Warbringers: Azshara Animated Short

Recommended Posts

Warbringers come to a close with the final animated short about Azshara revealed at Gamescom.

If you missed the previous animated shorts, check out Jaina and Sylvanas!

Azshara at BlizzCon 2017

Blizzard announced that Azshara will be a villain in Battle for Azeroth and later confirmed that she's the Gul'dan of Battle for Azeroth, so we'll see her as a final boss of an upcoming raid (Nazjatar?).

Azshara's Appearance in Battle for Azeroth

Lord Stormsong, patriarch of House Stormsong, serves Azshara and the Old Gods. He's a boss found in Shrine of the Storm dungeon and transforms into a k'thir before the battle. There's a short dialog between him and Queen Azshara. (Source)

Quote

Lord Stormsong: The Kul Tiran fleet is nearly yours, my queen.

Queen Azshara: It would seem you have guests, Lord Stormsong.

Lord Stormsong: Intruders?! I shall cast your bodies to the blackened depths, to be crushed for eternity!

Rexxar: make peace with your queen, for your life ends here. Your head will soon be mounted on my wall!

Warbringers: Azshara

The final animated short shows Azshara's transformation into a Naga and her encounter with N'zoth.

Beautiful. Seriously, Blizz should just start their own animation studio. Though I enjoyed the WoW movie, it just didn't feel right considering how they changed the lore in some places. So I think, Blizz making an animated series or movies like Old Soldier

Wow... Less childish and repulsively-sweet like in War of the Ancients trilogy, and at the same time still a level of arrogance rivalling that of Archimonde. Well done, Blizzard.

I'm always saying that whenever they post a new video. It has a lot of potential. They can rival Disney in that segment if they really want to.

Honestly, they should actually make a movie with this kind of art style. The Warcraft movie was alright but if it was done in this style it could have received a lot more positive feedback! Sadly I know animations such as these take far too long, and this seven minute video is more than likely months of endless progress.

...so she stared both death and a GOD in the face in his own world, and convinced him to make HER basically his second in command...

Bravo, Queen...  Bravo.

I mean she sacrificed probably millions of lives to do so, ones that probably wouldnt have made that sacrifice willingly, but hey -  gotta crack a few eggs amirite??

Pretty bold! But her wit knew that she would probably be the only one who would actually break N'zoth free from his prison.

Did she?  I got the impression they would've died.  The life they got wasn't the life they had, of course - not unlike Sylvanas - saving people by transforming them into something else.

Maybe what they got was worse than death.  Or maybe not.

Well done, Blizz.

Next question:

Will the Nightborne have any idea what happened with their former queen and what they are now (the Naga?)

Obviously they will have learned about it by now, being playable and all, but I hope they are HEAVILY included in the story for Azshara.

It'd be nice to see Prince Farondis heavily in the fight also.  Please Blizzard, dont forget the man!

Well done Blizzard. For a character we actually never "seen" before, you managed to show us what she is like in a 7 min animation.

She did appear in Cataclysm, although she had standard Naga sea witch model. Also, if that counts, she was in one of Caverns of Time dungeons in the past.

Prince Farondis knows that she is a naga since he saw her true form before freeing the player in Azsuna storyline

That he did, but he wasnt stuck under the Nightborne Shield for 10,000 years either, as he and all his people were cursed to remain outside.

Uncommon Patron

I loved the animation, The attention to detail is unbelievable. I also like the art style and how they showd n'zoth (?). I get some good lovecraftian vibes here. 🙂

Maybe we will see an actual old good without a good portion of their restraints? We never actually fought an old god without (or mostly without) their restraints. Yogg-Saron and C'thun were just peaking their noses out and started to corrupt half the world doing that.
Im hyped for the future expansions. Maybe we get our beloved Black Empire back?

Now you face my true form, mortals! Weep your salty tears into the saltier oceans as you and your melee friends have to contend with me and my 20 minute boss fight while underwater

Don't forget we got fishing skills. We fish up that carp N'Zoth and leave him to suffocate. Best bossfight in history of Warcraft.

I can think of plenty of places where we can fight her outside of the ocean. First that pops to my mind is the zone Azshara, north of Orgrimmar. If I were a mad sea witch launching an all-out invasion on Azeroth, that would be the first object I'd seek to retake.

