with gear the same iLevel as his Mage. Venruki would still of lost in that scenario if the Druid was at the same level and iLevel as him, so it is not a scaling issue between players of different levels but perhaps something else (1v1 class balance, item choices, etc.).

Azerite Power spec restrictions were also lowered, as well as Heart of Azeroth item level upgrades for reputation getting restored for player that didn't have them trigger, and we got more pet battle, island expedition, quest and World quest fixes.

Regarding lower level players being stronger at a lower level than they would be at max level, we haven't found that to be the case

Yet they said the following in the Q&A:

Quote

The power setback at 120 is noticeable and in new expansions, they're looking for a system that would merge the open world relevance with a feeling that you don't fly backwards as you level.

Scaling in the outdoor PvP caused some issues where lower level players have been dominating level 120 players. The problem was hotfixed last night.

Quite the contradiction.

Finally, I can level to 120 with a peace of mind.

Honestly though, ditching PvP scaling altogether and implementing a stronger stats and iLVL squish, without dropping the ball with absurd 20+ times the power over the next 10 levels (looking at you, Legion), would be a splendid solution.

The race for the top spots is done, even though there are plenty more guilds progressing on N'Zoth. The biggest news since we last checked in was that both the Corruption affixes and N'Zoth himself were nerfed, and according to the top guilds, when you add both nerfs together N'Zoth got a bit easier. He received a 5% overall nerf and the Thought Harvesters did as well, while the Corruption effect (mainly Echoing Void) nerfs only accounted for around 2-3% of Limit and Method's total damage, and that number significantly drops off for lower ranked guilds, as they won't have had as good gear (with the possible exception of some Asian guilds).
What that all ended up meaning is that only our Bronze medalist, Pieces, actually downed the Old God before the nerf, with 4 through 10 all getting the slightly easier version. It's a big accomplishment in any case and was hard fought, so let's take a look at the final standings:

There we have it, one US guild at the very top, 5 EU guilds and Asia staking their claim once more with 40% of the top 10. We did have an upset on the charts however, as Alpha, who have been the top Asian guild for quite a while now and also lead the way throughout Ny'alotha, were beaten in the end by JTH aka JiTianHong! And the other big news is that the amazingly named FatSharkYes took the 4th spot back for the EU, while raiding quite a bit less than their competition. We've also had some more guilds get to 12/12 after the top 10 finished up, with Chinese newcomer Hei Jia Ji just missed out on the top ranking slots, followed by aptly named Korean guild KR, Practice from the EU and finally US second, Big Dumb Guild just getting it done today.
Let's also take a quick look at the viewership for the race, as it's been affected by the change in leaders, and it's also gotten a pretty big bump since the Eternal Palace. We'll check out the week of the final boss kill specifically, as that's the peak in viewership, and N'Zoth actually saw a big increase from Azshara, but with a different layout. Let's start with the kill-week viewership for Eternal Palace, courtesy of The Esports Observer:

      And now Ny'alotha:

As you can see Method's event stream kept pretty much the same presence, but the big addition was Complexity Limit GM Max's stream which came through to increase the number of watched hours by almost 50%! Complexity's own event stream wasn't that watched, as the point of focus in the race was Max's stream as Limit was leading the way from pretty much the very beginning of the race, and his stream offered the entire unedited guild communications.
Finally in this conclusion of race-related events we have a big shakeup for the two top guilds, as Naowh, Limit's main tank for this raid has announced that he's going to be joining Method! In case you weren't aware, Naowh is an EU player and was originally a part of Method's EU MDI team, but joined Limit for Ny'alotha progress.
The actually bigger news here came with Method GM Sco's post regarding this matter, stating that either he or Justwait will likely be passing their tank spot to Naowh in Shadowlands and will "support the guild from outside the raid during the next RWF". Whether this is referring to the role Limit GM Max took this time around or something different remains to be seen. Here's Sco and Naowh's full quotes:

And so another race has come to a close and it was a very eventful one, seeing a seismic shift in the raiding world as the US is back on top after an 8 year absence. Limit have been working on this for a long time and it seems the partnership with Complexity was that final push they needed to get there. Battle for Azeroth still ended up being Method dominated, however, with the guild taking 3 out of the 5 raids, with Pieces taking the short Crucible of Storms and now Limit making things interesting with the Ny'alotha win. This marks Shadowlands as a particularly interesting race, with both guilds now having esports organizations behind them and Method being behind for once, so it'll be a thrill to find out if they can recover from this one.
You can check out all our Ny'alotha progress summaries here, if you want a refresher on the race and all that happened.

