WoW Classic Demo Details

Recommended Posts

Virtual Ticket holders will be able to play WoW Classic Demo tomorrow and Blizzard's implementing an initial playtime time limit and a cooldown to help as many people as possible play the demo. For example, if you play for 60 minutes, you'll be disconnected and then have to wait 30 minutes to play again.

The session limit is in line with global strings that we datamined earlier.

  • WOW_ERROR_331
    • You recently reached the time limit for your World of Warcraft Classic session! Please try again in approximately %d |4hour:hours;, %d |4minute:minutes;.
  • WOW_ERROR_333
    • Thanks for playing World of Warcraft Classic! You've reached the time limit for your current session, but you can play again in approximately %d |4hour:hours;, %d |4minute:minutes;.

The plan is to lift session limits as soon as possible and only reinstate them if unexpectedly high demand returns.

When the World of Warcraft: Classic demo becomes available to play at home on Friday, November 2, we will ensure maximum availability to players at home by initially establishing session limits.

When the demo goes live, we’ll use a playtime time limit and a cooldown (that starts when you first log in) to help as many people as possible play the Classic demo as much as possible. We’ll start with a playtime limit of a cumulative 60 minutes and a cooldown of 90 minutes. Here are some examples of how that might work:

  • If you play for 30 minutes and then log off for 60 minutes, when you come back you’ll have a fresh 60 minutes.
  • If you play for 60 minutes, you’ll be disconnected and then have to wait 30 minutes before you can play again.
  • If you play for 20 minutes, log off for 20 minutes, then play 40 more minutes, you’ll be logged off and wait 10 more minutes.

Our goal is to lift session limits as quickly as we feasibly can after the demo goes live. We will then only reinstate session limits if unexpectedly high demand returns.

We will update this post with further information on this, as necessary.

Thank you!

People are going to be so disappointed with this demo...

I mean, it's only a demo. It's not supposed to be the real thing yet, and it's likely that the servers are not developed well enough yet to handle a large influx of players. People are always going to be whining and complaining, it's in our nature as human beings. It still has major potential though, so I'll give it that.

easy way to find out if your account has the virtual ticket unlocked - do you have the cloaks and the banners unlocked in WoW ?
if not: something went wrong, contact a gm if you cant find out what
if yes: still contact a gm since ... again ... something went wrong but out of your ability to fix it yourself since this would be more like a bug
anyways, make sure to contact them asap -- not much time left

Superb idea!

Give some, wait some, everybody gets a decent sized shot.  Good job!

Logged in, 20 EU test servers. Only 2 were "high" and 18 were low. Created a priest. Couldn't find the face I remembered I had, but that can be me.

Loaded in. Accepted quest, well I waited (and read) till the quest text was all there and the accept button could be pressed. Cool forgot about that, I actually like it.

Luckily I remembered where to find some bandits, as there is no quest helper.
Stamina buff, check.
Inner Fire, check.
Shield, check.
Smite > Mind Blast > SW: Pain > Smite….

Holy crab, he is running away, wait there's no wand on my hotbar. Okay, Smite again. Next Bandit, oh hold on mana is low. (OOM) Melon Juice in my bag, let's drink it.

---------

The game got the vibe it had in Vanilla. Slow paced, not really taking you by the hand. A lot of running back and forth. The skill trees have so many choices at low level. Do I pick a healing spec right away or pick stuff that will help me "solo". The levelling experience is certainly there. (Endgame, I still have my doubts for, but that wasn't tested this weekend.)

More nerfs to Mythic Dazar'alor to help guilds fill the Mythic Raid Hall of Fame are in this week along with a new set of keystone affixes and the Pet Battle Bonus Event.
      Highlights
We have more nerfs to Mythic Battle of Dazar'alor that went live this week. We're not going to include this weekly world boss in our "This Week in WoW" posts going forward, because it drops low ilvl gear and is irrelevant at this point. Mythic Keystone Affixes

Pet Battle Bonus Event (May 21st - May 28th)
      Blizzard (Source)
Put your best battle pet teams to the test with this week’s event. To get in on the action, open your Pet Journal (Collections Shift+ P) and click the “Find Battle” button to be match up with an opponent with their own team of well-trained companions.
Look for the following all week long:
Chronicler Shoopa in Zuldazar or Chronicler Toopa in Boralus has a quest for you – The Very Best. Or, if you forget to pick it up there, you can start it within the Adventure Journal. Quest requirement: Win 5 pet battles versus other players with a team of three level-25 pets. Reward: One Ultimate Battle-Training Stone. Passive bonus: All Pet Battle experience gains are increased by +200% Every Week
The Bonus Events system consists of a rotating schedule of different activities, currently scheduled to run each week beginning on Tuesdays. Each Bonus Event grants a passive bonus to a particular game activity and offers a once-per-event quest with a noteworthy reward for accomplishing a related goal. The in-game calendar can serve as your one-stop reference for the event schedule. The Adventure Guide also offers a direct link to active Bonus Events, allowing you to easily accept any associated quests.

We have some hotfixes that address a bug in the Restless cabal fight today, as well as some live raid tuning for Battle of Dazar'alor, nerfing 2 encounters and making Jaina mercy kill you if everyone gets frozen.
      May 22 (Source)
We’re working on the following adjustments to raid encounters. These changes are not live yet, but will go live later this evening or tomorrow.
      Dungeons and Raids
Crucible of Storms The Restless Cabal Fixed a bug that caused Relics of Power to threaten some non-boss enemies. Battle of Dazar’alor Grong, the Jungle Lord Death Empowerment (Alliance) and Apetagonize (Horde) cast time increased to 5 seconds on Mythic difficulty (was 4 seconds). Death Specters (Alliance) and Apetagonizers (Horde) health reduced by 20% on Mythic difficulty. High Tinker Mekkatorque Gigavolt Charge’s radiation zone duration reduced to 2 minutes on Mythic difficulty (was 3 minutes). Tampering duration increased to 30 seconds on Mythic difficulty (was 25 seconds). Lady Jaina Proudmoore Jaina now kills all players instantly if the entire raid is frozen solid during an intermission phase. Developers’ note: Previously, if an entire raid was frozen solid, all players would have to wait until they each died before they could restart the encounter. This change will help raids quickly reset and start the fight again.

It seems we're getting one or more of these every day now, with players simply convinced that something is off with the Classic beta. Today's edition features Elite mob damage being too low and that Classic is a lot easier than Vanilla was. Here's Blizzard's reply:
      Elite Damage (source)
We tested this issue in our reference environment today.
First, we looked at a video from the WoW Classic Beta, where the player was tanking Rhahk’zor in Deadmines at level 20:
If you look at his portrait while he’s getting hit, you can see him receiving 65-83 damage from Rhahk’zor. The average hit is ~75.
We then recreated it in the WoW Classic Beta-- a level 20 human warrior with similar gear, with Defensive Stance, and with Mark of the Wild. Here’s what that looked like:

We then did the same thing in our 1.12 reference environment. There, the test looked like this:

Conclusion: the average damage taken is identical.

Recently there have been reports that absorbs no longer prevented the dazed effect while mounted on the PTR and some assumed it was due to mount equipment coming in the patch and that Blizzard did it on purpose to push that system. Today we found out that was not the case and it's just a bug.
      Daze on PTR (source)
This change was not intended. We’re investigating the issue and plan to fix it in the Rise of Azshara PTR as soon as possible. So, will this teach people to rather ask whether something is intended on PTR than immediately assume the worst possible motivation and decisions from Blizz? Probably not.