How Gul'Dan will she be though? I mean if they compare her to Legion Gul'Dan she would be the final boss of 8.2, enabling some yolo entity/faction to be summoned/allowed to surface into the world when being killed (or turned?).

As for facing a full-force old god head on I wouldn't get my hopes up... especially because of the ways we fought Yogg, C'Thun and Y'Shaarj to some extent. Most infamous villain end one would be the Deathwing bossfight(s) where we never actually fought the dragon but his left and right toes and whatnot... TBH I don't know if we should be able to kill an old god unless he's been severely weakened. I mean we are the best - no questions there. But should we lorewise be powerful enough to actually kill an old god without help of someone? That someone being the Titans/Keeprs/Azeroth herself I'd assume...

From Sargeras "Queen" to N'zoths "Queen" she is very "horny" for that god power  🤣

A trait, that would make her very much alike Gul'Dan acutally.

Update: the daily quest Coalescing Visions reward increase was actually a typo and it's now been fixed - it is a 30% increase and not a 50% one.

The massive February 24th hotfixes are here, featuring both the class and Horrific Vision tuning, as well as Explosive Orb M+ affix changes, Ny'alotha tuning, and even more Horrific Visions changes. In WoW Classic we have Razorgore only save raids to the instance if he was killed after all the eggs were destroyed.
      February 24 (source)
      February 24, 2020
      Classes
Druid Restoration [With regional restarts] Rejuvenation now costs 10% base mana (was 10.5%). [With regional restarts] Efflorescence now costs 17% base mana (was 21.6%). [With regional restarts] Tranquility direct healing increased 11%. Developers’ note: These changes should improve Restoration Druid’s raid healing output, without much impact to their already strong capabilities in dungeons and Arena. Hunter Marksmanship [With regional restarts] Damage of all abilities increased by 5%. Mage Frost [With regional restarts] Damage of all abilities increased by 5%. Monk Windwalker [With regional restarts] Damage of all abilities increased by 5%. Damage unchanged in PvP. Rogue Outlaw Resolved an issue that could prevent Blade Flurry from damaging some types of creatures in Uldum and Vale of Eternal Blossoms. Shaman Enhancement Damage of all abilities increased by 3%. Warlock Demonology [With regional restarts] Damage of all abilities increased by 5%. Dungeons and Raids
Mythic Keystone Dungeons Explosive Affix Explosive Orbs again immediately put players into combat. Explosive Orbs can again be tab-targeted. Developers’ note: When testing the Awakened affix, we found that Explosive Orbs could sometimes prevent players from entering or exiting Ny'alotha Spires and Rifts if their party was in combat inside the instance. To solve this issue, we changed them to not place players in combat immediately. However, this had the unintended side effect of breaking player expectations around tab-targeting Explosive Orbs, so we're reverting their threat-generation behavior and trying an alternate solution. Ny’alotha, the Waking City Azeroth's Radiance now properly restores Sanity to players who are under the effects of an Immunity spell on all difficulties. Vexiona Cultists now have their health adjusted based on raid size, up to a maximum 10% reduction for 10-player raids on Normal and Heroic difficulties. Ra-den the Despoiled Resolved an issue that allowed Re-origination Anchors to be attackable with area of effect spells. Horrific Visions
Research into Synchronized Mind Stabilizer has improved, now always reviving the player with at least half their Sanity. Horrific Vision of Stormwind Magister Umbric now casts Frozen Storm twice during the encounter (was 3 times). Items and Rewards
Torn Pages of “Fear and Flesh” The number of Torn Page of "Fear and Flesh" quest items required for the rank 13-15 cloak quests has been reduced. Rank 13 now requires 4 Torn Pages (down from 6). Rank 14 now requires 6 Torn Pages (down from 12). Rank 15 now requires 8 Torn Pages (down from 18). Developers’ note: This change should make all the quests completable by most players in the week and not require players to feel the need to save as many keys week to week. Along with our other quality-of-life changes, this should help newer characters catch up with their peers. [With regional restarts] Up to 4 Torn Page of "Fear and Flesh" quest items can now drop in Horrific Visions from objectives on the rank 7-11 legendary cloak upgrade quests (max of 2). Developers’ note: Players will need to clear more than two side areas in one run to get more than two pages. The rank 13-15 quests will still drop a max of 2 pages, only from Lost Area objectives. Coalescing Visions Coalescing Visions now drop in higher numbers from Assaults and Daily Quests. [With regional restarts] Visions of N’Zoth daily quests now reward 50% 30% more Coalescing Visions. [With regional restarts] The N’Zoth Assault now rewards 2500 Coalescing Visions (in addition to a Vessel of Horrific Visions). [With regional restarts] Lesser Threats will now reward 6500 Coalescing Visions (was 5500). Heart of Azeroth Reaping Flames (Essence) will no longer have its cooldown reduced to 5 seconds and deal additional damage when killing Twisted Appendages. Player versus Player
Tank-specialization characters take an additional 50% damage from enemy players (was 40%). Death Knight Blood Death Strike now heals for 12.5% of damage taken when engaged in combat with enemy players (was 25%). Death Strike now heals for a minimum of 3.5% of maximum health when engaged in combat with enemy players (was 7%). Frost, Unholy [With regional restarts] Death Strike now heals for 30% of damage taken when engaged in combat with enemy players (was 40%). [With regional restarts] Death Strikee now heals for a minimum of 5% of maximum health when engaged in combat with enemy players, down from 10%. Mage Arcane [With regional restarts] Prismatic Barrier now absorbs 40% less damage when engaged in combat with enemy players. Fire [With regional restarts] Blazing Barrier absorbs 40% less damage when engaged in combat with enemy players. Frost [With regional restarts] Ice Barrier absorbs 40% less damage when engaged in combat with enemy players. Warlock Affliction, Destruction [With regional restarts] Demon Armor now increases Stamina by 5%, (was 10%). [With regional restarts] Demon Armor now increases Armor by 90% (was 150%). WoW Classic
Razorgore the Untamed now only saves players to the raid instance if defeated after the eggs have been destroyed.