This week's bonus event is Burning Crusade Timewalking! Complete 5 Timewalking dungeons for the weekly quest to receive a piece of gear from Normal difficulty Ny'alotha, the Waking City.
Timewalking dungeons drop item level 425 loot. You can get item level 445 loot from Black Temple Timewalking. You can obtain Arsenal: The Warglaives of Azzinoth on your Demon Hunter if you earned the Warglaives of Azzinoth prior. ILLIDAN AWAITS
Head to Outland to face Illidan and his cohorts once more in The Black Temple!
The Black Temple raid is available throughout the Burning Crusade Timewalking event. The difficulty is set to Normal and, like any Normal level raid, will not be available through Raid Finder. To take on this challenge, you’ll need to get your guild or a group of friends together, or head to Group Finder > Premade Groups. The raid scales for your group size (between 10 — 30 players) and your level and gear will be scaled back to match the raid’s challenges.
Want to relive the time you first defeated Teron Gorefiend? Face (face, face) the Reliquary of Souls once more? Witness the showdown between Maiev and Illidan before the final fight? Now’s your chance. Inside you can earn transmog sets, the pets you need for Raiding With Leashes III, a Music Roll: The Burning Legion, and gear drops. And for Demon Hunters, there’s the enticing possibility of obtaining the legendary Warglaives of Azzinoth. Are you, this time, prepared?
DUNGEONS IN THE BURNING CRUSADE TIMEWALKING
All week, open Group Finder (default hotkey: i) and then select Dungeon Finder and Timewalking in the Type dropdown. When you hit ‘Find Group’, you’ll be matched up with other players and sent to one of the following Heroic dungeons:
The Arcatraz The Black Morass Magister’s Terrace Mana-Tombs Shattered Halls The Slave Pens Your character and items will be scaled down to a power level fitting for the challenge at hand, but bosses will yield loot appropriate for your natural level. Timewalking dungeons also have a chance to drop items that usually drop when you run them on Heroic, and you’ll earn reputation with a faction that is interested in the dungeon. For example, when you Timewalk through The Slave Pens, you’ll earn reputation with the Cenarion Expedition, which could open access to purchasing the Cenarion War Hippogryph mount.
Look for the following all week long:
Chronicler Shoopa in Zuldazar or Chronicler Toopa in Boralus has a quest for you has a quest for you. Or, if you forget to pick it up there, you can start it from within the Adventure Journal. Quest requirement: Complete 5 Timewalking dungeons. Rewards: Artifact Power and one loot box containing a piece of gear from Normal difficulty Ny'alotha, the Waking City. EVERY WEEK

Each Bonus Event grants a passive bonus to a particular game activity and offers a once-per-event quest with a noteworthy reward for accomplishing a related goal. The in-game calendar can serve as your one-stop reference for the event schedule. The Adventure Guide also offers a direct link to active Bonus Events, allowing you to easily accept any associated quests.

We have another short batch, featuring the N'Zoth and Jaina mounts finally dropping in pairs with resets after some issues last week, as well as Rajani and Uldum Accord paragon caches being turn-inable once more, and a quest fix and Classic getting a tweak that improves performance of a mod.
      February 18 (source)
      Items and Rewards
Fixed an issue that prevented Lady Jaina Proudmoore and N’Zoth the Corruptor from dropping mounts when defeated on Mythic difficulty. Developers’ note: Last week we made a change to increase the mount rewards from defeating these bosses from 1 to 2. However, the hotfix caused an issue that prevented any mounts from dropping, so we’ve reverted it back to the previous iteration as a temporary fix (1 mount rewarded). These bosses will drop 2 mounts with restarts in each region. Quests
Eligible players can again turn in “Supplies from the Rajani ” or “Supplies from the Uldum Accord ” for Paragon Cache rewards. WoW Classic
Fixed a performance issue resulting from communications initiated by the Real Mob Health add-on. Please uninstall the current version of this add-on.

To prevent players from quickly killing world bosses, Blizzard recently added spawn protection for Nalak and Rukhmar, meaning the bosses will be immune to damage for a few seconds after they are attacked so that more players can tag them.
Similar to Sha of Anger (Reins of the Heavenly Onyx Cloud Serpent) and Galleon (Son of Galleon's Saddle), spawn protection has been enabled for Nalak and Rukhmar.
Nalak can be found in Isle of Thunder (Pandaria) and has a chance to drop Reins of the Thundering Cobalt Cloud Serpent.
"This is a descendant of the irascible Nalak. Lightning erupts from its scales and arcs over the saddle. Dare you sit?"

Rukhmar can be found in Spires of Arak (Draenor) and has a small chance to drop Solar Spirehawk.
"Looking into the eyes of this mystical beast is like peering into the heart of the sun. Goggles are recommended when you're riding."

Lady Jaina Proudmoore was not dropping any Glacial Tidestorms on Mythic difficulty after they buffed the drop rate to two mounts per run. As a result, she has been reverted to only drop 1 mount until the underlying issue gets fixed.
Blizzard is currently investigating a bug that affects Mythic Jaina in the Battle of Dazar'alor raid and she now only drops one Glacial Tidestorm until further notice.
Customer Support won't be granting additional mounts while the drop rate is reverted, according to the official support page.
      Blizzard (Source)
We should have received two mounts after today's hotfix, however after we kill Jaina we receive no mount at all.
We identified an issue were Lady Jaina Proudmoore was not dropping any Glacial Tidestorm mounts on Mythic difficulty. She has been reverted to now drop only 1 mount again while the underlying issue is investigated.

Customer Support will not be granting additional mounts while the drop rate is reverted.
In the latest round of hotfixes, Blizzard buffed the drop rate of Glacial Tidestorm and Ny'alotha Allseer to two per run, because it took up to 20 weeks for a full Mythic group to get the mounts for each member. You can find more details here.
