About Kanai's Cube Gem for sets

What is the maximum gem level forge for set item stats?

if you mean the Caldesann's Despair recipe, where you use a legendary gem and 3x flawless royal gems, to add stats to an item...

1; it's for "Ancient" items, not set. (of course, if you have an Ancient set item, that works too.) 

2; there's no max level. it works for as high as you can level your legendary gems.