We have another remastered WoW cinematic on our hands, this time hand-made and not AI upscaled to boot! The end cinematic of the Icecrown Citadel raid is particularly relevant today, as it not only sets up Bolvar as the new Lich King, but also takes place in the Sylvannas vs. Bolvar arena that sets off Shadowlands.
And here's the description from the creator, Pivotal:
And here's the intro cinematic for the patch, remastered a long time ago by Hurricane:

The biggest ongoing discussion in a large part of the WoW raiding player base has been whether raids are harder now than they were in the past, with Vanilla and Classic especially coming under fire for seemingly "easy" bosses. Now it's obvious today's boss fights are infinitely more complex, but there's a huge mitigating factor to consider, and that's addons. If you needed more proof for just how important mods are to raiding, the recent World First race win by Complexity Limit came just as they got their own dedicated addon coder, in their partnership with Deadly Boss Mods. Regardless of where you come out on the "raids were harder in era X" discussion, it's very clear addons have completely changed the way raids work, and we now have a look inside how exactly that evolved in a PC Gamer interview with lead game designer Morgan Day.

We start in Warlords of Draenor and Hellfire Citadel, where Archimonde sat waiting. The boss had been the hardest in a long time, surviving for 16 days and was only surpassed by his fellow Burning Legion bigwig Kil'jaeden, 2 years later to the day. So why was Archimonde so important? Well, a new addon was developed by the top raiders at the time that could actually draw lines on the minimap, making the Wrought Chaos mechanic easier to deal with. As Morgan Day explains:
This particular addon was deemed too powerful and the API was changed so it didn't work anymore, and this wasn't the first time Blizzard had to step in and curb a mod's functionality, as Blackwing Lair (and Chromaggus in paticular) had shown that the Decursive addon was too powerful and needed to be toned down.
The biggest new piece of info from the interview would have to be that while Blizzard don't actually design bosses with addons in mind from the ground up, they very much do pay attention to them when it comes to implementing the boss designs. They don't always catch everything, however. Day mentions that the Prophet Skitra's main mechanic in Ny'alotha was actually completely ignored by mods - the boss would split into many mirror images and players were supposed to communicate and find out which one was real, except Blizzard didn't quite foresee a method mods could mark the real one, and so that part of the fight was completely trivialized.
And finally, Day talks about how some addons, while deemed too powerful and were shut down, lead to actual improvements in the game itself, like bosses using similar tech to telegraph their attacks better (like the Augmented Virtual Reality one from WotLK which allowed you to draw whatever you wanted on the game screen).

The interview covers a lot more ground and goes into detail on some of the above examples and is a great read if you're a raider or interested in the World First race, so definitely go check it out!
