Battle for Azeroth Live Developer Q&A Roundup: August 23rd

Recommended Posts

qGOuF8S.png

Game Director Ion Hazzikostas answered your BfA questions in the latest Live Developer Q&A today and we've got the highlights!

Q&A Highlights

  • Feral Druids had weak AoE damage in dungeons so they decided to address it. They're not done with tuning yet.
  • Any plans on curbing back the PvE world mob scaling? They feel like damage sponges even above heroic dungeon ilvl? End-game outdoor world scaling has not changed in 15 months. Outdoor content remains far more relevant and rewards get better, so it makes sense to make mobs more powerful. In Legion, it prevented players from tapping mobs, because they died faster.
  • The power setback at 120 is noticeable and in new expansions, they're looking for a system that would merge the open world relevance with a feeling that you don't fly backwards as you level.
  • Scaling in the outdoor PvP caused some issues where lower level players have been dominating level 120 players. The problem was hotfixed last night.
  • Why did you remove auto-accept and searching for groups by addons? It created a huge gap between players who used addons and who didn't. With Group Finder addons, the world quest experience is 90% travel time and 10% doing actual content. Rather than making world quest rewards suck, they decided to go with the worthwhile change.
  • Any plans to fix the Auction House on highly-population realms? It's a hot topic right now, the AH infrastructure is old and the team is working to improve the search experience. They're also planning to introduce deposits that will make listing single stacks more costly to encourage players to list more than a single stack of trade goods.
  • Moderation tools for Communities are coming in the next patch. You will be able to change public links etc. They don't want to dictate how players use Communities.
  • Island Expeditions feel unrewarding after players complete the weekly quest and that's fine, the quest pretty much tells you you're done with Islands for the week. Individual Island runs rewarded less Azerite that intended and that was hotfixed recently. Island Expeditions still remain the best source of Artifact Power.
  • Azerite Armor will be tradeable next week after maintenance. Blizzard made them non-tradeable due to their complexity and social pressure. They explained in past Q&As that they don't want players to abuse the system by look for the best possible Class/trait combination to loot a certain piece of Azerite Armor.
  • How does the Artifact Power catchup work in BfA? Next week, the amount of Artifact Power needed for your Heart of AzerothHeart of Azeroth to reach ranks is going to be reduced. No more billions of confusing Artifact Power like we've seen in Legion.
  • They are careful with War Mode rewards. They don't want players to feel obligated to have it on.
  • The first Conquest reward will be a ilvl 340 weapon.
  • Any plans to reduce the amount of trash in THE MOTHERLODE!!? Not right now.
  • New models are coming for Goblins & Worgen, they'll share more info when they are available.
  • Emissary rewards are randomly selected from a pool of options.

This sounds wonderful and dangerous at the same time. The way Blizzard recently managed WoW economy is outstanding. Token prices may have dropped a lot lately, yet still - they have far better monetary policy than some actual real world countries (I'm looking at you Venezuela). But most people use the AH only for putting up their excess materials. Got some ore or herbs from a lockbox? You post it on AH. If listing low amounts will cost marginally more they will make the AH more favourable for goblins, than average players. It's not so friendly from a casual's point of view to be honest, even if may increase price stability. Could revive the Trade Chat for mats. To be honest I still think making AH region-wide would still be the best option.

they're technically right though, the eventually heat death of the universe is also coming, it's basically their way of saying later rather than never.

Instead we're left with an obnoxious addon that whispers you and spams group invites in your face... Yeah big improvement.

Then they shouldn't have put the main player power progression on the rewards... Because I'm feeling really obligated to do my WQs with it on just so I can be decently ready for raid.

Because I *really* need those *five* mythic helms I got last week while my priest friend is running around in a WQ blue...

Since the "recent" discovery of symmetry breaking, scientists are not so sure of that anymore. But that's way off topic ?

Honestly a partial solution I was hoping for was free transfers from the super high-pop realms causing trouble. Since I am not a hardcore raider anymore (haven't been since Cata) I can REALLY live on without Area 52...

This explain everything.. I feel myself much weaker in 340 than I was during leveling and this is a bit ridiculous.

Blizzard has posted development notes for Patch 9.2.7. The latest update brings region-wide commodities to the Auction House while armor and weapons will remain realm-specific. The patch also adds a new trade channel for services.
      (Source)
World of Warcraft Version 9.2.7 PTR
      AUCTION HOUSE UPDATE: REGION-WIDE COMMODITIES
Auction Houses across all realms on a given region will now share commodity listings (gems, herbs, flasks, consumables, etc.). Items that aren’t commodities –- like armor and weapons –- will continue to be realm-specific. Developers’ note: The Auction House you know and use today should look and feel exactly the same; it’ll just have way more buyers and sellers available to you for commodities. We’d love for players to hop on the PTR, copy over their characters, and help us test the Auction House across the entire PTR region. We might schedule a specific time in a few weeks for everyone to hop on at the same time to help stress it, details tbd. USER INTERFACE AND ACCESSIBILITY
A new chat channel for searching or advertisement of services like raiding, dungeons, or PvP activities has been added: Trade (Services). Developers’ note: The trade channel that’s been in the game for 18 years will continue to exist, but we wanted to add a new channel to direct messages about the request and advertisement of services like raiding, dungeons, or PvP activities. If you’re looking to buy or sell these kind of services, this is the channel for you! If you’re not interested in those, you can leave the channel and avoid the noise, or move it into its own chat tab. We believe that with this new distinction, you’ll be able to keep Trade chat for the traditional buying and selling of items and professions, and not other chatter.

Some players received Shadowlands Epic Edition from Blizzard for free today via mail according to reports.
We're not sure what makes people eligible for the gift, so don't forget to check your email if you've been gifted the Shadowlands expansion. According to reports, players who are currently unsubscribed from the game received it too. You can claim the gift from within the Battle.net app if you've been selected.

Ahead of the Curve and Cutting Edge achievements for the current will be removed when Season 3 ends on August 1. More nerfs to Sepulcher end bosses are also planned in the coming weeks.
      (Source)
Can you provide an update on the end of Season 3 Raiding? Will AOTC be going away, and if so when will this take place.
Yes, we intend to close the current raiding tier for achievements such as Ahead of the Curve with the weekly reset the week of August 2.
We have additional tuning in the works, with a focus on the end encounters of Sepulcher. We know that currently far fewer guilds are on track to get Cutting Edge in particular than in past tiers and we want to address that in the coming weeks, before Season 3 ends.
