More Changes for Emissary Azerite Armor Rewards

Recommended Posts

We have more fine tuning coming for the emissary Azerite armor reward scaling, with a hotfix planned today. Two changes are on their way, the big one being more relaxed requirements for the 370 item level rewards as they were previously too high, and the other a fix for some issues where players were receiving lower item level items than they should.

For more info on all the recent emissary Azerite rewards changes check out this article.

Two quick updates:

Based on reports, we were able to find a strange behavior where a player's loot history could be inaccurate depending on the loot specialization they had selected. We believe this is why some players with average item levels over a certain Azerite threshold were seeing rewards lower than expected (e.g. players with 371+ average item level getting 355 Azerite caches). We have a hotfix currently in testing to correct this issue.

Secondly, we agree that the requirements for the 370 caches were a little too high initially. With things like this, we tend to err on the side of being too conservative so that we can relax restrictions later if need be, and that's what we're doing here. We're going to lower the average item level threshold required to see 370 Azerite Armor in Emissary caches slightly in another upcoming hotfix.

Both hotfixes are being worked on now, with the goal of getting them out later today.

Translated: Sorry, we had no idea how our algorithm is working. We now had a look at it but we're still unsure what it does. With our new testing system called "try and error" we gonna adjust the scaling.

Seriously, how it is possible to deploy such a chaos? From day to day i'm getting more confused what happened with quality Blizzard stood for...

So, how many AAA games with literally millions of lines of code, some of which is more than ten years old and long forgotten, have you worked on?

Tweak an already existing system, and suddenly a bug pops up that only occurs under very specific circumstances. Even if you spent all the time in the world testing, there are things which will never come up unless you put them out live.

The reason why games in general used to be more polished in the past is because they just were so much simpler. The bigger your software and the more interwoven systems you have, the higher the likelyhood of things breaking.

Oh, i'm aware of that fact. It's how it gets to this chaos:

  1. They hotfixed (!) this and announce, it scales based on overall average item level.
  2. People react: it is not.
  3. The clarify "Azerite Armor caches scale based on the highest item level soulbound gear you've picked up for each slot (even if you don't have the item any more). It doesn't have to be equipped or kept in your bags."
  4. People react: it is not.
  5. We got an information they are working on and it seems to be due to be based on loot specialization (which seems was not intended to be)

Look, i do understand it is not easy for them to work with 10 (and more) years old code and decisions. But its still Blizzard, a million-earing company and not a funny garage-enterprise. Its just not the first "bug" or mistake they deliver within this expansion. At some point it gets annoying and as i said confusing what the hell is going on there regarding quality.

People always just want want want want more. Just enjoy the game!

You might be right, it's not worlds end :-). It's just adding up and it #feelsbadman to see how this game is ruining itself.

Id like a direction to be pointed where any expansion was bug free.

ETA: ill be the first to admit that this one seems, much heavier.  to say the least.

Sure, other expansions did have bugs. Well, it weren't bugs, it were Features ;-). No, i'm far far away to expect no bugs, it's simply barely possible to code something with this complexity withouth any.

But yes, i'm with you. In this Expansion it seems to have so many of them, they Keep fixing and fixing and fixing. But they not just have to fix bugs, no, they also have to fix design desicions as well. This is the reason why the brought up this emissary azerit-gear hotfix. And even if Blizzard says we are at the beginning of the expansion and this has ever been the case...i don't feel this way. We had tuning in last expansions and we had bugs...but not in this frequency as we have it nowadays.

Is my view distorted?

Not to my belief, no.  The level and quantity of bugs and fixes is astronomical, at least in my memory of comparison, as well.

It seems like more of a wording discrepancy we are fighting than a 'meat and potatoes' one.

The new War Within Allied Races was added to the Alpha today and we already have a full look at not only all their customization options, but their dances as well, courtesy of MrGM! You can check out the Earthen's racial abilities here if you missed them earlier.
Let's start with the more dynamic feature, with both male and female dances:
And then there's big amount of customization options, as well as a size comparison with regular dwarves:

So, are we liking the new Allied Race overall? More than actual dwarves?

Here's a really cool possibility for the War Within, as a very subtle and mildly mysterious comment from Executive Producer and Vice President for WoW, Holly Longdale, may be hinting at our Warband characters getting a lot more involved in our travels!
First spotted by UlthansWrath, Longdale came up to Taliesin & Evitel at the recent London War Within Alpha press event and had a short chat about the Warband screen, when she casually said "wouldn't it be cool if those were the characters you took as your followers in your Follower Dungeons?" After the obvious confirmation from Taliesin and Evitel that, yes, yes it would be cool, she just said "hm" and that was the end of the conversation.
Obviously this isn't any sort of official confirmation, but considering this is a really awesome idea, it seems likely Blizzard are at the very least discussing it, if not already working on it.

The Warband system is already great, and this would add a lot to it for players that choose to go solo into dungeons, as it would give them even more motivation to get some great characters in their Warband - even if it was just a cosmetic option.
So, what do you think, will we be seeing this feature when the War Within launches?
